I have had problems with my rear brake dragging and locking up. Decided to purchase the rear master cylinder and install it myself instead of having to leave my bike at the Honda dealer for a couple weeks for them to do it under the open recall they have on all Goldwings. Price of the new rear master cylinder including shipping was $58.86 = one day job!! Not a real hard job at all. Disassembly was easier than reassembly I can tell you. I di-sected the old stock rear master cylinder and found the piston to be out of spec in diameter by 0.003' to 0.005". and I can see many signs of wear/ chaffing in the bore and on the piston. I also learned a few tricks to install the new assembly due to a lack of space between the frame and a lower water return hose. One Example: The "angle" of the brake rod that goes thru the frame to the brake peddle/arm does not want to line up with the hole in the frame during reinstall. I had to use a wire bent in a hook shape and hook the wire under the end brake rod and then pull upward on it to align it with hole in frame as I was also using a screwdriver to push the rod into and thru the frame. No space for your finger or hand to get in there at all.. Another example was trying to reattach the return spring. A small task but again, but I learned you must tie a string to the small spring BEFORE you attempt to install it or it will end up in lah-lah land under the engine somewhere. I was able to use a magnet to find mine and pull it back out luckily. If anyone attempts to remove the stock rear master cylinder and install a new rear master cylinder feel free to contact me for help. I can now stop on a dime and give you nine and a half cents in change.. WOW do my brakes work great... I am really satisfied.

That is the best looking bike I have seen in a long time!!! Very nice work! -
If no one is behind me I do not apply the brakes. I will just coast and down shift slowing down until (or if) I need to apply the brakes. If someone IS behind me, I put out my left hand (stopping signal) AND I tap the rear brake for my lights to flash. I slow down WAY before the intersection or vehicle in front of me and watch in mirror to ensure the vehicle behind me is slowing down. Once I am at a crawl, I will ease my way up to the vehicle in front of me staying to the left side of my lane for a way out in case the vehicle behind me decides it doesn't want to come to a complete stop, but at least it will be at a crawling pace, which gives me time to make my safe exit pulling along side the vehicle in front of me..

Well Puc, first off let me wish you a GREAT Birthday. I certainly do hope you enjoyed your day and made another memory or two with your lovely wife and having fun. Secondly, I wish you the best in your health challenges ahead. Lastly, I strongly agree with you in taking time to make a living, and never forgetting to take time to live. Over the years, I passed up many an opportunity to live a life of fun and adventures by working my butt off. I worked every holiday I could, every birthday, and all the overtime I could get. One time (for 6 months), I worked 96 to 112 hrs a week to where I didn't know who I was and told them what to do with the job and walked out. Being married I hardly ever saw my wife or any of the kids or grandkids. Lost so much time where I could have had fun and making those great memories to share. I quit smoking years ago and I now have Emphysema. Other than trying to breathe all the time, I have been blessed with great health (where it needed to be), to support my overly worked butt. All those years that went by all I had to do was say no, I don't want to work this weekend or this holiday but I never did that. I always offered to work so others could go home and play. Things have changed now that I retired. I am playing every day I can. Many have seen the rides I posted with the pics I have taken. Working all that over time paid off in my case for I am living that retirement dream that many may not be able to. Sad thing is, I missed out on SO many things with our kids and our grandkids. Heck, they are all grown up, and all they know is I'm pops. They know very little about me. They have very few fond memories of me with them to cherish for I worked instead of being there when they were growing up. Heck, we just became GREAT grand parents 4 months ago..Yes, Great grand parents already. I missed out on having fun with my all my grand children. SO folks, as Puc is trying so hard to tell you, take time to play, please do that. Don't end up like me with an empty bank of memories. Make all the memories you can now with your loved ones and do take time to enjoy life so that when you are our age, you can open up a FULL bank of great memories and carry a big smile. -
SO now that you spent all that time and money on the RSV, I just have to ask if you ever got that old mower running yet....? .....

Great choice! Hope you both have many safe miles ahead on it. I have eaten at that Shellhouse many times. Looked out the window at the Harley shop too, but never went in it because I too would probably walk out with the same drooling on my face..

The manager gave me $50.00 off provided I buy them that day, so I did or it would have been a little over 1k for them. Tell you what though, that thing rides so nice now and quiet.. Planning our next trip to Greenville, NC in about two weeks or so...

Yea,,, I thought of that after I posted above. Truthfully though, They broke the tire down for me, I installed the beads right then, and he picked up the tire and carried it to my truck. When I closed the tail gate he said There you go. I asked: How much, he said nothing, just come back when you need tires. I said, well, I was telling my wife we are going to need new tires real soon on this thing so lets go inside and see what it will cost.. It was my idea to buy them and after spending $965.68 for four tires, I wanted out of there...

You two have been surely blessed...Congrats to both of you!!

Finally got around to removing the wheels and installing glass beads in my tires today. ( Thanks a bunch Masterguns).. I was able to break the tire bead from the rim on the front wheel using a 2 x 4 and a 1 x 2 and the trailer hitch of my avalanche. It looks a whole lot easier to do on you tube than it is in real life.. ha... but I did it. There was no way I could break the tire bead from the rim on the rear wheel because I have a CT on it.. Had to take it to a tire shop and they didn't charge me a thing to break the bead for me... So while I was there I purchase 4 brand new 20 inch Michelin tires for my Avalanche..:

Solderless Connectors
Eck replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don, As already suggested above, you would be better off to get a soldering iron, solder and shrink tubing from harbor freight and solder the wires on your ride. You mentioned you do not solder. Do a search on the Youtube videos to see how to solder. Practice with a few wires on the bench first before you solder your bike wires. The key to soldering is wires must be clean, soldering iron must be HOT, so leave it plugged in for 3 to 5 minutes before soldering any wire. Make darn sure the tip of the soldering iron is clean. You can lay a piece of sand paper on the bench and rub the tip back and forth on it while turning the soldering iron side to side to get the whole tip clean. I sent you a good you tube link on how to solder wires. Any questions give me a call. 256 - four two nine- 86 two three -

While here in Chicago at a miniatures trade show with my wife, I was standing in an isle and all of a sudden there is Princess Ameerah Al Taweel and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. As I stepped off to the side of the isle, so that they could pass by me, they both looked at me, nodded, and said Hello, thank you. I said hello and you are most welcome back to them. Later on last night my wife and I went to a miniature auction, and again both royalty were there with a two body guards, two others, and someone using a video camera. Every time the Sheikh raised his paddle to bid on something, the camera was rolling. One miniature that was smaller than a dime he won the ending bid for $2,000.00 As the auction went on, it didn't take long to realize that if he raised his paddle on an item, you surely would not be able to outbid him. One lady kept bidding on an item against him. They both just held their paddles in the air and the auctioneer just looked back and forth at them as she kept raising the bid. Everyone was grinning including the Sheikh. All of a sudden, someone from the table that he was sitting at got up and walked over to the sheikh and whispered something to him and he immediately dropped his paddle. The auctioneer asked if he was still in. He said she can have it. Everyone laughed. Come to find out the lady bidding against the sheikh made that piece and she was trying to raise the price on her own stuff, so the sheikh would pay much more.. She ended up getting stuck having to pay for the item that she made...He stuck it to her good..ha
