From the album: Ecks 1973 AURANTHETIC CHARGER
-
Auranthetic Chargers were based on a bike used by Gemini which was built in Taiwan. What I have read is Auranthetic, a California based company, ordered the mini bikes without engines and modified them to their specs to be 100% electric mini bikes. Production only lasted short of 2 years and only a few thousand were produced. The conversion from the gas motor to the electric motor included 1hp series wound industrial motors and (2) 12V deep cycle batteries which gave them around 30MPH for about 50 miles. Auranthetic Corp used turn signals manufactured in Japan by Stanely. These were also used on various Honda CB motorbikes in the 70's. Aurnathetics came with amber lenses front and back (no red lenses). The early (1973) Auranthetics had a seamed tank and the later ones (1974)used a Bosch motor and a few other things were different.

I may be in need of a steel swing arm bushing for the mini bike I am restoring. I may not need them, but not sure at this time. When I get ready to re-install the swing arm I will know for certain... If I do need them, I will contact you and provide the length, ID & OD dimensions and you can give me a price on them including shipping to the state of Alabama (Zip code = 35824). Eck

Here we go again............. Copied from site rules page: Many people have very strong political opinions, including me. Again, there are a lot of places on the Internet to discuss politics and I've never seen any good from mixing politics with motorcycle discussion. What starts off as a rational discussion always seems to turn into a heated debate and it usually gets personal before it ends. All of the same things can be said for religious discussions. Rule #2 would be that politics and religion are two subjects that will not be tolerated.

Well, I finished the seat rebuild. It may not be perfect, but being the very first time I ever tore a seat apart, it didn't turn out to bad I don't think. I also started applying the first coat of paint on some of the parts..

BUMP............. Many have still not done this. Please, go edit the map. If you have not done so by now, please go to the Member Map section and update the map by placing the marker as to where you live. You don't have to place the marker on your exact address if you don't want to, but at minimum it would be nice to place the marker in the city/ town you live in. When setting up Meet & Eats, Mini rallies and or the annual International rally, it sure makes it easier to pull up a state (or neighboring states), and see what area would be a good "center location" to make it fair for everyone to attend. If you need help call me and I will walk you through it. My phone number is in my profile. Thanks Eck

The bottom of the seat pan is still painted original black and it was not effected by the suspected chemical damage. Whatever it was that caused this melting change in the foam, it did NOT effect the underneath side (or top side) of the leather seat cover at all. In fact, it still looks like new for being as old as it is. So with no chemical damage to bottom side of seat pan, or seat cover leaves me wondering if someone at some point in time, didn't take the seat apart for some reason and then used a spray glue of some type to help hold the foam in place? It appears to be the original seat foam cushion. I have no idea what caused the damage. Heck, Im only guessing.

Photo cropped or real paint job? What is your guess? I would think it is photo cropped myself, but then again it may be one heck of a paint job on all that tupperware.

Yea, I'm trying cowpuc... It takes time and effort I must say..Little by little its getting cleaner and each part is looking better. Just wish it wasn't going to rain this week. That is holding me off on painting the frame, forks, swing arm and rear shocks.. Here are a few more pics on some of the electrical cleanup..

This is the seat off my Auranthetic Charger electric mini bike. I decided to tackle the rebuild of it since I can not paint due to rain... I have never seen seat foam do this before. It was hard, crystalized, and gooey in several places. I used a hammer and flat blade screwdriver to remove the stuff from the seat pan, then used a pocket knife and scraped the stuff off rubber edge guard (that was a long process / job but worth it in the end). The pics are not in correct order, but you can tell the before and after pics. After I got it stripped down, I spray painted the top of the seat with a bumper undercoating which should protect it from ever rusting up again if the bike is ever left out in the rain. I do plan on painting the entire seat pan black before I reassemble it with new foam and original leather seat cover. Thanks for looking! Eck

Try to wedge a flat head screwdriver between the head of the bolt and the flat washer beneath it. Take a box end wrench that fits the bolt head and while turning the bolt, pry upward with the screwdriver to see if the bolt will come upward and out as you turn it. If you cant pry upward with a screwdriver, you can pull upward on the aft end of the gas tank as you turn the bolt too.. If neither option works, I hate to say it but you may have to cut the head of the bolt off, then remove the tank to avoid any damage to it, then you will have better access on getting the bolt out. You can get a replacement bolt easily at ACE hardware......

Sure am glad I graduated years ago......Things they teach now a days is a lot harder...like when was the last time you solved exponential and radical expressions and equations, using scientific notation and significant figures. Yea man, as if that was something I was going to use or need all my life... Still cant understand why we had to learn it though..

Anybody ever use this jack? (Duralast/Autozone $69.99 online)
Eck replied to pbjman's topic in Watering Hole
I have never used one from AutoZone, but it appears to be a fair built lift no worse than one from Harbor Freight.. I bet it has a good warranty too being its from auto zone -

QUOTE=JDaniel;874779]Eck I have seen online where they have had issues with trunk lids cracking. I am going to hold off on installing the trunk rack. May return it and purchase molding lights for the trunk instead. That is why I wanted to caution you on it. I have one on my wing. My trunk lid cracked around one of the mounts. I used my rack as a trunk lid handle...dumb.. If you do not think you will use the rack, I would take it back. Now for the molding lights: Another word of caution... Keep reading about the wings and you will see that many of those have burnt out a light here or there and you can not replace the burnt out light bulbs in them...Once a light bulb burns out, that is the way it is. I have seen many wings with burnt out molding lights. The Kury lights are the most common to burn out from what I have read. I myself was going to install the same molding lights but decided not to because of this. The only accessories I have on my wing are: Foot rests/pegs, back rest with pouch, belly pan, arm rests, trailer hitch, extra fuse box under seat, MP3 player in trunk, 12 volt plug to charge cell phone and charge battery in left rear glove box and padded & beaded seat covers. And a set of my Eck-stend-a-grips.. I have looked at many accessories but I really don't need or want anything else for my wing but more gas, tires and several more oil & filter changes.....

Not trying to "egg you on" any but this is what my 05 liquid silver looked like. I really loved that bike...I still have the cooler & rack too. It goes on my wing now.

To each his own they say. Some things just need to be given a chance, and a little adjustment here and there before one can really make a sound decision. As for me and my Goldwing, we fit well together. At first now I wasn't sure if I really liked it either. However, after a week in the saddle and a few adjustments it gave me the feeling and confidence I have been looking for. I see my wing and I together for many more miles. 5' 8" with 32 inseam, and I have no problem standing flat footed at red lights.
