  1. Sounds like a little knock or bump. Took it to the dealer, he upped the idle a little bit which cleared it up. Don't know how warm it is where you are or how old you oil is but ours only seems to do it when it's REALLY warm out (above 92-95) and due for an oil change. Dealer said it was nothing to worry about. We'll see what everyone else here says.
  2. Great bike. The shield cuts the wind pretty good but in cold weather - your hands get a lot of wind (Down here, I ride pretty much year round - so long as it's been above freezing all night). You will probably miss the tunes. Am working on a street glide fairing with a 8inch shield. Still get good air and will be installing the stereo. It helped cut a lot of the wind off of my hands. As far as downfalls - I really don't know of any. your not saving much weight with a TD (they are only listed about 30 or 50lbs lighter than a venture.) Seat is not as comfy. Pillion is hard. We switched to Mustang and the wife likes it a whole lot better. I like the backrest on the driver seat. I may have removed the shield twice - I rarely just cruise around town and at 45mph the wind starts feeling like it is really pushing you at 80 it makes my neck hurt. I don't know how these people enjoy themselves without a windshield but - it's up to them. Has the same rear brake wear as the venture (inside wears first) Front plugs are still a trick to get to. pretty much the same bike without the fairing and trunk. Oh yeah - the bars. they are a lot wider on the TD. I like that. The ventures always make me feel squeezed in. These are very comfy for me. If I can think of anything else, I will edit. Surprises the punch out of them Harley guys if you can keep the pipes quiet long enough. Maybe the venture switchers will chime in.
  3. Can you run a modulator on HID? and is this kit a straight plug in swap or is there re-wiring involved?
  4. I run my oil at 3/4 on the window. No level light. If I am just enjoying a nice aggressive ride - I like to run around 30 in 2nd 70 in third. and around 80 in 4th. All are fun starting points. you can gain some really quick jumps that way. but compared to the twins - it sounds like we are really winding out.
  5. Watch the back brake pads. The inside wears first - and rotors are not cheap (trust me). I am getting between 8000 and 12000 miles out of a set. (I am sure with these big feet, I hit it more than I think I do. Have tried to start being very easy on the rear) Changing them is easy and about a 20 minute job. My fronts have been lasting around 25000 miles. I have BUB muff's on - I have not heard the RK's but I am sure my Bubs are louder. Everyone I talk to says they like them. Wife says she can hear me leaving the intersection a mile from the house if I romp on it. They are called sleepers for a reason - reasonably quiet until you kick it in the shorts. (No jet changes) Issues I have had: Back Shock started honking (If you hear it, you will know) Stock tires suck! Get a set of Dunlop e3's. Mine has no clutch whine - I feel sorry for those that do. In 3 years and 36000 miles, that's about the only problems other than going through tires. and needing the oil changed again. If it starts getting hard to shift - change the oil and change the clutch fluid. Hope you got a good dealer - the one here is great.
  6. I usually use both - Have been practicing working the front harder lately. I have locked up the back several times but usually just a little. I try to stay off the back one but feather it when needed to try and avoid lockups and work the front pretty hard. Get into a major scary and that back will definitely lock-up. (I went bouncing around on I40 in Nashville last October - stayed upright but it was close)
  7. Not speedo-healed. I haven't taken the GPS out yet to see if/how far off my speedo is. I hear 6% to 9% on here so not sure - It might be right on. Either way - 6% of 40mph is 2.5 which would be 37.5. My speedo is sill clicking so fast at that point you can't catch 2.5mph difference. I say 40 meaning really close to 40.
  8. My rev limiter kicks in at about 40 in first, 70 in second - I have hit 95 in 3rd without hitting the limiter and went ahead and shifted to 4th. 95 in 3rd is screaming. I happen to have the owners manual laying beside me this morning and noticed earlier that it specifically states that the oil level light may come on or flicker when travelling on uneven ground or under hard accel/decel. If you are getting to 40 or 45 in 1st and the limiter isn't kicking in, I would say it has been disabled. If your not getting up to that, you aren't there yet. But I think you have to add a module (power commander or something like that) to change the limiter - I don't think it can be easily just disabled.
  9. Not so much about trailering but about having it and not riding it. I know a few people at work that have had their bikes for 5-10 years and have 5000-8000 miles on them. One is a Harley, the other is a Honda Shadow. They just don't ride much/far. personally, I like to put miles on it - we have 35000 in 3 years (have slacked off the last year due to building the house) - they don't and that's ok. (I don't get it but - it's ok)
  10. I have the wally world holder but went to home depot and got an insulted EMT strap (for holding electric pipe against walls or whatever) I did have to cut a small strip of rubber to put inside it to thicken it up a bit but it won't scratch the chrome. The bolt that comes with the cup holders is a 5mm (If I remember right or a 6mm if I don't). My wife is wanting to replace her cruzercaddy because it tilts and dumps stuff out it you get something a little taller in it.
