Was cleaning and waxing the bike and noticed the lower cowl on left lower side was split in half. Luckily, I have another cowl but it needs to be painted. So being the weather is not right to paint (yet), I just drilled 4 holes, two holes on each side of the break, and I used two plastic wire ties to hold it together until I do get a chance to paint the lower replacement cowl and swap them out.. I see no signs of running over anything or any place of impact that could have caused it to break in half.. 1st time I ever seen or heard of this on a GW.. See, Harleys are not the only bikes that need a little help now and then..

For those of you with a GW1800, if you ever remove the shelter to perform any kind of maintenance (like replacing the air filter or such), I highly recommend that you take a pair of pliers and carefully flatten / crimp the metal tip of the antenna coax cable (just flatten it a little now...) and then insert it into the back of the radio so that it pushes into the radio firmly.. My radio quit and for some reason my antenna coax cable just slipped out of the back of the radio. It has been OK for the past 4 years. I have not had the shelter off for at least that many years. All of a sudden, no radio, and come to find out my coax fell out of the radio.. I had to pull the shelter to re-install it so I flattened the tip of the coax just a little bit to help hold it in place.

[quote=Venturous Randy;Hey, it's the lots of fluid and chicken noodle soup that is making the snot(it even looks a little like chicken noodle soup). Thanks Randy... I needed that.......I switched to Cheerios...

We have eaten bowls of chicken noodle soup (with the noodles)..Been drinking lots of water...and I always chew ice.. Got up this morning and was beginning to feel a little better, but it is slowly creeping back up on me once again.. My body is beginning to ache all over and nose is starting to run.. Man, where does all this liquid come from up in there? Been plugging my nose with Kleenex and it just soaks it up by the quarts..unreal.. Going for a ride Bill sounds like fun, but I know I don't have the strength to hold that thing up...

The wife and I both have been down since last Thursday with this nasty bug. She is still feeling pretty bad, laying in bed, and taking meds. This morning, (Tues), I woke up feeling a lot better but still not out of the water yet from this bug. This is some nasty stuff... runny nose that just wont stop no matter what type of medicine we have tried, body is very sore and pain everywhere, lots of pressure behind eyes and in head, eyes watering constantly, sneezing every 10 minutes, coughing off and on all day & night..no energy at all.. I hope no one that reads this catches it..( I did not include it in my post....)..

Congrats SilverT!!! My wife is older than I too... after 20 years it doesn't make a bit of difference. Here is to wishing you many more years to grow with your mate.. Eck

They didn't....I ran upon the helmet recall on the intranet. After reading it, I went out and looked at the dates in the two helmets I had and wha-lah, the numbers matched, so "I" called them and told them I have two helmets.. The rest is history.

I retired at the end of 2013 at 62, and soon to be 64 next month. I decided to go ahead and apply for my SS benefits at 63. The extra money is great and I could have waited to 65 to get my full retirement dollars, but I figured I better get my name was in the hat before it isn't there..(no further discussion needed on this subject)... I was doing great at the beginning of my retirement, but by February 2014 I was getting antsy sitting in the house all the time because of the winter cold. Had to wait until end of March beginning of April to get outside and spent a lot of time doing things around the house that I could not do since we lived in other states during my employment. I did ride more that I ever did, and even had a trip out west planned. Found out my son and his wife were coming over from Australia, so I cancelled the trip out west because of obvious reasons. After three weeks they returned to Australia. Next thing I know I rolled my John Deer Trackto over on me and was in bed for about three weeks, and after all this time passed, Im still sore today from it. Damaged some nerves in my right back/ hip area. Anyway, I did jump on the bike now and then when I felt I could handle it and then this passing winter was just approaching. This winter has been very unusual as we all know, so for the past few months I once again have been sitting in the house doing not much of anything, board to death. I do take every chance I can to get out and ride as some have seen my pictures posted of my rides, but man I cant wait to get out and ride this year.. I have heard a road has two ends and I want to find them both..

