I'll figure out what I want to do (and what will be approved!). I may ask for some wiring help when I determine which way to go. Thanks again!

I am checking out various GPS units. The boss is not going to approve a $500.00 unit. I don't care about the MP3 or XM on the Garmin. I already have both. There appear to be several in the $250-$300 range. I have two questions - First - how are you wiring these? Are you just using the lighter adpater or battery for power or are you hard wiring them? Secondly, if I'm going to be using a GPS it will most likely be riding two up with my wife. We will have communicator using the factory plug. We also have MP3 player coming through the speakers. How do you manage to hear voice prompts from your GPS? Can you tap in to the communicator line? Are these loud enough so that you can hear them anyway? Thanks for any help!

My wife and I have always enjoyed "getting lost". In four wheels or on two, we enjoy taking a road because we have never been on it. We're always disappointed when we realize at some point that we know where we are. Then we gotta try to get lost again. Several weeks ago we were on the RSV with a general route in mind. Most of the route would be in brand new areas to us. We keep a PA map with us just in case but rarely need to use it. Well, we got to a point where we didn't know town names or route numbers. We hadn't seen a gas station in many miles and we were getting low. We stopped at a little diner. There was a man in the parking lot when we parked. He says, "great day for a ride!". I said, "Sure is. Where are we?" He says, "You're right here!" I asked where the nearest gas station was and he says, "I think there's one down that way about five miles." We had a good lunch. Had some discussion with other people about where we might find some fuel (no one was real sure - odd). That was a great ride. We look forward to doing it again in the spring. Maybe we'll pick "South" next time.

Thanks all for the tips. I will hope that I don't need to use them for awhile. Happy Riding

Do you mean keep tires OFF concrete?

While I sure hope I have at least another 60 days of riding, at some point I must face the inevitable. This will be my first winter with my 07 RSV. With other bikes in the past I have done everything from gas stabalizer, to battery removal. I have left petcock on, I have turned it off. I have filled the tank and I have emptied the tank. I have also done nothing. Now I have a bike I want to make absolute certain lives for 100k+ miles. What do other Northerners do with their RSV iover the winter?

Good luck to you Dan. I'm confident you'll have 'er running in no time!

Happy to hear the good news Dan. Too bad the guy will probably take his "business" elsewhere. But sure glad to hear you are done with him.

I posted this on another thread but should put them here too. I met Dan and Gerald yesterday and helped them load the new ride. I'll let them fill you in on details. I think the seller was a Sonny Bono impersonator.

Just met a couple of fine folks from West By God Viginny. Attached are a couple of pics of the new ride. It looks like Dan is gonna ride 'er home! Good to meet you Dan and Gerald. Hope to see you again. Randy and Brenda

My wife said, "I don't care where you take me. We're going for a ride Saturday." So, we are about an hour north of Balto. Let me know when and where and you have some help. Cell is 717-891-2018 or shoot me an email. Hope to see y'all Saturday

I don't think I have anything on the Honey-do list. My wife and I would enjoy meetings some VR folks. Let us know a time and place. It will be a nice weekend.

More POWER to you! (pun intended!). I don't know, I'm very comfortable at "standard" highway speeds. Though, it's nice to know that I have the HP when I need it. On my '78 Yama 400 I had no problems full throttle. A little more conservative today.

Yeah, I remember when I was 21 and bulletproof! You guys are nuts! Either that, or I'm old.

Is anyone in Southern PA, Northern MD planning on attending Yokr Bike Night tonight? An estimated 2,000 bikes will be there. See: http://www.ydr.com/search/ci_7025525?IADID=Search-www.ydr.com-www.ydr.com for more info.

I like the law! I think the RSV usually trips the switch. I had problems with my Suzi and would need to run the light. There was one time I was at a light with heavy cross traffic but no car traffic my way. I got off the bike and went and hit the crosswalk button. One item I thought interesting in the proposed law: the motorcylclist needs to wait a minumum of three minutes. That's an eternity at a stop light. But I guess the cop would also have to wait three minutes to time you.

Here is a good start on lemon laws: http://autopedia.com/html/HotLinks_Lemon.html I hope this helps. Randy

My wife and I use the OEM headsets which, I believe is the same as J&M HS-BCD174. There is some noise but we don't think it is at a bothersome level. I also don't like the big box that hangs on the outside of the helmet with some of the other brands. You can run the RSV audio through the headset but we keep the music on the external speakers. In PA it is illegal to run music through the headset. You may want to check your state laws at http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp

Terry - I too traded up from a V Twin about six weeks ago. I now have about 2k miles on my RSV and love it. Today my wife and I put 175 miles on the bike. There's no way that would have happened on the ol' Suzi. I too came here looking for input. The people on this site are fantastic. Any questions or concerns you have can be answered here. Browse through some old posts. You will find lengthy discussions on the clutch basket whine (I was cursing it today - but will soon have it taken care of), final drive howl, tires, shocks, etc. This site and its members have a wealth of information. But anyway, to your question, we love our RSV but at 804 lbs dry it does take some getting used to at parking lot speeds. A video from www.ridelikeapro.com will help handle the heavyweights at the low speeds.

Anti Fog for Lexan Windshield
halfwitt replied to halfwitt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think I will order a bottle of Zoole and see how that goes. It doesn't specify Lexan but if you're putting it on your windhield, I'll trust you. Thanks! -
Anti Fog for Lexan Windshield
halfwitt replied to halfwitt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks John. Seems from the lack of response, there may not be any other solution. RainX is not recommended on Lexan. I do appreciate the input! Ride safe. Randy -
I'm getting caught up on some old posts and saw this interesting discussion. If I may add my thoughts... In any given situation, I try to think of where I am most vulnerable. In commercial areas with lots of driveways, I tend to ride right or center in my lane. I want to make sure that the cager who is trying to get out of a parking lot or driveway sees me and doesn't think he can jump out real quick in front of the car behind me. And to further support the obvious that Freebird stated, stay alert to your surroundings. The only time I have come close to a major accident on my bike was completely my fault. I was following a semi too close. This is my single biggest flaw driving four wheels or two. The truck locked up his brakes for some reason. I had to stop quick. I didn't think I would stop before I ran into the trailer and I wasn't too sure the car behind me would stop before he hit me. I went into the grass median and laid 'er down. The lesson: one one thousand...two one thousand... Thanks for this website Freebird.

I must learn what this "walk it up" theory is! I dropped my RSV in a very similar situation. I was coming out of a parking lot (with my wife on the back no less) the driveway was up hill, banked to the right for a right hand turn and I was turning left. I stopped at the top of the driveway and RSV started to fall to the right. The ground was eroded away on the right and there was no place to plant my foot. Down we went - fortunately on grass. It took three of us to stand the sucker back up. So - what is this "walk it up"?? Teach me wise one!
