  1. Congrats on the new ride!! Very nice indeed !!!! Not trying to imply that I know everything about them, but if I can be of any help with questions on it feel free to contact me. One day you can see me in your mirror as we ride down the road together.
  2. Not sure what type of oil filter wrench you have, but I have always been able to remove any oil filter using a rubber strap wrench. The harder you push on it the tighter it gets, provided the oil filter is clean on exterior surface. Out of the two wrenches shown in this link, I have never had to use the larger one. $5.00 at Harbor Freight- http://www.harborfreight.com/2-pc-rubber-strap-wrench-set-69373.html
  3. I created a folder of "Rides by State" and inside that folder I have folders for every state. Every time someone posts a memorable ride that they went on, I copy it and add it to that state folder. This will help me when I get to ride in state.....so keep them coming
  4. In time, if he doesn't get another offer that is above yours, he may end up calling you back if he really wants to sell it..
  5. Hate to hear this. Prayers sent. Hope you are healing well Angel. (This thread has been moved from the watering hole to the prayer request section)
  6. Sounds like he really doesn't want to sell it.. I wish mine had the corvette engine in it but it has the small v8. It would strain like heck to pull an enclosed trailer, but I don't have a need to pull anything with it so its fine for us especially on LONG rides.. Very comfortable and roomy!! I really like ours.
  7. What...no Avalanche?
  8. Brakepad@, Next time, give me a shout and lunch is on me..!!
  9. This was my first thought also as I was reading his problem...
  10. First off, I am glad to hear you are ok and that no accident occurred causing you (or anyone else) harm. Second, As I was reading every post in this thread I was getting ready to post my own thoughts of not getting a used motor and asking if the dealer could come up with a swap/trade deal even if he had to contact other Yamaha dealers to see what they had on the floor. I see now you already did a swap and your new ride looks really nice. I think you will like it more than you did your white RSTD by far, (especially if/when riding in the rain). Again, glad you are OK bkn..
  11. You were about 12 - 15 miles from my house.. I have been on every road marked on your map.
  12. Dan, Keep doing what your doing as already mentioned. Prayer works, even for the guy that was going to beat the heck out of your left fist with is right jaw..... (I moved this thread from the watering hole to the inspirational, Motivational, Prayer requests,, etc section)
  13. Slowrollwv, I have come to find that out over the last 8 years. Every year my best friend and I take a good 5 day to 15 day ride through as many roads as we can find in WV and into VA. We plan on going back again this year sometime too.. Dan, you can pull out of the garage now............ Beautiful!!!!!! I just added HWY-50 just outside of Salida to my list of Colorado rides..
  14. Here is mine. A little history first: One day while attending the VR.Org international rally in Ft. Collins, Co., three of us decided to go on an adventure ride. There was, who many here remember, Lowell (The Ambassador / Wild hair), Dave (Swifty), and I. On this day, Lowell said he would lead since he had a new Lowrance GPS unit. I was the tail gunner. Off we went. After about 40 miles we notice the lines on the pavement stopped but we were still on pavement.. then the pavement stopped but we were on a tar & chipped stone packed road..All of a sudden, Lowell stops Dave pulls on one side of Lowell and I pull up on the opposite side of Lowell. The road ahead is nothing but dirt. Dry dirt. Lowell says: I don't know guys, but my GPS says it is a through road. Dave said, lets go for it. Im looking at my super clean RSV and thinking your kidding me. Lowell takes off, Dave pulls out behind him and the dust is flying. I sat wondering should I or should I not.. I down shifted and into the dust cloud I went following along. Dave drops back from Lowell because he could not see due to the dust cloud, I drop father back for same reason, and I am so far back now that I don't see Dave or Lowell but there is absolutely no place to turn around so I kept going. What a beautiful view I see coming up, and as I go around the corner another view outdoes the last one. I have never ridden a challenging road such as this and I am not so sure I would ever do it again. It was very dangerous for we were not on the type of bike needed for such a road. Luckily, we made it and when we returned to the VFW in Ft. Collins to meet up with everyone else later on that day, someone came up to me and asked: So Eck, where did you guys ride to today? I said man I couldn't tell you where we were but we ended up on some old dirt road that was unreal. Old gold mining town we passed through. Many times I had to walk my bike around hairpin turns as I read my license plate and at same time almost looking straight down over the edge of the mountain. No guard rails or anything to stop you from going over the edge. I'm just glad my brakes worked. He said I know right where you were and I have been on that road myself. They call it "OH-MY-GOD-ROAD" ,,and that folks, is all I said the whole time I was on it was Oh my God..Oh my God.. This is the road we went on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hQiLu2MJzc