Yep, she even mentioned that it was 10 yrs old...I told her (which is true) that I bought one for me and one for my wife at the same time, same place at the YAMAHA dealer in Cullman, Al the same day I bought my 05 RSV. As most everyone here knows, my wife's has only rode with me three or four times and the helmet has been sitting on a shelf in the helmet bag all these years.. Mine on the other hand was used a lot more, but I most always were my half helmet. I would always take the flip/full face helmet with me on trips and only used it if I was caught in the rain so it had some use, but it was never worn on every ride I went on. She told me she didn't care if it was used every day or if it sat on a shelf, but asked me to return them both so that they could destroy them and send me replacements. Pretty darn nice of them I must say. Customer service that I was used to back in the day... I posted this recall just in case others here have the same type of helmet so they could exchange theirs too. Eck

I don't believe it. Something went right for a change my way.. I just got off the phone with Fulmer helmets and my wife's helmet and mine both have been recalled... They were so nice. She (Nicki) asked me to read the dates shown on the inside of the helmet, and then she said let me get you a Return Authorization number. Just box them up and ship them back to us and we will destroy those and send you two brand new ones.. Only problem I ran into is they do not make the XXXL size any more in the silver color and they only make the XXXL in black.. So I will be getting two new black helmets.. Here is the info: January, 2007 Dear Fulmer Helmet Owner: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Subject: Helmet Recall Reason For This Recall Fulmer Helmets has decided that certain sizes of Fulmer AF-M Modus and SN-M Snow helmets failed to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.” The helmets affected are only the XL, XXL and XXXL AF-M Modus and the XL, XXL, XXXL SN-M Snow produced between November 2001 and April 2006. There is a manufacturer date under the helmet comfort liner that should be checked. Consequences: In the event of a crash, the helmet may not provide adequate protection to the wearer, possibly resulting in injuries. Compliance: The problem has been corrected on all Fulmer AF-M and SN-M helmets made after April 2006 and these newer helmets are in compliance with all Federal requirements. Rider safety is our top concern and Fulmer is cooperating fully with the NHTSA. What Helmet Owners Should Do If you own an XL, XXL or XXXL size, check the manufacturer date under the comfort liner inside the helmet to see if the date is between November 2001 and April 2006. If you have an affected helmet, call Fulmer Helmets at 1-800-489-2300 Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30PM CST. One of our customer service representatives will instruct you how to receive a new helmet. What Fulmer Will Do Fulmer will send you a UPS “call tag” to pick up your helmet at no cost to you after you package it. When we receive your helmet, we will replace your non-compliant helmet with a compliant helmet of the same size and model at no cost to you. We apologize for this inconvenience but wearer safety is our first concern and we want you to have a safe ride. If you have any problems with replacement of your helmet you can contact the NTSA at the address below. Administrator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 400 Seventh Street, SW Washington, DC 20590 Or call toll-free the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. I am a firm believer of following your heart. If you remember, it was your heart that led you to your beautiful wife in the first place. That act in itself should provide you with all the trust you will ever need with believing what your heart is telling you. Eck -

AMEN.. The BRP is a very nice ride if you try to plan your vacation during nice weather...Hard to do if planning 7 days, but it can be done. I have rode this route three times in my life, twice in a cage and once on my bike, and never had a bad trip. As far as motels and restaurants.. There is always an exit that you can get off of and go about 10 miles to a town to eat, sleep and fill up the cage or bike. Click here to see the list of all the motels and restaurants...Then print it out and have your wife give it to her friends.. Yea, I committed to driving my wife to Chicago instead of her flying... I will need some meds I'm sure driving in that place.. I already looked at Google maps to see how far you are away from the motel. I can meet you (and who ever else wants to join us) some place half way between us or I can meet you at the Final Approach, 4959 South Howell Avenue, Milwaukee, WI. Does not matter to me.
