Come down to the rally in KY in May

Orlin's Maintenance Day June 16th to 19th 2022
RDawson replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Watering Hole
I try to find time every year to make this one, not sure if it’ll work out yet again. Moving the oldest to Florida some time in June to start her career in Gainesville. If all goes to plan this will be my last year of employment and hope to hit all the rides. -
Hate to hear that Don. I’ve had back issues since I was a kid and crushed two vertebrae at 16. Nothing hurts worse than back pain. I’m a regular at the chiropractor. Prayers for her recovery.

Don’t you know it!!! The other one is half way through her aerospace schooling, two hard working, independent, driven young women.
-
Hope everyone is well. I took a new position in November, unforeseen things happened that have kept me running crazy lately, and screen time has been nil. We’re well here, trying to help the oldest move to Florida now that she’s got the MD tacked on to her signature. (Dr. Dawson has a scary sound don’t it?). We’ve gotten exactly one afternoon of riding in since new year, but that’s getting ready to change. Hope to see y’all this summer.

Anybody interested in seeing the lake area or doing a little fishing I can have my fishing boat and hopefully the pontoon there. The pontoon is getting refitted now but should be ready.

Retirement plans were delayed a bit. Was planning for Dec 31st but with the year we’ve had I pushed it back to July 31. Terminally unemployed 8/1/2022.

Sorry I’ve been AWOL. When I took my new position in November I had no idea what was coming. Overtime went through the roof ( I’m scheduled 108 hours this week), the famous Dec 10th tornado in our area, we experienced the first passing of one of our firefighters, you name it, it has gone south in the last few months. Been on the road a lot with my daughter graduating med school and trying to help her buy a place in Florida for her first real full time job as an ER /Trauma doctor. Enough whining on my part. The rally is moving forward, the venue rented, and plans being made. I’m working on a new Saturday supper ride destination, the restaurant burned down recently. (Not in our town so you can’t blame me). Going to Hannigan’s tomorrow to schedule a visit/tour for those interested. There is a block of rooms at Kenlake Lodge under the VR name.

HEY, YALL. Life’s been a little hectic around here last few months and I haven’t been on the site much. I’ve been thinking about what to do with the rally concerning Covid, tornado damage, and all that goes with it. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m tired of waiting around and having life interrupted so let’s do this. The park wasn’t damaged in the storm and they’ve gotten the roads cleaned up. Looking forward to seeing y’all again.

I’ve been MIA for a few months. Hate to hear of the problem returning but glad to see you’re doing well.
-
Wish I’d known you were here. We’d have grabbed a meal.

74* New Year’s Day with 3” of rain. Woke up this morning to 28* and snow/ice falling fast. No new year rides here.
-
I would also be looking at the bearings in that wheel.

Everything you never knew you wanted to know about oranges...

I’d add some Seafoam and change the tree oil to Rotella. -
I don’t normally do them either, that being said I plan to work less this year. Exactly 5 months less. I passed the 20 year mark of my hazardous duty career last night at midnight. July 31st 2022 is my target date of eternal unemployment.

Hope y’all had a good one.

Down here in the Midwest the weather is crazy as usual. Had 70s last week and tornadoes. Back in the 70s again now, predicting high 60s Saturday and accumulating snow Sunday.
-
Merry Christmas to all y’all. Brought the marm n kids to Florida for an early Christmas, just as warm back in Ky. Between the tornadoes and this trip the bikes been setting. Hope to remedy that this week.

Confirmed today that there were only eight deaths in the candle factory, while any are terrible it is much better than anticipated. They haven't released the number of injured but I talked to the chief of another dept within minutes of the collapse and was told there were over 100 trapped. Luckily most were able to walk out once a small amount of debris was removed. The storm shelter area of the plant did its job.

That’s so good to hear. I had a firefighter on shift during the storm that lives near Mayfield. He knew his area got hit but no idea if his house was ok or not. He finished the shift, went home, and found he was less than a mile from the path.
-
I hauled a pickup load to Mayfield today donated by the UK Med School students. They’ve raised a large amount of $$$ to buy supplies for the three cities hit in Ky. I’m waiting to hear back but I have offered to take a 45’ box trailer to Lexington and haul those supplies. It’s gonna be a long recovery. I’m hoping the numbers released today by the candle factory are correct. They’re saying only 8 confirmed dead with 9 missing, that’s incredible if true.

I’ve never seen anything like this. It split around us and wiped out communities all around us. I was on shift during the storms and fielding calls all over. We sent our technical rescue unit to Mayfield to assist. Longest 24 hour shift I’ve ever worked. It destroyed Mayfield, damaged several communities, took out at least 3 fire Dept’s, hurt and killed unknown numbers. It wiped out a lake front subdivision just miles from where we’re hosting the rally in May. The heaviest damage is very near @Ky. Rider, I’ve sent him an email but haven’t heard back yet. West KY can use your prayers.

I wish I had your patience, the restoration is great. -
72* and sunny here today, I got in a few miles running some errands. Supposed to be the same tomorrow and Saturday but I have a 48 hr shift so I’ll miss it, rain Sunday.