  15. I joined back in 05, went through the site crash were everything was lost, as many others back then did, and we all thought "OH NO"....but thanks to Don's determination it was back up and running in no time. You have done a great job with this site Don and you should be damn proud of your self and accomplishments with it over the years. Because of your dreams and constant efforts to succeed, you have made it possible for strangers to become life long friends. I have made many friends here, and a few didn't work out for whatever reasons, but such is the same in the employment world, some like you and you get along and some don't like you...so be it. I have met many life long friends here since 05 and we still communicate and some years we still meet up and go for a ride, have a bite to eat and enjoy the time. Others I have posted with here for years and still have not had the opportunity to meet up with yet and still hope someday our roads cross paths. Every morning, I get my cup of coffee, sit down and read emails, then I'm here checking out what is new at VR.Org. I cant wait to have my morning coffee and I cant wait to get on VR.Org. I have lived like this since I joined and it is an every day occurrence even if I am out on a long week ride traveling, I take VR.Org with me. I hope to meet up with all the new members one day too, but until then I ask that you all ride safe!...
  16. I wonder how many other Venture riders are having the same issue because of the same cause??? This is good tech article information and should be written up with some pictures for others to check out on their bikes who have this problem with backfiring and the smell of gasoline.
  17. George, I have no idea what it is. Other info: I can not see a darn thing on my cheap cell phone so any pictures you send to my cell phone is a lost cause.. They are way to small fro me to see.
  18. I see an Avalanche in the driveway......hooked to a boat...and the driver smiling...
  19. If I'm not mistaking here, the 8.1 big block is the corvette engine. Wish mine had it..I am happy with mine for what I use it for though. I don't pull a trailer and if I do it is a flat U-Haul to haul my wing if Konnie and I want to go someplace far from home. It pulls the motorcycle trailer ok, but I would not want to pull an enclosed trailer with it, (very far anyway). If you need tires, I have two with lots of tread on them - size 20"
  20. Congrats on ya
  21. I have had problems with my rear brake dragging and locking up. Decided to purchase the rear master cylinder and install it myself instead of having to leave my bike at the Honda dealer for a couple weeks for them to do it under the open recall they have on all Goldwings. Price of the new rear master cylinder including shipping was $58.86 = one day job!! Not a real hard job at all. Disassembly was easier than reassembly I can tell you. I di-sected the old stock rear master cylinder and found the piston to be out of spec in diameter by 0.003' to 0.005". and I can see many signs of wear/ chaffing in the bore and on the piston. I also learned a few tricks to install the new assembly due to a lack of space between the frame and a lower water return hose. One Example: The "angle" of the brake rod that goes thru the frame to the brake peddle/arm does not want to line up with the hole in the frame during reinstall. I had to use a wire bent in a hook shape and hook the wire under the end brake rod and then pull upward on it to align it with hole in frame as I was also using a screwdriver to push the rod into and thru the frame. No space for your finger or hand to get in there at all.. Another example was trying to reattach the return spring. A small task but again, but I learned you must tie a string to the small spring BEFORE you attempt to install it or it will end up in lah-lah land under the engine somewhere. I was able to use a magnet to find mine and pull it back out luckily. If anyone attempts to remove the stock rear master cylinder and install a new rear master cylinder feel free to contact me for help. I can now stop on a dime and give you nine and a half cents in change.. WOW do my brakes work great... I am really satisfied.
  22. That is the best looking bike I have seen in a long time!!! Very nice work!
  23. If no one is behind me I do not apply the brakes. I will just coast and down shift slowing down until (or if) I need to apply the brakes. If someone IS behind me, I put out my left hand (stopping signal) AND I tap the rear brake for my lights to flash. I slow down WAY before the intersection or vehicle in front of me and watch in mirror to ensure the vehicle behind me is slowing down. Once I am at a crawl, I will ease my way up to the vehicle in front of me staying to the left side of my lane for a way out in case the vehicle behind me decides it doesn't want to come to a complete stop, but at least it will be at a crawling pace, which gives me time to make my safe exit pulling along side the vehicle in front of me..
