It sounds as if you accidently broke off the center locking tab that is part of the chrome strip. When removing the chrome piece from the fairing, the little tabs are EASILY broken off. I remember when I broke mine and know of many who broke theirs. You can place a 2 inch strip of two way sticky tape under the chrome piece in the area where the tab is broken to hold it on place. Or you can put a piece of sticky substance (similar in nature to gum) that would be shapeable and sticky enough to hold the chrome strip on. Now I'm not saying to use gum here...but something like a small bead of clear calk just in the area it is broken and it should hold it. don't use the calk around the whole piece of trim or you wont get it off in one piece..

Today is our annual Venturerider "In Memory Of" ride day, where each of us take a ride or moment of silence, in memory of a VR family member or a loved one that we have lost along life's path. I ask as you ride pondering treasured memories to please remember that you are on the road and to please ride safe. Keep track of where you rode, places you stopped at, and take photos. Feel free to post your days ride here in this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/modules/memorials/index.php

Cool beans!!!!!!!!!!!! Good thinking on your part for sure.. That was cheap enough..... Now you can use the money you saved for FUEL...

Glad to hear your back in the saddle Gary. Recovery doesn't happen too quickly on the knees.. It took my wife over a year to get what she said even feels comfortable. Even now and then she still has some pain once in a while.. Not passing on bad vibes here just letting you know. It could ,(and I hope is), be different in your case.

Before you sign the papers to release your bike from the dealer (after they say its fixed), I would get on the ground on passenger side and look at the rear shock for oil leaks to ensure the rear shock didn't bottom out and blow the seal... let them prove it didn't happen in the accident. However, this would be just as challenging for you to prove it wasn't blown before you brought it in., BUT....you could tell them you checked it before you rode it because you washed it all up and when you down there were cleaning the rear rim you checked it for leaks..and there was no signs of oil on it..........

Steve, I am so glad your OK. It could have been much worse as you said, and know. Take care of those new tats ensuring they do not become infected. Maybe some others who have a bike like yours would have a few spare parts they can pass on to you to help you get yours back on the road. Here's to wishing you a speedy "full" recovery. One more thing I would like to say and this is only "my opinion" so take it with a grain of salt... Leather is OK.. it does protect....somewhat,...but it to tears and your right back to that tattoo monster called pavement. You might think more in line of protective gear that contains armor protection inserts on elbows, knees and back areas.

Lewis, I know you and Charlene have traveled a long hard road to get to where your at. All the medical challenges that you two have faced would be enough for anyone one. GOD bless you both. The only advice I can give you is the following: As the next years come forward, learn to go potty with toilet seat in the down position.. you wont "miss" near as much... Think twice before you react for your not near as strong as you used to be Don't listen to Dr Phill...find "something" to do Have Charlene hide the snacks... Arrange the end table near your recliner with everything you need to avoid many trips up and down..(Kleenex, Q-tips, trash can, tweezers, extra batteries for the remote, the remote, channel guide, small pair of scissors, straight pin, telephone list, plug in that lap top as close as you can...and don't forget those glasses. Don't cut grass on steep hills in a riding mower... Oh, and do NOT wash your cell phone............ To avoid unnecessary trips and irritable interruptions, when you do get up out of that recliner, make sure: You take the trash out - if needed Do up those couple dishes in the sink Sweep up any noticeable debris Run the vacuum twice a week Grab another cold one on the way back to the recliner.. I wish you two a good health for your retirement. If you both have good health, the rest of retirement will become a natural enjoyable occurrence. If you head west, or on your return trip east, you always have a home in Huntsville. One more thing to ponder here Lewis. I found this and thought it may be of help at this time in your life... When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar ... and the beer. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor next picked up a box of small pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They again agreed it was full. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full The students responded with a unanimous "YES". The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now", said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. "The golf balls are the truly important things --- your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. "The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, your house, your car. "The sand is everything else -- the small stuff." "If you put in the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there will be no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you." "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house or fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, and the things that truly matter. Set your priorities. "The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life might seem, there is always room for a couple of beers

So glad your able to tell us about it....Glad you are OK!!!!! -
Well, not exactly, but had my day of fun on my john Deere riding mower today..It didnt end up in a pond........Ha..but ended up on me.. I was cutting grass with my John Deere lawn tractor today. Drove it up the steep angled hill to the storm shelter door, stopped, put it in reverse to back straight down, and guess what.. no brakes....I couldn't believe how fast that dang thing started going backwards and knowing the neighbors wooden fence is fast approaching, I had no choice but to turn the wheel. That's all she wrote as the tractor rolled over on me.. next thing I know I'm seeing stars from my head hitting the ground and Im about to pass out. Seeing stars at 9:30am in Alabama time, I knew I was in a pickle..but luckily I didnt go out completely. My back and neck are both now in sever pain and I realize I have all this weight on me and it didn't take long to figure out that I'm under the mower. Thank God John Deere has a safety switch on the seat that shut the mower off when my butt left the seat.. I couldn't yell for all the pain I was in, but was able to somehow push upward on the mower with my left foot and pulled my right foot out of my tennis shoe and my leg out from underneath the mower. I'm free, but the pain is coming on strong now. I had to slowly crawl on my hands and knees up to the house nearly passing out 4 times. Each time I just laid down in the yard as stars were lighting up my sky.. When I got to the back porch, I sat down in the lawn chair. Weak as I could be and dizzy as all get out. I reached over and banged on the door and my wife finally opens the door where I then told her I need help. I was able to get into our Avalanche and off she drove me to the hospital. No sooner left the house and I realized we should have taken an ambulance. Sitting up was not good..So next they bring a hospital bed outside to the truck and lay me on it. After some questions and starting an IV, I'm off to get an MRI. Results showed nothing was broke. They gave me 3 milligrams of Dilaudid pain medicine in my IV. I asked the Dr what the stuff was, and he said a pain sedative and that Dilaudid is 7 times more powerful than Morpheen, so after getting say, 21 mil-grams of Morpheen I had no pain.. I have been sleeping most all day since I got back home from hospital.. Filled a script for more pain killers and Muscle relaxers. You an bet your last buck that I will never cut that hill on the riding mower again. Never... I was in so much pain I really thought I broke my back. and my neck. Dr said I will be very sore for a little while but should be OK..... I just took a muscle relaxer so I will be back in bed soon......

Next time ask her to excuse you for being in her way ............. Glad your OK and all you got were a few flat spots on those sneakers......

So what are you building...mini condo's for midgets?

OUCH............Bet you think twice from now on about throwing something.. Years ago (1972) I was installing a new tire on a rim for a guy at the service station I worked at.. I found out you never want to put air in a tire when your fingers are inside the bead edge of the tire and rim...felt like it took 10 minutes for the air to get out of the tire enough where we could break the bead again to let my fingers out. I could tell even hours later that my heart was working....thump, thump, thump..

Yep. what he said!!!! Ccleaner is free and works great..this is what I use..
