  1. I used to have an chevy that absolutely would not run without the choke. I tried everything fuel related, then realized the thermostat was stuck OPEN. IT couldn't warm up enough to run. I doubt if it applies but might be worth a look. Don't know how hot these things need to be to run:think:
  2. Got mine and my wifes from leather up - They have been very good to deal with. Fast shipping and accurate descriptions. I don't remember the model I have but they have a gusset in the back of the legs with a zipper which is necessary if I am wearing jeans. I do have large legs from years of football and sports if you have normal sized legs, shouldn't be a problem. My wifes are lined and the same "size" as mine(Only because we knew the lining would make the legs tight!) but I can't even get them on. They seem to have a knowledgable cust serv staff - The wife called them and asked about sizing before she bought and that is why she went with the larger size. Mine seem maybe just a little thin but I think they would be adequate in the event of a slide across the pavement - the wifes are pretty heavy duty. Hope this helps
  3. Another good reason to let the dealer install - If you order a tire and there is a problem, you get to pay to have it unmounted shipped back and wait for a replacement. My guys put on a commander and it was bad - they had another in stock and replaced the same day - no charge. It was worth the extra $3 to get it all from them. and no hassles
  4. My dealer ordered a replacement and installed it for nothing - They have been really good about anything warranty related
  5. If I don't keep it up to the top line on the sight glass, the oil level light comes on under hard acceleration. Checked with mechanic and he said this is normal. The last time I had it tuned - I let them do the oil change too. He did the same and said he always runs them a little high. I have never seen any oil leak, but the end of the hose is a little smudgy looking.
  6. We do keep an eye on them. They do go quicker after hitting the bars. I checked it and thought it would hold out. Hate to change them too early and figured it still had it in it but just lost confidence after we got there (had a hair raising experience on the way as well which didn't help any.) Honestly, it might have held up but would rather be safer than sorrier(if that even a word).
  7. A little bit of a long story, but avoid or be very careful with Carlock Powersports in Jackson TN. At least when we raised he** with the manager he made them do it close to right. While we were at the bikefest, the back tire dwindled quicker than expected so... Off to Jacksonville, TN to find another. Ended up at Carlock Powersports (The local Yamaha/Kaw dealer) A. The didn't have the right size rear AT ALL. B They only had the Bricks. After being told by the parts dept. that they had nothing, I asked one of the other workers out front if there was anyone else that might have a tire (Had already checked Honda and Harley shops) At least this guy realized that we need a tire BAD. He says surely we have something close enough! so, back in we go. Found a 130/90-15 (close enough at this point) Service guy asks what bike and I told him a 06 TD, he says it will be $70 to mount it - (YEAH, we're off!). Pulled around, he looks at the bike and says Oh, that will be $140 to mount. They knew we were from out of town, they could see by looking that we NEEDED the tire and decided they would get some extra to go play. I argued with him for a bit, he went to the service manager and came back and said it was a hard tire to change due to shaft drive and all(Guess other 06 TD's aren't shaft with bags) and it would be 120. I told him straight out that he was gouging me :headache:and my normal guy charges $55. But go ahead since we gotta have it. We then went and found the manager and told him they were gouging us since our guy can do it in 45 minutes and this places labor rate is $80/hr. Manager at least went back and checked, then came back and said well, they should have said it may take a couple of hours and he was sorry they didn't make it clear but they would charge the hourly rate. (I had already clocked them when they started. Took the guy 45 mins - they still charged $89. But at least it wasn't $120. I told the service kid that he needed to learn how to explain to customers that the hourly rate is X and we think it will take this long but may be up to that long and the charge MIGHT be Y. He didn't seem to care. I know, will get rid of that 130 Brick ASAP:8:. Forgot how noisy those suckers are, at least it does have tread and does stick to the road. You would think that a dealer would welcome someone from out of town and try to be gracious and show a little compassion for someone stuck on the road. Got back to bikefest and someone else told us you really have to watch them, they like to charge outragous prices and take a really long time to do simple stuff. Other than that - the people of Jackson and Lexington(especially) are VERY NICE people and a great bunch. The bikefest was to raise money for the battered childrens shelter and they do a great job.
  8. Last Wednesday coming through Nashville, The wife pulling the horse trailer, 4 dogs and 2 horses and me following on the TD, some idiot decided to cut from the left lane to the off ramp. He had already pretty much missed the ramp and shot straight across the three lanes. Wife locked down the truck and trailer (which was of great surprise to me - being behind her) Fortunately, I wasn't to close and slid around and hopped a little but got lined out. When I got back so I could focus on her, it was just like the wrecks you see on tv - tire smoke, gravel and dust everywhere, she was headed for the sloped median between the highway and the offramp with the trailer sideways, the guy had gotten to the ramp and slowed down. She got off the brakes and straightened it out but WOW what a ride. Thanks to her quick thinking and GREAT driving, everyone is safe and happy. It's a terrible feeling watching your loved ones sliding sideways down the highway with nothing you can do but wait for the dust to clear. Moral of the story - watch out for idiots from the left lane to the offramp, don't follow to close - and learn how to grip that seat. (I may need a new Mustang now!) Of course - The guy disappeared and the cops were nice but said there wasn't much they could but keep an eye out for the Black piece of crud 4x4 Chevy pickup.
