Glad to see you mention the tech issues. I thought the same thing reading about it then. I left it alone because some took offense to anything said against the new bike. Glad they fixed it. While I like the looks of it I just overall have no interest in them right now. That being said I hope it's a great bike for those that do buy them. I'm old school enough that I expect customer service from whoever sells you any product. That is a big factor when I make large purchases. Too many times one dealer can turn many people away from a good 😊 product with bad service. Failure to replace defective rotors on a 6 month old truck by a local dealer under warranty cost GM a new car sale from me this year. Yes I let the dealer know why I bought my first ever non GM new car.

Glad to hear they stepped up for you Chief, I hope they do the same here. Two months is unreasonable to me. That's what I miss since Oldsmobile folded, I bought a new Cutlass that had two big issues within two weeks of delivery, they delivered another new car to my door and picked up the original. 170,000 miles on that one with no issues. I understand issues pop up with new technology but a manufacturer needs plans in place to keep customers.

The dog is still there but not chasing today. Maybe learned something? Animal control notified. Good news is X-ray shows nothing broken or out of place-bad news is I now have an appt for osteoarthritis. Knew my joints weren't great but had no idea of the arthritis. Depending on severity osteoarthritis is Latin for career killer for ladder guys like me. I liked it better when I didn't know, ignorance is bliss right?

This one usually runs to the side of the road and barks. Last night he ran right into the side of the bike and my leg. I usually don't react at all to him. I had no idea he was on me until my leg folded. After dark and he's black.

Good idea but mailboxes on the wrong side of the road. Think I'm gonna call animal control. Still not sure if I'm hurt or not, sore leg and hip. Probably just just slight pulls up the leg and hip. Bike still has some small scuffs, most cleaned off with pledge.

Neighborhood dog likes to chase cars and motorcycles, tonight he caught mine. His head/body caught my left leg just at the top of my boot and knocked it back into the wife's foot. My leg is black and swelling pretty fast, hoping nothing broken. Pretty sure his head hit solid on my shin. Wife has a good bruise on her foot. Left a big scuff on the saddlebag. Don't know status of the dog. I'll get a better look at the bike tomorrow to see if there's any damage beyond a scuff.

Honest Opinions About the 3rd Gen
RDawson replied to grubsie's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
The 3rd gen reminds me of Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR, fans either loved or hated him with no middle ground. If you ride one let us know how it compares to the 2nd gen in your opinion. It's not the bike for me but hey I was an Earnhardt fan. I've had two very short talks with SVTC owners that absolutely loved them. Too much tech for me and I like the 4 cylinder. I'm always slow to accept new things, old dog/new tricks mindset. I may come to like them later, but until then the RSV is my bike of choice. -
Wall Drug in Wall S.D... The tourist trap of tourist traps,,, or is it?
RDawson replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I've not made it out to that area yet, plan to in retirement in the next few years. Now Puc you've gone and changed an old favorite song of mine, I'll laugh every time I hear it now. I listen to a classic country station here that plays it and most of the songs you link on here pretty regularly. -
St. Judes donation on behalf of Venturiders and WNY rally...
RDawson replied to BIG TOM's topic in Watering Hole
I can't make rallies this time of year but my hats off to those who donated. I have a 12 y/o niece diagnosed with leukemia at 2. St. Jude's cured her. My daughter and I ran the 5k race once and then she ran the half marathon raising money for them, then in college she spearheaded a huge fundraiser. I urge everyone to visit that campus once, it will influence your thinking and outlook on life. -
Pinch bolts missing or loose
RDawson replied to mrclean78's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Gotta give it to those Harley shop guys, they know loose bolts. Glad you found it before something bad happened. -
Tall guy problems...
RDawson replied to tallmanskuban's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You've got me by a few inches but going to a 2nd gen made all the difference for me. I've done 850 miles days on it, my knees wouldn't go over 300-350 a day on the 86. I like the 86 locally but not all day. -
Happy belated birthday.

How long since an oil change? Old oil causes the same symptoms.

1989 Gas MPG
RDawson replied to uhfradarwill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I was butt numb and tired when I figured that, I used odometer miles instead of actual. Actual miles showed 35.88 mpg. I kept the cruise at 78-80 using gps speeds. I always get my best mileage 2up, guess I play too much when alone and bored. -
1989 Gas MPG
RDawson replied to uhfradarwill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bone stock 07 RSV riding 2 up with about 425 lb of riders and gear we got 38 mpg running 78-80 today. I haven't touched the enrichment screws either. Got in 308 miles this evening going for supper. -
Wife wanted me to knock off early and take her to supper on the bike. I put her on the lift(bike not wife) and checked tires and oil to take off. I got the age old answer to the where you wanna go, I don't care something different. Sooo 6 hrs and 308 miles later we got home. Went to Evansville Indiana and got a belly full of Mongolian food. That'll teach her to say I don't care........ who am I kidding I'll get the same answer tomorrow.

2000 RSV AIS removal
RDawson replied to Papa Fred's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are instructions in the read only 2nd gen tech library. -
Skipped the math and made the leveling links. The bike handles well from parking lots to triple digits on the interstate. I would've tried it no matter what the math said, dog bones are too easiy made from scrap steel in the shop to not try it. I haven't ridden an RSV at factory height to compare but since it aint broke I aint fixin it, I'm riding it.
-
I bought it with a lowering kit on it. I am long legged and didn't like the ride, after reading many talking about lowering the front for low speed handling I followed Freebird's idea of leveling links to raise the rear up. Love it. I don't normally ride aggressive enough to drag the boards but have done it. We were in the mountains last spring and after what seemed like the hundredth curve with a 25 mph sign we found one that MEANT 25 mph. She let me know real quick she heard the board drag.
-
I have leveling links raising my 07 up an inch and have drug in unexpectedly sharp curves. The wife lets me know when she hears it that I need to slow down. It's not the ride height it's the aggressiveness of the rider.
