  1. Don’t take my comments as a dig toward you. I am one of the worst about leaving mine turned on and I know better. All it takes is one piece of trash in a carb or a sticky float. I’m thinking of adding an automatic valve to mine before I end up where you are.
  2. I mentioned the same thing, kind of an I-D-10T proofing step. I got out of the habit of turning off the gas with my 1st gen and never got back into it. My bike is setting in the shop right now with the gas on. We got in around 75 miles and supper this evening.
  3. I’ve been considering the last couple years of adding a vacuum petcock to my bike like the Virago and some other smaller bikes had. The hard part to that will be getting gas to the pump on start up. Maybe a 12v solenoid valve instead would be the answer, key on and gas flows.
  4. Glad to hear that @saddlebum . Sorry to see you on the other side of it @Squidley. We discussed it at work last week wondering at how if affects people in such different ways. My wife, one daughter, two brothers, one sister, and several of my nieces and nephews have had it with no major issues other than loss of taste and smell lingering for a long while. One brother has been 4 months with no taste or smell. My wife masks up everywhere and sanitizes constantly and still got it while I took no precautions even at home with her sick and as far as I know never had it yet.
  5. Try bleeding the system at the banjo bolt on the master, then finish at the slave. They trap air right there quite often. Make sure no fluid gets on the plastic, it will melt the the body parts.
  6. The hard start referred to is caused by hydro locking the engine. If carb floats stick or leak with the gas left on it will fill the cylinders with gas, then when you try to start it the liquid can’t be compressed so it bends or breaks rods. Gas will also fill the crankcase. If you replace the engine make sure to get the carbs rebuilt and set correctly or you could very well blow the new engine the same way. 1st gens aren’t near as likely to do this since their gas tanks are below the carbs.
  7. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/topic/187-a-list-of-known-problems-on-the-second-gen-venture/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-641876 Don’t let this list spook you, it’s pretty comprehensive of things to look for over time. They’re great bikes.
  8. I’m sure it’ll depend a lot on location but around my neck of the woods $4000-5000 is what they bring. The Ventures never caught on here for some reason, Wings and HD hogged the touring market. I got my 07 three years ago for $4k with 30k on the clock.
  9. Uhhmmm I thought the WNY is the week before?
  10. I second @luvmy40’s recommendation. If you’re gonna do the valves print off the instructions in the read only library here and contact Skydoc. His kit has the tools and shims to get the job done quickly. Plenty of help and advice available here, it’s not a real hard job if you’re handy with tools and follow the directions.
  11. Already riding on our end of KY. 🏍🏍🏍🏍
  12. Eykamp sometimes has one for sale, they’re pretty hard to find. I’ve been considering making some but haven’t gotten to that project yet.
  13. I just checked my subscription knowing it expires in March, it says they autopay now. That’ll save me a headache most years when I forget it until I can’t post🤣🤣🤣. One more thing jumped in my memory bank, BOSS IS HAVING ANOTHER BIRTHDAY TOMORROW. Have a good one Don.

  14. Welcome. You’ve found the right place to keep it purring, best $12 you can spend. You got the first rule right, pictures are required 😁. Good looking bike.
  15. A snapshot of two weeks of weather in KY. We got 5.6” of rain yesterday. Roads that were under 6” of snow a week ago are under 2’ of water today.
  16. Is there a noise filter/isolator installed? It can mute it.
  17. Glad to see you back @skydoc_17 hope you’re healing well.
  18. I haven’t looked at the Ohio or Mississippi River levels but the lakes here that dump into the Ohio are still at winter pool levels. The dam here is dumping at around 4 times the normal rate. If River levels rise they can hold back a lot of water in our lakes to ease flooding. Granted we don’t have to wait for a spring thaw or have tons of snow. I’m hoping the increased flow will have the catfish ready to bite. Hope everybody’s as lucky.
  19. They forecast us 12”-20”. Only got 5-6, I’ll count that as a win. Snow rarely lasts a week here, riding today and going fishing Saturday.
  20. Who besides me and @Squidleycan ride in 63* weather and park beside last week’s snow bank? Gotta love it.
  21. Told ya our weather is crazy here.
  22. Yeah, sounds terrible.
  23. Congrats on getting back on the horse. I too took a 20+ Hiatus. Wife and I enjoy traveling on the Venture much to the dismay of our kids. The one in med school is sure we’ll get killed on it. The blue/black is the best paint scheme of em all, it took me a year or two to find the one we have.
  24. Does your bike have an ignition bypass installed? Maybe something there.
  25. I know we’re laughing and joking about the weather, taking it in stride but I feel for those in Texas and areas that have no resources to deal with it. I told my wife this morning we come and go as we want, have power and water, along with backup generators and a freezer full of food. We’re on a well and have backup heat so we don’t depend on anybody else. Whenever we have an extended power outage the neighbors know there’ll be running water at the hydrant in my yard. In other words we don’t have the right to complain about it. We’re short handed at work right now so I’ve been pulling some 48 hour shifts and gone for long hours, knowing the wife has everything she needs while I’m gone means a lot.