  11. Phone # is 706) 278-1620. I think the service managers name is Greg(I might be wrong). They have been great to work with and give excellent customer service. His mechanic knows ventures and TD's and I doubt they will give up until they find it. You are still under warranty. as an example of their service - I was in there the other day wandering around and asked the salesman if I could get the roadside assistance # (Since I am technically the second owner of the bike - I never got a card) The salesman took me to the lady that does that (Who was busy doing something else), who took me to her office and got on the computer, checked and changed it to my name then wrote the assistance # on my insurance card for me. No questions other than to make sure I had the VIN and something that proved it was mine. They have been really great to work with.
  12. Several have mentioned Mt. magazine It is great - go all the way over. and also, there is a Mt. Nebo right around Dardanelle. That's a nice ride too. (Up and down the mtn is short but it's pretty.)
  13. I don't remember the road names but look at google for any of these places and you can get them. Robbers cave, Cedar lake, Talemina drive, Pig trail(Hwy 23 - BE CAREFUL - it's not as bad as the dragon but it is a twisty road as the name implies), Highway 7 if you are going anywhere northern AR. Stop by Devil's Den state park Hot Springs is beautiful, Heavener OK is kind of a neat old town and the roads around there are great. Mena AR is another neat old town. Cedar lake - South of Heavener OK has RV camping as well as horse camping(Which I doubt you will pull the horse trailer - I just mention so you will know to watch for crossings and the right camping area). This has been my wifes favorite place for 25 years - she still misses it. There is a place called Billy creek off the Talemina drive - It is primitive camping but really pretty. Robbers Cave has RV hookups Cedar lake has RV hookups Devils Den has RV hookups (You owe it to yourself to see devils den at least once) even if you can just take the bike up there. Moccasin bend North of Russellville, AR on Hwy 7 - Has atv trails and horse trails and primitive camping (You can get a large RV in there) Steele Creek is at the head of the buffalo river - and WOW - it is pretty. Not sure about rv hookups but definitely has camping. and some great motorcycle roads. Be careful taking an RV in though - it's steep. (I can come up with more - I have been around that area a little)
  14. like it better than the commander (was about 6$ more)
  15. and I love that throttle - 60 mile round trip daily on back roads - I hit it pretty hard. Riding 2-up normally around 45mpg (she doesn't so much like the throttle). It is stock except the bub's. We have gotten up to 49 2-up on back roads. I usually hit reserve around 175 miles and put in 4 gallons.
  16. To see you guys posting and being excited about going for a ride in APRIL - I haven't quit riding yet. That leads to a joke - You know why the south is so windy? Cause the north sucks. I would hate to have to prepare my bike for winter and wait for 6 months to go for a ride. I feel for you guys! Enjoy - now that you can go! I assume you are happy to go because of the weather and not being physically unable - either way... glad you can ride now.
  17. I believe the relationship with the spouse is more important than the kind of bike you are riding - sounds like you are getting the best of both worlds. Keep your v-star and you are both happy when going to Harley events. What more could anyone ask for.
  18. Didja get it loose?
  19. and am VERY happy with it. Rode home from the shop in the rain and never had a slip - in fact, it felt great. Can't speak to Avon's but I would recommend the E3. Had the Mich commanders on previously (still do on front) and would recommend them as well. They are good tires but I think this E3 is a little more confidence inspiring. So far, it feels great.
  20. With the boots a lot of us wear, we get a pretty good grip on rubber - it is easy to pull something off. I doubt the manufacturers can attach them securely enough. The highway boards on my wifes wing from kury are missing a strip too. Those are pretty small pieces of rubber to try to stand up to the abuse they get. I would think that just chrome would definitely have a slippage problem when it's a little damp.
  21. Seems there are several of us now with e3's. I got my rear yesterday. Coming from Commanders I was leary of trying something new but figured we can always wear it out and go back. This tire seems VERY Sticky. It was sprinkling off and on and about 45 degrees on the way home. I never felt a slip. Not having the scuff in done yet, I held back but had to goose it a few times. I believe this is going to be a very good tire - It rides great. I read conflicting posts elsewhere about noise and howling, low miles, high miles, bounce, no bounce was starting to scare me but, I never heard a peep out of it (the Bub's do cover up some noises) and was very smooth. about 35 miles on it and very happy so far. Will update as time goes on.
  22. I always run them right on the maximum from the sidewall. (41lbs if I remember right - been a while since I was forced to put that Brick back on)
  23. Will give comments as soon as it warms back up and can ride some. Supposed to be COLD for the next few days.
  24. Since we expect the G3 should have cd - I went so far as to even obsolete a cd player. The stereo we selected just has a usb /sd port and weatherband. 1 GB of music and don't have to carry even 1 cd or an Ipod. (I always worried about the thought of having to deal with an ipod while riding) I will try to go over to the delphi forums. I already have the stereo and speakers - went with Pyle marine grade stereo and waterproof speakers. I thought about putting 4 speakers in the fairing but figured would wait until we find a trunk and put them in back there. The stereo has a remote so the co-pilot will be able to control.
  25. I don't care for the fairing on the venture. Something about the look of it just turns me off. As you said - to each his own. I am happy for the folks that like the look of the fairing but it just isn't what floats my boat.
