Yesterday I went for a ride up in TN on some back roads and I came up on one of those little rivers / creek (whatever you want to call it) with a cement roadway under the water to drive on as you cross it. As I approached the rivers edge, I see a red pick up truck on the other side and an elderly man sitting in the truck looking at me. I could not back my wing up for the angle of the cement slab was on quite a steep downward slope to the water and I am now facing downhill and in no way could I turn the bike around on this slope. I looked at the guy across the river and raised my hands over my head as if saying What now? Oh well, lets do it.. The water didn't look all that deep.. 3-4 inches maybe.. (I thought)..and the river / creek was about 30 ft wide. SO here I go, in 1st gear, and my fornt tire/ wheel enters the water, and there is no turning back now. The width of the cement road under the water is just a little wider than a cage. After my rear wheel became partially submerged I felt the bike being pushed to my right and I was quickly nearing the edge of the cement road under the water. My mind is going crazy with so many thoughts. I turned to the left and gave it some throttle (still in 1st gear) and the water came up over the top of my boot with my foot on the left foot peg.. I thought Oh ****, here I go, Im going to loose my wing and what an idiot for driving into this water in the first place. But, by the grace of God and luck on my side, I made it through. The guy in the truck had his windows down and I stopped along side his truck. He said **** that was close. I said yea it sure was, I sure thought I was going to loose my wing right then, but I can promise I will never do that again.. That was just way to close.. Last year, I went for a ride with two other guys and I crossed a different river. creek and after I got across, I took a picture on the last guy crossing. He is pulling a Unigo trailer behind him and you cant see it. See attached picture.. All three of us crossed this river with our wings.. I'm not making a habit out of doing this now and I am very certain I will never do it again..

I went from a RSV to a GW 1800 a few years back.. don't take anything I say negatively towards the RSV, but I will never go back to one. The first 200 - 300 miles on a wing are what I call the "New Experience" ride. You will not get used a wing in 50 or 100 miles that is for sure.. After the new experience / breakin, (Im talking about YOU the rider here), you become more attached and find that your legs are really not feeling as spread apart as they felt during those first 100 miles. Every mile you consume, you become more and more infatuated with power and overall handling. The wing is not a light bike, and it becomes much heavier after you and your loved one loads up what both of you think is a "must have" for the ride you are about to go on. As mentioned a few times above, you need to take one on a LONG ride.. renting one (even for a whole weekend) is a great suggestion. If it cost's you $350 bucks for the weekend that is a lot cheaper than buying a wing and not wanting it after you bought it..

Happy Easter back at ya bud,.. I just had to look up a few words you often post to get their true meaning, and I just happen to somewhat resemble those words....as do a few others I know here..and so now I understand why you post those words so often.. Lop Eared - having ears that droop or hang down... Varmint - an awnry/ornery, pesky/pesty, grouchy, cantankerous, belligerent, tetchy, argumentative, crabby, unreasonable, or bad tempered HUMAN BEING OR CREATURE

Don, I don't want to commit that I will be there this year because we will just be getting back from our out west trip near the end of May... I want to attend, but don't feel right making a commitment at this time. If the decision is to have MD every other year, a thought comes to my mind where it could be coordinated with the Vogel rally so that one year it's MD and the next year is Vogel...(just a thought)

Story time!! YOUR chance to tell us all about those biking days long gone by!!
Eck replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Well, back when I was a younger, like most any average man, I seemed to always have this strong urge to ride many a different model. I tried many different ones and found that some models came stock with lots of "eye candy" that just stood out and made a man drool just to look at it, and others you could tell were getting old, worn out and road pretty hard. Basically , not worth fooling with. I really cant say I was never satisfied with any of the rides I had in my life, but I can say the best ride I ever have is when I ride my Goldwing............. So ....what the heck were you thinking........................ -

Yep... , After attending one of B2Mom and B2Dad's rally's, my wife went to the mail box a few days later and I received a speeding ticket from some town in TN...Then, the very next day she went to the mail box and I received another speeding ticket from another town in TN. Now that was an expensive trip!!!!! It was I that was in the wrong and I got caught.. :mo money: -

I totally agree with you Skid.. I believe that when any man or woman feels their heart cramp up whenever they see a red light behind them the KNOW they are doing wrong. Now if their heart does not cramp up then they don't have a clue as to why they are being pulled over..but either way, they should show total respect for the officer and be patient and kind until they are told why they were pulled over. Oh believe me, I have gotten really mad about being pulled now... Ask Sleeperhawk and his mechanic.. or my wife.. I didn't cuss the officer out I just said: Your %$%$%-ing kidding me.? (Found out he wasn't) -

