The original screen was 22.5 inches, I was not looking over it and I'm 6'4". I cut about 5.5 inches off the top of that screen, that's when it got turbulent(not surprising), the new one is also 22.5 inches and no turbulence at all, it is great at highway speeds

installed Progressive springs in the forks of my 83' today. all buttoned up and went for a quick rip on some backroads to test. these springs are probably the best bang for your buck upgrade for these bikes, I am now a believer!! with these and and wind screen I am ready for he Ontario meet next week

i mounted the Slipstreamer windscreen a couple weeks ago and it has made a world of difference. i had cut down the original screen that was on my bike because it was beyond repair(scratched and foggy). cutting it down so i could see over it made for a lot of air getting to my face, which was fine by me on country backroads and such but i soon realized that it was far too turbulent to ride for any distance at highway speeds. so i decided to spring for a new screen so i could use the bike for which it was intended. it works really well,seems to be well built, I needed to elongate a couple of the mounting holes to make it fit just right but a dremel tool with a small cylindrical stone made quick work of that. it is possible that the front stay of my bike is slightly tweaked from the bike taking a nap here and there over the years, who knows, i generally expect aftermarket parts to need a little massaging from time to time anyhow. overall i would recommend this product to anyone needing a new one and the shipping from Fortnine.ca was only a few days. It also came with my new Progressive springs but thats a story for a different thread

I checked my fuel milage last week for the first time. I rode my bike to work which is almost all highway travel, filled before I left and filled at the same station near My home on the way home, travelled between 110-120kph ( 70-75mph), and a total distance of 197km (122miles) and my 83' ran at 42mpg. I thought that was petty decent and on par for what it should be

I received my progressive springs in the mail today.the shocks got new seals,bushings and oil over the winter and have only travelled about 1000kms so far. from all the looking and reading that i have done this is what i understand about the install so far(correct me where I'm wrong)… I CAN install them with the forks in the bike i need to remove the top caps from the upper fork tubes,fish out the old spacers and springs, compress the shocks, measure the oil height to 5.5 inches from the top, (probably have to let some out the drain hole at the bottom because the stock springs use more oil than the progressives?) after getting the oil to 5.5inches without any parts in there i can let the forks fully extend and put in the Progressive springs and new preload spacers(cut to personal taste) and screw the caps back on, thats it?? just for preload reference I'm about 250lbs

i received my Slipstreamer in the mail today. seems to be a pretty well made piece, haven't tried to mount it yet but will report back with a fitment review

i am looking to order Progressive springs from Fortnine.ca, according to their website they don't have Model specific spring for my 83'. i checked the Progressive Suspension site and it says my bike uses part #11-1112 . so i go back to Fortnine.ca and search for that part # and it does come up but says it won't fit my bike??? is their database just not accurate enough? i did notice that on the Progressive site that there are model specific notes that say the required spacers come with the kit. possibly the ones from Fortnine.ca just don't come with the spacers? I would really rather order from a Canadian store to avoid duties and the poor dollar and its free shipping if I order from them. Also on a side note should these Progressive springs fit into 86' and up forks if i upgrade mine at a later date?

Thanks for your input, shipping to Canada is about $75usd which is about the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger, by the time it gets to me it will be about $225cad with the currency excange. Wish there was a Canadian dealer i could get one from. I like the fact that i can choose a height other than the stock height

I would like a new windshield for my 83. When looking at used ones are the mk1 and mk2 different in any way or can I use any first gen? Along the lines of what cimmer Said.... if your seat is off there is a large plug under the rear seat area on the left side of the bike.this plug takes care of all the rear lighting. I think you are looking for a blue/white or yellow/black(I'm not certain which) to light up with a test light when you press either of the brake levers(with the ignition key on) Then check the corresponding wire on the other side of the plug to see if the power is going through the plug. I had a similar problem where the tail light would intermittently turn on and off when I wiggled the wires going onto this plug. I couldn't get the pins in the plug to tighten up so I cut them both and rejoined them separate from the plug with some spade connectors. Good luck,hope this helps a little

I entered " yamaha venture " into kijiji without any filters and searched all of Ontario and there's 15-20 of them in varying condition and prices from $700- $3000 most are in southern Ontario and a few would definitely be worth looking at. I paid $900 for mine last fall and have another $1200 or so in it to make it a solid road worthy bike, it's got lots of small cracks and scrapes but it's a decent 20 foot looker and runs cool and smooth as a top

Welcome to the forum, yes you should be able to air up the front forks, there should be a shraeder valve up in the black trim piece that surrounds the bottom of the handlebars and the ignition key hole. The 4 settings you refer to on the rear are for rear shock damping, 1being the softest and 4 being the hardest. According to my manual you want to set the damping knob on 1or 2 for solo riding. The manual also reads that the "LOW" setting is 11psi for the front and 14psi for the rear. The "MID" setting for the front is 14psi and 43psi for the rear. The "HIGH" setting is 17psi for the front and 71psi for the rear. I personally run front and back in the mid range for solo riding as I am a fairly heavy individual (250LBS). Just start at the low settings and work your way up if it feels too squishy. Good luck,safe riding. Paul

Congrats on the new ride. I too come from a sport bike background and have about the same observations as you. I bought mine last fall for $900 and have put another $1200 or so into it making it safe and reliable. I have just started riding it the last couple weeks and enjoy the relaxed riding position. The power really comes on after 4k or so and does pull pretty hard for such a large bike. I completely delink ed the brakes , put in stainless lines, rebuilt the calipers with new seals and new pads and they are still mediocre at best, I am getting used to just leaving more space and remembering that's it's just kinda like driving an old truck lol. I will be keeping my eye out for a newer front end which will accept better calipers but for now I'm enjoying the ride and will put that on the to do list for next winter. Enjoy the ride!!
