  1. Unfortunately I know all about the fix, it's the 3rd on in this truck and I've fixed a few for friends. I really think the PO of this truck waited way to long to change them the first time and maybe damaged threads. The plugs in it now were well torqued and still an issue. Ford screwed the pooch on this design not putting enough threads in an aluminum head making it too easy for this to happen. I've owned a few Fords over the years and this will be the last, I've had too many problems with their designs. I'll deal with Chevy rust anytime, rust won't leave me stranded unless it's in a gas tank.
  2. Got out yesterday to go to dr appt in the Old F250 since the Chevy was hooked to a trailer loaded with my tractor and equipment, blew a spark plug. Have I ever mentioned how I dislike Ford? Short on time meant jumping on the RSV and heading out in light rain. Not liking what doc said (not serious but still not liking it) I took off out of town headed for nowhere. A few hours, three storm cells, and 175 miles later I made it home with a dirty water spotted Venture.
  3. Found a 5500 mile 06 Midnight for sale near me $4000. Garage kept with a passing light bar, spoiler, and trunk rack. Maybe more but that's all I see in pics. Looks dusty in pics but supposed to be mint. I'm not in the market but had to pass it along. Pic shows it with lights on so I ASSUME running. Oh the antennas are backwards. Be glad to look at it for somebody interested.
  4. No more miles than you're showing I'd run the stickiest I could get. Wear doesn't look like it'll be an issue so much as age. I changed to the darkside because I was buying 2 tires a year, mostly because I can't seem to control the throttle on launch as I should not due to super high mileage.
  5. First suggestion is that bike needs ridden more. I have the HF bike jack that works well for me with the adapter Carbon One makes. I built my own but everybody brags on his.
  6. Love that blue bike. My 2nd gen is blue/black and my 86 says blue on the title but was painted black before I got it.
  7. It's engine oil. Check your sightglass and top off as needed. 1/2 way up the glass with the bike standing straight up.
  8. Wow, I hate to hear that. Listen to the doctors and take your time getting going again. While I've had a fairly serious back injury it was nowhere near what you're going through, I've never had pain that rivals a back injury. :fingers crossed:For a full recovery.

  10. I did a similar install on the BT. I also added a splitter cable in to tie my phone to the gps and an amplirider along with replacing the cassette with a charge port that has a lighter plug and two USB ports. If you're only adding BT you can pull from the plug as mentioned, since I installed more I ran a hot wire from the battery and used power from the original plug to fire a relay on the new power wire. The BT I used from ebay had a 3.5mm plug on it so I didn't need the rca adapters. I just wish I'd done it all at once instead of pulling the fairing multiple times. With all that and adding Mic-Mutes I think I could split the fairing with my eyes closed.
  11. Update on the Nexen. I've put around 600 miles on it solo and the wife got on today for the first time with the ct. The only time I notice the difference is shifting in a slow speed turn. Leaving a stop and turning it tries to stand up if I shift mid turn, if I hold off the shift until after the turn it feels fine. I've run twisties, wet roads, interstates up to around 90 mph without issue. Wet road traction has been great. After the first 20 miles the wife commented that it's a much smoother ride now. I got in 175 miles with 50 of that 2 up at 39.4 mpg today. The only issues were shortage of daylight and the sunburned arms I got before I picked her up. If the storms hold off tomorrow I may take the trailer on it's maiden voyage.
  12. Starting another thread not to muddle Don's new rider thread. A friend that hasn't ridden in many years bought a 600 Shadow without a test ride. It had tall risers and ape hangers and he's about 5'6" or so with short legs. Once I moved the bars and adjusted everything I could for him the factory forward controls are a stretch. With the side mount exhaust moving the controls back isn't much of an option. His former smaller bikes from the past were all midship controls and he's not comfortable stretched out. Besides the Virago what's out there with a low seat and midships? I looked at the VStar 650, can those controls be moved rearward without reinventing the wheel? He won't be touring, just riding an hour or two at a time.
  13. I got rid of my rear growl with Mic-Mutes. I would definitely stay with gear lube and just for peace of mind I'd open up the final drive and check damage. A few shavings in the bearings could sure mess up a ride.
  14. We'll have to compare notes at MD. The wife and I are doing that trip in reverse and heading to Niagara after we leave Don's.
  15. :sign yeah that:
  16. Hey Boss I was looking over the assistance list and noticed a few members on the list that have passed. I would feel terrible to call a number listed and ask for a member to find that he was gone. I may be overthinking it but would hate to upset a widow or child. I hate to add to your never ending attention to the site but just a thought.
  17. I'm 7 weeks post surgery. Most of the damage was in the labrum and a cyst had formed on the nerve. It really hasn't been as bad as I'd heard. Therapy twice a week plus working at home. Therapy isn't much fun but I'm healing. I have been on the bike once for 75 miles, not a wise choice. Now I'm working toward being ready to make Freebird's in June.
  18. Sounds like California tries to make things hard. Our CCW is just that, any gun you own, brass knuckles, switch blades, you name it. The person is licensed not the weapon. I usually ankle carry a snub 357 or shoulder rig a 380 or 9mm on the bike. I work around too much moving equipment to wear cargo pants or loose clothes, my shop is full of those machines you see sucking in people in the movies. It does happen and I'm too attached to my body parts to wear loose stuff.
  19. Yes that's normal. Anytime the side stand is down in gear it kills the engine. It keeps you from taking off with the stand down. That's how I usually kill it when parking, pull up and kick the stand down and then turn off the key.
  20. Down south too. 78* and sunny today. Dr says no riding yet, physical therapist says no riding, wife -no riding. So while I was alone today I didn't run my errands, I didn't go to the next town over, and I didn't detour down by the lake. Therefore I didn't put 75 miles on the bike and there are no pics to prove it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Wonder why my shoulder is a little sore...........:cool10:
  21. Just keep that torch away from the carb screws. Bad things happen when it goes boom :225: :rotfl:
  22. Like every other bolt on a bike the steel bolts like to bond into aluminum. What I've found to work the best is to use the socket type Allen wrenches and once seated in the bolt give it a few light raps with a hammer. The shock and vibration breaks that bond and they back right out. The key here is to look at where you're hammering and not get crazy with it to the point of cracking aluminum. I've done it on auto transmissions and bikes for years, works real well on those Phillips screws too. I took a carb apart recently on a Honda Shadow that somebody had the screws half stripped, hit em with a flat punch and backed em right out. The owner had already given up getting it apart and was ready to order a carb. Had carb cleaned and him riding within an hour.
  23. Welcome to the forum. You have a Royal Star Venture or as called here a 2nd generation Venture. Look on the forum page, scroll down to the 2nd gen read only library, engine and drivetrain section and you'll find your starting point. You're in the right place to find anything you need for your ride and will be the best $12 you've ever spent to join. Once it's running right you've got a great ride.
