Is the key worn? I've seen a worn out key not work well. A good locksmith can make a new key to fit if that's the case.

Season tire number 5 - going with Balancing Beads this time!!
RDawson replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I've run beads thru several tires with good luck. However riding 2 up I would always feel a lot of vibration through the helmet near triple digits. Finally figured out it was coming from the back seat not the tires, that's how those hand prints always appeared on the back of my clean helmet. -
Spooning tires?
RDawson replied to s.tyler58's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
How many remember seating a tire with ether? Had a front today that wouldn't seal. Got tired of fighting it and used carb cleaner instead of ether, it's less volatile. 3 seconds to seal it after fighting it for an hour. Rear aired right up without a fight. -
I've got an 86-93 hard copy. I'll probably let it go as soon as I get my new to me 07 on the road. $2000 and I'll throw in an 86 Royale ready to ride:Laugh:

Freebird's 2nd gen center stand bracket.
RDawson replied to RDawson's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is no cost. Most of this is scrap material left over from some of my projects. Even though Freebird gave me permission to sell these at profit, I'm not one that's willing to profit from somebody else's work. I have a hydraulic iron worker and a press brake in my shop so I can whip these parts out pretty quickly. As I said it's just my way of saying thanks for the help I've gotten here. It'll be a limited run I do for now as its my busy time of year. -
Very possible, it was pushed back in the corner of the showroom. I never spent much time in the showroom anyway. I don't know if you met Randy, the guy that was designing their new bodies and building the molds, when you were there. He is my older brother and I used to stop in and talk to him now and then before he left them.

I live an hour away from Metropolis, IL. Huge Superman festival there every year. I've never gone to one but I'd go to Sturgis if I could get away just to watch Puc in the suit.

Freebird's 2nd gen center stand bracket.
RDawson replied to RDawson's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I hope to have my bike back together next week. Once I do that I need to remove my stand to sandblast and paint it. I'll punch out a few copies then. -

Thank you. I didn't know if there was any other way to lower them, shorter springs etc. looks like all I have to do is replace the rear links and caliper bracket.
-
Can anyone tell me a measurement of the front forks on a 2nd gen to see if it's been lowered, or how much? I tore it down to replace tires and go through rear end, swing arm, etc. Once I started I realized the rear had a lowering kit on it, took that off and going tomorrow to get a new caliper bracket to raise it back up with new links. It's up in the air without tires on it now. I'm going back with leveling links and need to make sure where the front end is (besides in front of the rear end). That being said I'll have a few parts on the classifieds soon: Baron (I think) lowering kit with 7-1/4" links, slip on mufflers (too loud for my taste), shorty tinted windshield, maybe more. Going back stock. 07 RSV:mo money:

I just purchased an 07 RSV and quickly figured out I want the center stand. I searched through and found Freebird's mount to use a 1st gen stand. Since he doesn't make them anymore the measurements are posted to make your own. I contacted Don with a question and asked his blessing before I made this offer. I'm guessing there others like me wanting a stand and not all have access to the tools to make it. So with Don's blessing (what a leader) I will punch out a few extras for members only. Shipping n handling in the US I'm guessing around $10, Canada a little more. Just my way of trying to repay the help I've received here. You'll need a 1st gen stand and the bolts from the donor bike and the spring to hold it up. These will be raw steel, not welded or painted due to the differences between mounting tabs on some 2nd gens being bent. Be sure to thank Don for allowing us to use his design.

I don't know about Toyota but with some GMs you need to plug a small battery into the aux plug before unhooking the battery cables. It's anti theft for the audio system. Cost my brother $50 at a dealer to reset it after a battery install. Once there's no voltage at the radio it locks out.

Going in for new shoes, carb synch, fluids changes tomorrow. Pics coming soon.

Metzeler tires not on a Venture. Just a story.....
RDawson replied to The Tooch's topic in Watering Hole
You're right on the front, I had to go with the 880 too. Not sure how many more miles I'll put on that scoot, I just picked up an 07 RSV today. Thinking of going with the triple 8s on it too. With the leg room on the RSV I may sell the MKII. My long legs don't like the control location on it. Then again maybe not, I'll miss the peg dragging fun on it. -

I let a local dealer talk me into Metzler 888s before I looked here. I've gotten around 3500 miles so far mixed riding. Solo, two up, 80-90 mph interstate and local curves, I can't see any wear so far. Recently ran 125 miles on a rainy interstate 80-85mph stuck like glue. I'm happy so far. Hope they hold up. -
The answer is YES. So much so I'm going this weekend to try to pick up an 07 RSV. I'll have to move out a parts bike to get it inside.

Had a kid trying to mess with me red light to red light on a rice rocket this week, I ignored home first few lights. We stopped at the last light on the edge of town, I pulled him up through third before blue lights came on behind us. Oops. He used a lot of words describing the VR but anemic wasn't one of them. Trooper was laughing at him so hard for trailing a tourer he just said slow down and got back in his car. Neither one of them could believe It was bone stock.

Not sure what I'm missing here, I thought we always needed another Venture. No such thing as too many. Just don't tell my wife please.

If it's Allen head I put an Allen socket on it and hit it straight in a couple raps before trying to loosen it. That shock usually breaks the bond of steel bolts in aluminum cases. Then turn them out with a ratchet. I'm talking good smart raps with a small hammer, not a sledge or something big enough to break cases.. If Phillips I use a flat punch and do the same thing before I ever put a screwdriver on them. Most back out without having to use an impact driver after that. An old transmission rebuilder taught me that probably 30 years ago.

I'm with you on that. I could tell by the pictures that it had a few add ons like lighting and trunk rack. It looked pretty well stock other than that. On the phone it was described as super nice, gotta see it-you'll love it, runs great, lots of power, etc. Giving him benefit of the doubt I didn't expect to see my dream bike but at least no major issues. Could've handled minor scratches or blemishes but found what I described. I know no dealer is going to take that job on to put in $2-3000 in a bike that won't bring $1000 with that body on it. They never get paid on those jobs n can't sell the bike for enough to break even. I just hate wasting time like that.
-
I offered $400, Only because I liked the seat. His response was he'd rather take it to the dealer and have them to fix it and keep it. I'd love to be there when he asks them to go through it.
-
I would've been satisfied with a little less than that but: both fairings rashed side panels screwed on and zip tied lights not working running on 3 side stand light on bad tires oil leak twinkie leak valves never adjusted fuse box wiring a mess trunk broken lots of rusty screw heads etc E4 error on class, no compressor running starter clutch sounds like gravel thats just a 15 minute going over. Had a good windshield, saddle bags, seat, and battery for the money though.

Im not really looking for one, mine has less than 50k on the clock but I'll jump on one close by just for kicks. Never hurts to have a spare. This is just the third or fourth time I've wasted half a day looking at junk. The last one they told me had sat outside without the air box cover on it until it seized. But since it broke loose and started it must be ok right? That's after I drove 3 hours to see it. I left that one too. I just don't know why they never caught on in this region. Even the one I have I bought from a Canadian that comes here to visit Hannigans trike shop. I bought it just before they started to trike it.
