Some of the Garmin GPS units have a mic in and mic out on the back. Paired with a Buddy Rich or Edsets cable it ties your phone to the bikes audio. You can then talk on the phone through the helmet mic. I'm looking into a way to do it without the gps. I want to put it inside the fairing and do away with the GPS

I'm with you on that. My 86 is going up for sale in the spring. As much as I like the power and handling it's just not as comfortable to us as the 07.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I've been talking to an electronics guy here about making a board to replace the Garmin Bluetooth interface for the 2nd gen. I don't use the Garmin for directions, only to tie the phone into the system. With the Garmin, Buddy Rich cable, and a Bluetooth receiver installed I can stream music, use the gps on the phone, and make/take phone calls on the bikes system. I'd like to do away with the Garmin to de-clutter the bars. He says he can make them but I'll have to buy at least 5 boards to get the manufacturer to make them. It may get expensive, I may go ahead in hopes to sell some unless we can come up with a different idea.

Congratulations. It's been a much talked about topic around here lately. I have to do another 1-1/2 years while the wife can retire this spring. We both planned to work longer but with the state retirement not being in great shape we may take what we can get and run. We've invested a lot of our lives and money in the retirement system only to find out the government used our money instead of raising taxes and just about broke the system.

53 and sunny/cloudy mix. Wife got the itch so we got the 2nd gen out and put in 150 miles. Went through Land Between the Lakes national park, watched some buffalo, and rode around Fort Donelson civil war park. Pretty good afternoon.

I plan to do all that with a valve shimming, steering head bearings, swing arm bearings, and wheel bearings. Getting ready to order parts from Skydoc now. Don't forget carb synch. Will probably look at fuel pump points while I'm at it.

I looked but didn't find it.

Thanks, she was upset but is fine. We bought it new last year and she really likes it so that got to her. State Farm took 30 minutes to arrange the tow, schedule the body shop, and have the rental reserved. I have a $500 deductible so that's all it'll cost us. I'm pretty tickled the damage is as light as it is, she must've got on the brakes quick. I preach to to her and the kids to hit a deer instead of trying to dodge it and crashing worse, she did it. Our roads here have no shoulders, once you drop off the asphalt it's in the ditch. I've worked way too many bad wrecks with serious injuries or worse from trying to miss deer so as bad as it is I'm happy with the outcome.

There's not a lot of real damage. It pushed the front of the hood in, cracked the bumper, broke a fog light, put a small dent in the front of a fender, and poked a hole in the oil cooler. Structurally I saw nothing wrong, insurance already has me a rental and the car is at the shop. Actually it was a pretty light hit for a deer collision. I bought the car a year ago this week after an F250 hit her and totaled her Equinox. I live in a small town that was known for years as the used car capital of the country, so the body shops are above average and can do great work.

Well my daughter and I tried to do our part and put 6 in the freezer. Problem is we didn't do well enough, wife got number 7 with the new Jeep this morning. Hood, bumper, light, fender, and busted the oil cooler. Who knows the hidden plastic parts broken. :bawling:

We're right on the Tennessee border so we just get their residents coming here to buy untaxed groceries, for some reason they are special and don't feel the need to follow our "keep right except to pass" laws. The fly on the 2 lane near the border, jump in the left lane as soon as it widens out and slow down. Some days it's like driving in Florida. Like Jeff Foxworthy said "it should be legal to get under them, get them loose, and put them in the wall".

Worst part of this plan to completely service the bike in one go is that we usually get enough warm weather here that I can ride a few days each month through the winter. That means a big tear down will cost riding days whenever I do it. I hope to get all the parts here before I start it so it can go back together quick. You guys that work all winter on our bike to ride a few months of the year don't know what you're missing. I got a couple hundred miles in last week, and will probably get that many more tomorrow. Winterizing a bike here means you put on a sweat shirt under the leathers. That plus we don't have to deal with the snowbirds heading south each winter, even though we can ride a few hours south to be warm.

I took the RKs off when I got it and went back to stock. Don't like my bikes louder than my radio. All lubed up.

Well dang, I just saw Skydoc's video and guess I need to order that blinker fluid too. Do you think he'll discount shipping if I order it with the new valve job gaskets?

Well since I am now more informed than ever I'm afraid of bringing up the missing class controller checks. Should I go ahead and change the tires over to winter air while I'm at it? Where do I check the windshield washer fluid level?:rasberry:

See I knew somebody would catch what I wasn't thinking about on the parts order. However since the RSV speedo is electronic I think I'll skip that. thanks for the input.

After 25 degrees last week and a glancing blow from the Fool the week before we now are looking at temps in the 60s. I plan to load the pillion Sunday and make one more run for the year. Once that's over I'm going to put her on the lift (bike not pillion) and start a tear down. I bought the bike a year ago and don't know the maintenance record of the last owner. The first owner was diligent and put most of the miles on, I put on about 14,000 this year and the clocks showing 44k. Valve shims are first, new wheel bearings, brakes, pack neck and swing arm bearings, all fluids again, MAYBE a dark side rear tire, plugs, and carb synchronize for sure. I updated all the electronics to my liking already, and added the clutch spring kit from Skydoc last spring. Ignition bypass added also. Shock and forks seem fine so probably nothing there besides fork oil change. I've looked at the list of known issues and believe I have it pretty well covered. What am I missing on the list? Really thinking of fuel pump points as preventive maintenance. In the past I've been more of an oil change and tires kind of guy fixing everything else as it comes up, really want to stay ahead of the game on this one as I plan on keeping it into retirement. Best bike I've ever had IMO. Last year: fluids, tires, front brakes, battery, bad boy horn, ign bypass, Buddy Rich splitter, Garmin gps, Bluetooth receiver hardwired, amplirider, mic mutes, removed cassette and installed charger plug with USB ports, clutch kit. Sure I'm forgetting something.

Spammers and robocallers deserve the death penalty.

I used one from eBay for around $20 and wired in the same way you are. I stream pandora all the time on it, works great. I ended up running a new hot wire from the battery later to run more items I installed in the fairing and used the aux plug to fire a relay to power all the extras in there. Good luck.

I just saw this video about trailer dynamics and tongue weight. It does a pretty good job of showing the importance of proper loading. It doesn't really show tongue length and axle location differences though.
