VRs are extremely rare in this part of the country. I only know of three rideable bikes within 50 miles of me. When I find one I try to jump on it. Thought I found something after talking to the seller on the phone. Jokes on me.

I drove a 100 miles to go pick up what was described as a super nice great running MKII today. I found a bike with broken and rashed plastic all over, running on three cylinders and not well on them. Wood screws and zip ties holding the body together. No fuse box with a rats nest of one color wire to replace it. Scary hospital wobble at 30 mph. 3000 rpm at wot. No service history. All for the great price of $2000. Was told I wasted sellers time for not loading it on my trailer. Guess I'm too picky.

You hit the nail on the head. It's just wrong. I believe that if both sides could get together and use all the effort and money spent fighting over the guns (pro and con) to get to the bottom of the real issue we could get somewhere. The weapons have always been here without issue, so why has the mentality of people changed? I have opinion on this but this is not the place to air them.

Two wrongs don't make a right................but three lefts does.

Well said Puc. Just this week down here in the South we had two prisoners overpower two guards, take their guns and kill them. They were caught by a homeowner while trying to steal his car. Proof that a good guy (homeowner) with a gun protecting his property stopped what could've been a long crime spree. Our country needs help to curb crime but it goes to show you our forefathers knew what they were doing. I have great respect for law enforcement but they can't be everywhere.

I use a 3/8 drive hex bit, smack it a couple times with a hammer before I turn the bolts. The shock helps break the bond between the steel bolt and aluminum case. Installed new starter clutch and drive clutch recently on my 86 with no issues on the bolts. Just a trick I learned years ago on car transmissions.
-
Can you drill the head of the bolt off? If so you could slip the cover off over it and have access to the bolt. When I can get to the shoulder of a broken bolt I slip a nut over it and weld it. Between the heat and being able to get a socket on it, it may back out. A few hits with a hammer also helps break steel threads out of aluminum.

1-start the vinegar method. 2- Jump on bike and come to our ride this weekend. 3- Hit every ride/meet n eat you can find in the next couple weeks. 4-Go to Freebird's m day. Maybe it'll be better when you get home. In all reality good luck. I have no idea how to fix it but it's gotta be rough.

I think I've caused myself a problem
RDawson replied to Stache's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I replaced my battery this week from the same symptoms. It shorted inside the battery. It read 12.6 on a volt meter but dropped to less than 1 volt anytime I would put a load on it. Like you everything powered up until I hit the starter, I heard it go sounded like a fuse burning out. Try load testing it. -
And with a healthy 1st gen owner's loyalty discount right?

Steering lock and parking lights.

I can't find a thread on it. It'll be awhile before I can get to it. Once I do I'll do a write up if it's warranted. -
Steering lock and parking lights.

I have both clicks but steering only locks on the last one. I'm gonna have to take it apart to see why. -

I guess I need to do some digging. Mine will only lock in that position. I've never pulled the ignition to check it. -

Congrats. You don't hear 50 years much anymore. We were just talking today at the firehouse that at 23 years I have the second longest marriage in the dept. Nobody wants to work that hard anymore.

We just had a local take a buzzard to the visor. It knocked him out and laid it down. Luckily no serious injuries. Be careful out there. I once took a quail in the face and ended up with a broken nose, can't imagine a buzzard. Oh the buzzard was declared dead at the scene according to local news.

I would like to invite everyone to our first MPFA charity ride. The MPFA is a non profit organization to assist injured or sick firefighters and their families and other children's charities. We were looking at hosting the ride in the fall but have ratcheted up the date due to need. For example just in our department of 36 firefighters we've had firefighters off work for months at a time recently: a back surgery with complications, a child with a deadly blood disease (cured with marrow transplant), a child with a brain tumor that resulted in a stroke and blindness, and just last week one of our guys got a heart transplant. Kevin had to quit working due to needing the heart, he and his wife have 3 young children, a home and all the bills we all have. In addition he has to stay near the hospital for the next several months resulting in renting another place to live there. We have planned a 200 mile ride that will take in a Harley dealership, the Sweet Water saloon, Cave in Rock state park and the cave itself, Land between the Lakes national wildlife refuge (north end), and more. In addition to the all day ride on Saturday anyone that wants to come in early we'll take a Friday afternoon informal ride, we can visit and tour Hannigan Motorsports trike shop, stop at Fort Donelson state park (civil war battle ground), eat some catfish, and hit the southern end of Land Between the Lakes. You'll see Paris Tn home of the worlds largest fish fry, Ky Lake one of the leading bass fishing lakes in the country, and some beautiful country. We are also looking into an informal Sunday ride back into Southern IL to Garden of the Gods state park. May weather here is usually in the 70s with little rain. We are working with local hotels to secure discounted rooms at this time. The ride will take place Saturday May 20th in Murray KY. Registration will be available early next week but I wanted to start getting the word out because of the short notice. Come ride with us, see some beautiful country, and help support the Murray Professional Firefighters Association. Welcome to my 10th story corner office Thank you Ronnie Dawson, LT with Murray Fire Dept, VR MKII rider.

It really looks good in the pic. I get what you mean with the itch, I keep thinking the same thing until I test ride something and get back on mine. I haven't found anything that compares. Maybe one of these days I can get it looking like yours.
-
SilverT they do look a lot alike but I can see in your pic yours was taken care of better. Mine was rode hard and put up wet by previous owner. It's been down, bought and rebuilt by a Honda dealer of all people. Engine cases could really use some help from staining and oxidation and the right side dash panels are pretty rough. I bought it several years ago from Wilf over at Hannigans just for a rider. Since I can't find anything I like better I'm slowly trying to restore it before I retire in 4-1/2 years. Only 42k on the clock. Dave Hannigan had one in his collection I was pestering him to sell for months before I got this one.

The 86 VR is back on the road after a 1 1/2 year hiatus. I just want to say thanks to snyper316 for the tech help on the TCI issue. Skydoc's clutch mod gives it a great grab, almost too good test driving it on a wet road. Second and third gear got a little squirrely. Countless other member posts have helped me to keep her on the road. I hope to make it to one of the get togethers this year and meet some of the group if I can keep too much work from getting in the way.