Sam, per your request, I sent you my phone number in another email, but here it is again: 256-429-8623 NOTE: Please don't do any of this until we speak. If after trying all the other recommendations, you need to manually turn the reverse actuator to the neutral position if it's not already there. This is done by removing the lower front cowl and the upper black cowl behind the forks. You will then put a large crescent wrench on the actuator nut and turn it slowly clockwise until it's in the neutral position in this diagram (see attached). You need to do this with the key off and the reverse shift switch out. Once you get it turned, turn on the key and see if the reverse light still flashes. The neutral cable is the one the blue arrow is pointing at and the other is the reverse cable. The purple dots are the lead cable ends in the pulley for positioning reference. See attached picture!! Edit: Sam, I hope you get this email before you begin taking more of your bike apart. After we spoke on the phone I decided to locate a few pictures and send you them so you can see what you will be getting into. It WONT be an easy task if the reverse module went bad, and you have to replace it. I would not even tackle it myself swapping out the reverse module. To do what you and I were talking about - turning he module to the neutral position, I think you / we can do...but if the module needs replaced, you will be in a pickle because you will have to put the whole bike back together before you can take it to a dealer to fix it. See attached pics: one picture shows the location (somewhat anyway) of the reverse Module and the last picture is what I need you to pay attention to, for it shows how much you will have to tear the bike apart to "change out" the reverse module with a new one. I cant help you on the change out because I have never done it before.............. Im going to try to call you again right now too.. Eck -
Man keep the Apps coming... I just happen to be one of those 60's guys that don't know much of anything about these new phones. Many thanks to you too Dennis for starting this thread!

Yea, your right I guess but not so sure that is always the case on every bike. Might just be though, but watching the speed on the GPS is most always correct no matter what bike you are on was my point. My point was not that you were wrong. Ride safe...and ride slow...but I guess you do anyway by your site name.. -
So, aren't we trying to discourage texting and driving?

This is the only way it should be done....You never have to take your eyes off the highway. -

Sam (You quoted); Eco I have the relay container loose but I have not been able to get to to the relays without pulling on the wires. I how do I get to them? Thanks so much for all your advice. Sam Sam, Relay "A" and relay "B" are down inside of a rubber protective boot. Both relays have their own rubber boot. To release the rubber boot from the frame, the rubber boot "slides" over ( or hooks on to) a small metal tab. You have to "push upwards" on the rubber boot to release it / slide it off the metal tab. Once the rubber boot has been removed from the holding tab, you must push UPWARD on the wire harness as you pull DOWNWARD on the rubber boot to expose either relay. You must slide the rubber boot down the wire harness far enough to where you can expose the (6) wires attached to it. BEFORE you pull off any wires please make a quick hand drawn wiring diagram as to where the (6) wires go... Note: Relay A can be used in place of relay B and relay B can be used in place of relay A. They are interchangeable even though they have a different part number. They are color coded and that is the only reason for the different part number between them.. Edit: Sam, With the tests you have been doing so far, I do not feel your problem is either one of the starter relays.. I really feel it is just stuck in reverse... I would be rocking that trike back and forth vigorously with the key on, hitting the reverse switch then the starter switch working back and forth on the switches as I rocked the trike (vigorously), and having clutch lever pulled in at all times. If this does not work I would be looking at a dealer for help from here. -

Sam, You sent me an email stating you have to pull on wires to see the relays..I sent you a quick reply stating same as here (see below). STOP.. dont pull on any wires...there should be NO need to pull on any wire. If you pull on the wires you have a darn good chance of pulling the wires off the relay and I have NO idea how they go back on with out looking at it before the wires come off to make a hand diagram. BEFORE you go any farther, please try this: I need someone to sit on the trike, pull in on clutch lever and hold it in, turn the key to the on position, reverse lightg should be blinking...now push IN on the reverse switch and see if it will go into reverse, you may hear a click ( I hope so anyway).. the reverse light should stop flashing but remain on. (the light stops flashing). IF the reverse light does stop flashing, push in on reverse switch again to take it out of reverse. The reverse ligth should go out and then you should be able to start the bike and then move shifter up or down. Please let me know how this works before you do any electrical investigating / disassembly. -

I will send in my pics when it stops raining... I have my Avalanche all waxed up and sitting in the garage, and I don't want to open the garage door to get to the parts and take pics..(Tomorrow maybe). Don't forget @DragonRider, I will gladly help you post and or keep track of any items submitted for auction.
