A lot of good answers here. I wish there was one flat answer but it's going to boil down to the opinion of the officers investigating the call. Like many said there may be legal costs and headaches if you are forced to shoot, but that beats the alternative. While I have the CCW I rarely carry as I live in an area that I just don't feel the need. I think the fact that most houses here have guns makes people think twice about doing something stupid. I do know of a few cases where shooters were not charged with anything because it was pretty clear they shot in self defense. I have many people in my family from law enforcement and I work around many more regularly, most all officers I know fully support CCW because they realize better than most how slow a response time can sometimes be if they're tied up on another call. That's even assuming you have time to call them. A lot of times we only have two deputies patrolling our whole county at a time, they may 20 minutes away from a call or more. To me everyone needs to be equipped to safeguard their family and let the police do their job when they arrive. I am very thankful that I don't feel that I need to worry about it much here but fully realize many live in areas that needing a weapon is a reality every day.

Reminds me of Marcarl and his story of telling the border control he was coming to meet his motorcycle gang.

Cold Air Intake

The right sized nut welded on a rod makes a great Allen wrench if you can't find one. -
24 years in and I'm not sure I've figured it out yet.

You're in the right place for all the help in the world. I am still a rookie compared to a lot of the guys on here, but learning. Just a little background on what I am was talking about, my first Venture is an 86 that had been setting for a couple of years and trying to tune it in was making me pull my hair out. I had the air box open and watching the carbs while working on it. They were popping and back firing like nobody's business. I gave up and closed it up for the night to keep critters out, came out the next day and fired it up to hear the sweetest running engine I could ask for. That was long before I found this group, $12 a year has saved me a fortune in time and parts not to mention the enjoyment of keeping up on here. I'm not gonna say you can't ram more air in there but rejetting the carbs and matching the exhaust to breathe that air will be a challenge. I bet somebody on here has tried it and hopefully they'll jump in and share the experience. There have been posts about some drilling holes in the air boxes for more air only to have to seal them back up. I always like more ponies too but have come to the conclusion its got all I need. You might check out the V Max conversion some have done to gain a little power and then changing the gearing in the tranny to put the power on the road a little better. It's very interesting to me but at my age I don't need the temptation to ride like that, I have a weak level of self control anyway. I was trying to interject a little humor with the NO.NO.NO, please don't take offense to that since humor doesn't show up well in printed word. -

NO. NO. NO. Don't do it. These carbs are very finicky when it comes to airflow. Just take the top off your airbox and you'll see what I mean. They need the restriction of the air box. -
Funny to see this just now. I just got off the phone with Bill Leslie one of my best friends. Those in the competition circuits will know the name. Bill is a long bow shooter that was captain of the USA team that won the world title back in the 90s (I think 90s) in France. He holds many national and world titles. He helped coach my daughter for the archery in schools program. I have a couple compound hunting bows but haven't shot in years, watching him shoot puts me to shame.

I'm sure it'll be better with time but starting the bike to ride away and leave her was the hardest thing I've ever done. Mom and lil sister are staying the night to help unpack. She's got big things coming in her future.

I'm lucky on the boyfriend front. She's got a good one.

We were married a month to the day when the wife went to the dr sick. Turns out it was morning sickness. We've taken exactly 4 trips: two weekenders and two week long trips without the kids in 23 years. Two of those this year, one to MD. I don't know if we know how to be married without kids hanging around. I've had more fun wagging them all over the country than I deserve. Our lives have revolved around those girls and we've loved every minute of it. I'll probably drive the 16yo nuts now since I only have a couple years to do it.

Got the oldest daughter loaded up to move off for medical school and the RSV for the ride home. We're supposed to guide them to adulthood and teach them to be an asset to society and turn them loose on the world. I'm proud of what she's accomplished and where she's headed, but dang it she's always been a daddy's girl. The other one only has two years of high school left and she plans to move off to be an engineer. Don't have a clue how to be an empty nester but it's around the corner. Awful proud of both of them but I'm just not ready to let em go. My parents went through it 7 times but we all still live within a 20 minute drive of where we grew up.

I'm with Don on this one, love old wood guns. Where I live a 200yd shot is not often an option. I like hunting the deep woods and my favorite rifle for that is my old Marlin 44 mag. I got it used 30 years ago, it's been bumped and scratched and generally abused as my first choice of shooters. With a safe full of nice guns it's always the first one I reach for. It's fed the family truckloads of deer over the years.

Or how old was the gas brought to you on the side of the road?

Asking for tire recommendations is almost like opening the what kind of oil can of worms. :confused24: Some really like the Shinko 777, some the Dunlop Elite III, I am using the Michelin Commander IIs. I didn't like the Shinko wear, that being said I have some weird affliction in my right hand that seems to crank the throttle in the curves and take offs. That seems to shorten tire life. Haven't tried the Dunlops, but really like the mileage I seem to be getting on the Michelin. I've only got about 2k on it and don't see much wear at all yet. Welcome by the way. It'll be the best $12 you can spend on a Venture. If there's a problem on a Venture it's been discussed here and the fix found. :sign16:

Lost the tip of one into the bone working on a fire truck. The good news it doesn't take long to be able to use it as long as you're careful. Take care of it and good luck on the healing.

Not a great pic but all I've got. There are 3 diamond shaped holes it pins into for front-back adjustments. -

You need the brackets. They mount in place of the helmet locks and the end bolt of the passenger grab bar. The locks then mount on tabs on the bracket. Just pulled one from my parts bike that Luv my 40 is interested in. Irony is that rest is why I bought the parts bike but it doesn't fit the MKII. -
Swingarm Pivot bolt...
RDawson replied to Hartebreak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ah I didn't realize the frame was threaded. Most good hardware stores here have a size/thread gauge if you take a bolt. -
Swingarm Pivot bolt...
RDawson replied to Hartebreak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you're replacing it anyway the thread pitch shouldn't matter. Find the right shaft size and get a lock nut to fit. I'd go with a hardened bolt. -
I gave $4000 last year for same bike. Needed tires and battery with 31,000 miles and thought I got a good deal. Mostly stock, had a few extra lights and K&N filters. And you know blue is fastest right?
