Touring to me is as some have mentioned above.. Getting on my wing and taking off.. I may have a direction in mind, but no actual destination to get to at a certain time. Only time concerned with is being off the road that day before sundown, and that is where some pre-planning comes in where I have already looked for motels and towns prior to starting up the bike that morning in the direction I had in mind. I could travel 100 miles or 300 miles and be satisfied for that day's ride, because I stopped to smell the roses, I sat on a bench and talked with a stranger, I ate at some mom & pops place that most would never even look twice at, or I sat on a rivers edge tossing rocks in the water for a while, relaxed with no pressure to be somewhere, just enjoying mother nature at it's best. I have found that back roads are the best roads when touring, doing what I can to stay off all super slabs. When I come to a "T" in the rode, I just pic a right or left turn. WHO CARES....A lot of times my GPS is turned off. As the day passes I will turn the GPS on to see where I may be at, pic a direction, and turn it off again. After one takes two or three tours on a motorcycle he will know what he needs and why. Many times I carry items that I will never need, but I have found that when I do use a item to help another, I gained a friend. One who may stay in touch with me or one that might just make mention of me during a conversation with another biker. Hopefully that mention is a good one. If I can see or learn about a place or person, I have toured that day.

RSV 2006 squeaky rear .....
Eck replied to Mad Dog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Bounce the bike up and down and see if it squeaks. If it does, lay on passenger side of bike with bike on side stand (or center stand if you have one) and look at the bottom of the rear shock. There is a rubber boot. Using your finger, wipe around the bottom of the boot and see if you see any signs of oil. Carefully lift up on the bottom of the boot to see if you see any oil. If oil is present you need to replace the shock. If no signs of oil can be found, you can try just spraying lubricant on the rubber shock mounting bushings to see if you can work it out. However, if the squeak sound appears when you just "manually" roll (push) the bike forward and aft then read the below tech article. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13263 If you need help give me a ring or email me. My phone number is in my profile. Eck -

Larry, I didn't know you damaged your bike at Vogel. Man I'm sorry to hear that. You did an excellent job of design, build and install on the skid plate though. I have a bottom protection plate on my GW too.

Passing lites' mount hex nuts
Eck replied to bill4you502's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep, that happened to me one time. Shame on the mess.. I drilled mine out.. slowly and carefully and lots of patients!! You carefully drill the head off the shank and then remove the head light assembly The you carefully drill the shank out. I drilled a hole completely thru the shank and then used an easy-out tap to remove it Then I re-tapped (chased) the threads to clean them up. Ace hardware sells Stainless steel Allen head bolts and that is what I reinstalled in place of stock bolts. As for the spacer between headlights and bracket, there was a drawing on the site on how to make them. I will look in my files and post it in a minute if I can find it. Edited to add the below info: I am sending you an email with the mans name and email address that you can contact to see if he is still in the business of making and selling the light brackets. Here are a couple pics of the bracket that he used to make. Im not certain he still does though. -
I have a set of sheep skin seat covers that fit the GW 1800 operator and passenger seats which are white in color that I will sell you if interested. They can easily be cut with a pair of scissors to shape to your seats

No quite Joe... (since my yard isn't big enough) Well every storm shelter that gets installed (here in Alabama anyway) also gets registered and after a tornado the local fire departments know where to go look for survivors / people.. In our case, as seen by the photos, there are no trees around (however one could blow in on us I guess), but so could a house or a car... I will also have a jack inside so that I can jack the door open if I have to. With the emergency kit we are putting together, we should be able to live in it for 4 to 5 days if we really needed to however I don't want to be in it any more than five minutes after the storm passes..

I mounted a map of the united states on my garage wall, and had a yellow marker hanging by a string along side it. Every time I got back home for any ride, I would mark the roads I took.. Wasn't long and I had this map with a huge yellow circle around the northern Alabama/ southern Tn area.. The map ended up looking like heck every time I opened the garage door, so I took it down and threw it away..