  9. Warning light usually comes on at about 160-170. Have made 9 and have made 21 before switching to reserve Depends on the fun factor:shock3: After hitting reserve - went 40 last week and hit 212 on the odometer. Put in right at 5 gal. It takes a lot of effort to get the tank REALLY full - It may be a 6 gal tank but I am not sure how much you can really get in above the filler neck I have been squeezing in everything I can get lately since gas prices are freaking out so much.
  10. yamaha replaced ours under warranty
  11. Have gone hough 3 sets all at about 8k or so. inside always wears more. I too use Engine, Front, rear, boot sole(as a last resort). I always thought I hardly used the rears and was really disappointed in myself when they were going at 8k but I feel a little better now.
  12. I don't think anyone was trying to say you made a mistake - If you are happy with it, that's GREAT, some of us are just built different and don't fit on them. The right choice is the one that is right for YOU. My wife loves her wing (and she aint old either)
  13. Have ridden several wings - they are great bikes but... The y make me hurt. Position is awful for me. My wife just got a 92 wing trike - It's really nice but it too is uncomfortable for me. I like the TD and the venture is very nearly the same as far as position. and has most of the amenities. I am just waiting to get a hold of a new voyager now.
  14. Emack had a luggage rack. Don't know if he still does or not.(been a month or so since I talked to him) BUB sleeper slip-on pipes. Sound great have a little rumble at idle and cruising, but - kick it and they really open up and sound great. You didn't ask for this but...I figure I'll throw it in anyway Watch the back brakes close - I have gone through 3 sets of pads each at around 8000 miles or so. (My first ones got into the rotor so I had to replace it.) They will probably wear out the inside first which is really hard to see so if the outside gets anywhere near close, pull the saddle bag and check the inside. My fronts went 25k and I replaced them basically just for fun - They would have done another 10k easy I think. You will read a lot about Avon tires on here and I am sure they are great but you don't see much about Michelin Commanders - they have been a really good tire too. and a little cheaper around here.
  15. Just got to busy to do it when I set up and forgot afterwards.
  16. after all the other tire threads but... I keep reading that Avons are great but you get some bounce or wobble or some other adverse affect around 85MPH and up. True or Not? I have Commanders now and they have been great (smooth as glass up to 100). Needing to replace the front at 18,500. my last rear went 12k. You guys are spooking me off of Avons with this wobble talk - I routinely hit 85 and frequently above it - and I like everything to stay nice and steady. (Sorry to start this again, I went back and dug through the other threads and cant really find much definitive)
  17. We have an 06 TD that we bought with 200 miles on it. Have never had any whine. The dealer Suzuki/Yamaha of Dalton has been great. They replaced the rear shock with no argument and are always great to deal with. Now, RT Cycle in Rossville service department is a pain(Sales staff is great but you only need them once). A friend just bought an 06 TD (He test road it) and he has the whine. He said he mentioned it to the dealer in Rome and they told him he needed an I basket and ordered one asap. I haven't heard yet if it fixed his problem. We have been very happy with ours - Very few problems and the Dalton dealer has been great.
  18. I am running Mich commanders - My last one stuck like glue on wet roads and this one is like ice. Got 12k out of the last one will have to wait on this one. Same brand, same model, same bike, same pressure, same fat a@@- totally different handling. I was starting to wonder if Mich made a "commander" trailer tire. Could be the same situation manieac has run into onthe avons.
  19. Didn't see this thread till this morning. There are about a bazillion things to do around Chatt. Next time your up - Check out Cloudland canyon - (Taking the LONG way) - Pass Menlo on 48 - go up the mountain to Mentone and hit 117(AL), follow it around to Flatrock and back down to Trenton then up 136 to the top of lookout Mtn. You will hit Cloudland Canyon park before long. Along with Nightfall, there is also a ride in every other saturday night in Eton, GA. and Thunder Creek Harley has Sundown one Friday night a month (Check their website). Great riding all over the place around here.
  20. The most motorcycle friendly city I have ever seen.
  21. Guindalf - you still in dalton today? You talking about southern Honda in Rossville or Pye here in Dalton. Every time I have been to Southern, they have had GREAT prices compared to Pye.
  22. I went by this morning on the white RSTD - Don't know who the Venture belogns to:confused24:
  23. My Bub's might be just a little louder than Yamahamers. They have gotten louder as they get more miles on them (20k now). and I think they might be just a little higher pitched. I have never ridden behind it - always from the seat so it's hard to tell. But, like he said - get down on it and they really come to life. Neighbor asked yesterday what model of Harley it was - It sounded SO MUCH smoother than his road king. He said the kids always think it's him when I pull up. They sound great - but I wouldn't mind them being a little louder - another 20k miles ought to do it.
  24. Off an 06 TD. Hit a dog and it got barely bent back to touch the floorboard. has a small marr where it made contact. I don't think it even scratched through the chrome. It did of course bend the ears where it mounts to the frame but was pushed back where it belongs before it was dismounted. Don't see any stress cracks in the chrome there either. PM me with what you think is a reasonable price for it and we will work something out. MH
