Reading the humor forum reminded me of this... One year a couple years after we were married and with infant twins at home, my wife said, "Don't get me anything for Christmas. We don't really have extra money right now." Well, I can't not get her anything so I figured I would get her several small items. I picked up several trinkets. I don't remember anything I got for her except for one item. I went into Bath and Body Works and picked up one of those $5 bars of soap. She likes the bubble bath thing. I figured a $5 bar of soap must be pretty good! Well, Christmas Eve and we're opening presents. I see her set this little box aside. I immediately started to sweat. Sure enough she saves it for last. She opens it slowly. "SOAP????!!!!" I said, "Hey you didn't want me to get you ANYTHING." She says again, "SOAP????" Never lived that one down. I did tell her to never again tell me not to buy her something! What is the worst gift you ever gave/received?

I don't know any details about the transaction. Maybe the guy deserves to be flamed but maybe not. I need to tell a story about a guy who works for me. He is trying to sell his car. He had a guy that absolutely wanted to buy it and was going to come by last Friday to see the car. He turned away other prospective buyers because of this sure thing. The guy never showed up. The guy who works for me was (apparently) rightfully p***ed. He called the guy on Saturday and Sunday and couldn't reach him. He finally gets ahold of him on Monday and lets him have it. As it turns out the guys daughter was killed in a car accident on Friday. Before you judge - make sure you know what you're talking about!

My wife and I use the OEM J&M headsets on our 3/4 helmets. We've had no issues. Sound is very good. With the face shields up they are a little noisy but we can still hear reasonably well. We do not use them for music (illegal in PA and I try to be a law abiding guy!).

wpredock - Merry Christmas to you too. I have been a member here since August. I've only met a couple VR's in person but hope to improve that number next year. This site feels like family. But I can't add y'all to my Christmas list - sorry. Merry Christmas to all!

I spent a lot of time in Toronto a few years ago. By a lot, in 2001 I spent 100 nights at the Bloor St. Mariott. About half of that for each of 2000 and 2002. One thing that really impressed me about our neighbors to the north is that they seem to know more about the US and US politics than most Americans do. The vast majority of people I met and worked with in Toronto were very nice and cordial. I struck up good conversation with complete stangers. I did meet a few less-than-desireables but I think there are probably more jerks per capita in some parts of the US than there were in Toronto. That's my US$.02

Mine arrived but I don't know it yet since it is a Christmas present from my kids. Thanks Don!

Ever since we put in new carpeting about 5 years ago we have had a genuine Canadian Pine made in Japan. It's the purdiest artificial tree we have ever seen. We buy a new ornament every year. We try to find something that represents the past year. This year I have a HD Ultra ornament (closest thing we could find to a RSV). When the kids were little we would take them to the in-laws house about 100 mi away on Thanksgiving. They would stay there, we would go home, put up the tree and decorations and bring them home on Sunday. My father in-law lived with us the past few years. It was his favorite time of year. He made a lot of ornaments and decorations we have. He passed away New Year's Day '06. The past two Christmases we've had a hard time putting up decorations. Kids are 15 now (twins) so there is not the excitement that goes along with having little ones in the house. We try to focus more on the "Reason for the Season" now.

Don't let them paint such a rosy picture for you. There are some downsides...First on cold snowy or rainy days you really start to go through withdrawls. You will name your bike and talk about her like she's a real person (but why not, she's always there for you and just whines a little). You get addicted to this website. Just a few of the many problems you may have.

When I bought my 07 RSV in August, I received a one year membership to Star Touring. I have been all over their website and see absolutely nothing there that is worth paying annual dues for. I would rather make a donation here every year. There is no star touring chapter near me. I know I get unbiased opinions here. Not so sure about an "official" site. Does anyone have any good reason (aside from a cool pin) why one would want to pay a fee to be a member of Star Touring?

I am constrained by employment and two teenage kids so I have some limitations. I would gladly ride 100-150 miles for a M&E. That makes for a 200-300 mi RT day.

A lot of good information. Thank you to all who contributed their thoughts and experiences. The lesson I take away is that I should go on some group rides that OTHERs plan, organize and lead first. Then see what I can do on my own. For the ride I mapped, I think I'll look for 2-3 semi-local VRs and go in a small group. Thanks again. I look forward to riding in a group that one of you organizes!

That's scary news there Frogman. At least we have TV. Can you imagine what it must have been like for our parents when they were young. They would've had to listen to the RADIO when the Internet went down!

Don - A nice feature might be the ability to export the members list into Excel. That way a member could easily find all members in their area for M&E or group ride. Just a thought!

I don't think I would enjoy a large group as much as a group of half a dozen or so. But, like I said, I'm new to touring and group riding. We traded up from a Suzi Intruder which is not good for anything over 150 miles. My wife and I have been on many rides two up by ourselves. But I think it's time we get sociable!
