  1. No chain there. First thing I would look at is the bottom bolt has a crush washer on it to seal. If he had that cover off and didn’t put that washer on you’ll get a leak there.
  2. I’ve never had to go into this but here is my favorite trick to remove a stuck bolt. If there is enough access I slip a nut over the bolt and mig weld it on, then a ratchet and socket will usually back it out easily. The big trick here is I try to pull it out hot, don’t put much torque on it hot or as said it’ll twist. Most of the time with the heat of the weld they’ll back out without much torque at all.
  3. Bought mine with a shorty, hated it. The buffeting was terrible at highway speeds. It’d be ok I guess around home but we travel on it. Bagger shield makes a two piece you can remove the top half when you want.
  4. Key hasn’t been pulled out of that bike in years. It also hasn’t had a battery last couple years so good luck.
  5. I hate to admit it but I hot wired mine. It now starts in gear without pulling clutch. Got my cruise working though.
  6. I keep telling everybody to install intercom mic/speakers in both rider and passenger helmets. The gear whine will no longer be the most irritating sounds you hear.
  7. Look close at the clutch switch housing. Mine on my 86 was cracked and let the switch move just enough the lever couldn’t engage it.
  8. Yes it should start stand up, in gear, clutch pulled. Switch is at end of lever, it should start in neutral regardless of clutch switch. Same with side stand.
  9. That’s one thing I wish I’d learned @skydoc_17, I had plans for the military in high school til I crushed two vertebrae in a car crash. After school I got into the sheet metal trade and then fighting fire. I have a well outfitted welding shop but no machining knowledge. I’ve always wanted to learn it but never had the time raising kids.
  10. Actually this bulb out performed the original bulb in the OEM light tremendously. For only $40 it greatly increased visibility, enough that the first time I had the wife along she asked what i did to it. Is it as good as an LED housing, maybe not but way better than what I had.

  13. Happy Birthday, I was scared to open this thread at first afraid I'd find pictures of your birthday suit.
  14. Haha. We have the iPhones, my 19 y/o shares her location when traveling and the 26 y/o keeps me updated traveling. It comes from my line of work and worrying when they’re on the road. They both live 4 hours away in different directions. Other than that I don’t pry unless they give me a reason.
  15. HHHMMMMM I have daughters, maybe I need these for date nights. 😁😁😁
  16. Carb cleaner and silicone will be your friend around the wires.
  17. I’ve not used the swivel tie downs but have pulled thousands of miles using the square ones lower in your pic, What I was hauling was much heavier than my bike with no problems at all.
  18. Through side stand switch I get, that’s how I usually kill mine. Stop, stand down, then key. I understand the starter circuit thru the clutch but don’t know why the ignition would be there.
  19. Boy this hurts my feelings reading about trailering Ventures😩😩😩, these conversations are usually over on that other bike forum. That being said I’m either gonna have to trailer mine or cage it to Vogel if I get to go, gotta haul my daughter’s stuff to Bama that weekend for school. At least we won’t have to worry about slipping in the oil on the trailer floor like those others 🤣
  20. Just get a quality built trailer. Aluminum doesn’t act anything like steel after being welded, it usually fails with a crack or breakage instead of bending.
  21. In a moment of weakness 27 years ago today I exchanged rings and ate a cake so I got the bike out and we got in around 100 miles to celebrate today.
  22. Was that 26 cold with weight on the seat? As you compress the shock it seems to me pressures have to increase.
  23. Glad to hear you’re on the mend.
  24. In KY our road signs say “keep right except to pass” and we mean it. Drive in the left lane here and your rear view mirror will be full of a redneck running up your tailpipe.
