I usually ride somewhere on 9/11 in remembrance of the 343. Today I had to ride this. 10 wheels instead of 2 and 100ft high

2009 venture possible electric issue?

Checked the ignition switch? -
I think a couple of those bank cards are mine. :cool10::mo money:

Those in the video flip and back. The clamps I used on the hand rails are Bimini boat clamps. I did have to remove some of the rubber as it’s molded in an oval shape from Yamaha. I drilled and tapped set screws in the bottom of each one.

My grandfather was a cotton farmer way back when it was picked by hand. He and his kids did the work and from the stories I’ve heard he’d go nuts if he looked out in his field and saw cotton still on the plants. I remember as a kid riding with dad through cotton fields and he always mentioned the cotton missed by the automated pickers.

Much better than stock with no mods to the bike. -
I designed a set that work different than any I’ve seen, they do flip up for passenger to mount/dismount. @cowpuc has a video of them (surprise right) from Don’s MD last year. I’m not producing any parts right now but will tell you what I did if you’re interested in building some. Basic tools to cut/drill/tap involved.

Its a VMax/FJR specific part inside the pumpkin. Ours are a little different. I was just curious about your take on it, I’ve talked to several with it and unanimously love it. I have no doubt I’ll be happy with it as we pull a trailer on long trips. Sorta anxious to get it done now that I have a little time to mess with it.

So @Papa Fred have you gotten enough miles in to form an opinion on the new gear? I went to install mine today and realized I need a spacer that was not included with the FJR pumpkin I bought. I ordered it but won’t have it for a week. Now either the bike stays on the lift another week or I install the OEM and swap it out again.

You can only pull your big girl panties up and deal with it so many times before the elastic breaks and you show your butt.

What tools do you carry? I did a review of CruzTools Metric kit
RDawson replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
I have some of those Vise Grips, I find them in welding shops. With all those years working in sheet metal and then welding I have a large collection of all shapes and sizes, you can’t have too many Vise grips. -
Couple questions: Are you referring to the carb vent tubes? They are rubber but I can’t think of any steel lines there. Did the light flash under hard acceleration? If so it’s not unusual. With the bike standing vertical off the side stand what was the oil level in the window? Trying to wrap my head around what’s going on. There should be no oil around there other than the airbox drain normally.

All the time a 1/4” socket set, screw drivers, metric ratchet wrenches. Long trips add a plug kit, compressor, 3/8&1/2” ratchets and assorted sockets, ohmeter, crimps, wire. -
I finally got around to dropping my FJR pumpkin off today to get the speedo sensor hole milled out. Got the new Nexen mounted and have an Edset’s Bluestreak being delivered Wednesday. Gotta start riding again soon, mods are more expensive than gas.

I would practice with 1/8 or thinner so you don’t have to burn as hot. You’ll be “stacking dimes” before you know it.

Is TCI going bad?

Do the 1st gens have a tip switch. My sister has a Goldwing trike that was doing the same thing, was a tip over switch. Before they found it she got pretty good pulling the clutch, turning key off and on, and releasing the clutch without losing hardly any speed. -
This is my favorite aluminum fab. Glass shop brought me a brand new dodge truck and a picture of what they wanted. Spool gun used on this one.

Off Road adventure, on a first gen Venture (advice?)

Aha I knew Puc couldn’t leave this one alone. -
Funny to see that today, I sold my last boat 24 years ago and just bought a small bass boat about the time COVID shut down the schools. My wife, daughter, and I spent most of the summer fishing. Just today the wife told me I need to get a bigger boat to take kids/grandkids out tubing and skiing in the future. I had to remind her neither of the girls are married yet so I’m hoping there’s not grandkids in the near future. That is exactly the kind of boat I had in mind to buy whenever I run across a deal.

Ahhhh @cowpuc you brought back some memories. My first welding I learned in high school was in an auto body vocational class. We learned with the torches on flat sheet metal, migs were just coming about and cost more than a good used truck. We pushed that puddle around until I was welding quarter panels in wrecks without thinking about it. The next year they started a welding class but the shop wasn’t ready until Christmas. I had worked in a sheet metal shop over the summer so I’d expanded on my welding there. I was the only one in class with any experience so once I did my coupons with stick and mig I got to play with a brand new Miller tig the rest of the year while everybody else learned from the beginning. As a joke somebody handed me two Pepsi cans stacked and challenged me to weld em, teacher said it couldn’t be done. As a 17 year old that knew everything I took it as a challenge, a few weeks later I presented the teach with two stacked cans fused all the way around with a continuous bead. No telling how many cans I burned up trying 2-3 hours a day until I got it. Wish I’d kept those cans. I have a pretty well stocked welding shop that since I decided to semi-retire last year is just there for my personal repairs or playing, the only thing missing is a high freq tig to do aluminum. That is probably coming next summer just because I want one to play with again. I haven’t tigged aluminum in 20-25 years so I doubt I’ll ever do cans again but I turn down work every week on aluminum boats that just fixing a few a year would be profitable enough to buy more Yamaha parts.

Don’t go too cheap. The cheap flux core welders are a pain. Try to upgrade to a gas unit and learning is pretty easy. Use the right wire and heat, a cold mig can make a decent looking weld that has no penetration.
