Help stop the bum from getting sore
Eck replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had that same problem, so I spoke to what I call the VR.Org riding Icon He told me to do what he did.. He told me to go to the dollar store and purchase a small bath rug..the type that you put by the tub when stepping out of the shower.. Fold it in half, and then poke a couple holes in it to hook some small tie downs to it, and strap it to my seat. Well I did, and it cost me 2 bucks...color black.. Next day, I rode from Ft Collins, Co to Elk City Okla..12.5 hours.. had no butt sweating or butt pain. Next day I rode from Elk City, Ok., to Huntsville, Al., ...14.5 hrs.. again no butt sweating or pain.. Only the riding icon would know the right answer to that question! THANKS FOR THE "CHEAP" IDEA......... "LA" Oh, Iv'e had many people ask me where I got the custom made black sheepskin for my seat... -
Might want to check with your local audio store.... They usually sell it in sheets and precut circular for use as a record vibration dampener.. Radio Shack, or most any audio store that sells home stereos and gun stores sell it as a cheek protector..it adheres to the gun stock ..

Just get on it and ride it as if you had it for years... However, Make sure you know how it handle it first.. (excessive weight).......
-
Lets see, if I did that when I reach 62, and based on what my house is worth, I could retire for maybe two years, then I would have a bike and be homeless.............

Just thinking here, but would something like this work for your needs.. You can use a regular ink pen (top end)... by cutting the plastic top end of the ink pen down and leaving the "tip" of the ink pen... (the piece you push down on) as the shock. You can cut the inner spring down and then stretch it to where you adjust the tension either stronger or weaker.. If the object can not be supported by one shock, then cut down two or three ink pens as required to support the weight of the object.. Hey, its 5:30am and Im not awake yet...

Ok, your killing me.. SOME people understand that some basic COMMON SENSE applies.. If one cant figure the little things out in life, they surely shouldnt be tackling the bigger things... Use a hair dryer, heat them up and remove them prior to cleaning and painting.

Acetone will not hurt (or weaken) the helmet..
-
I'm getting ready to paint mine too...... Will be going to Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Marts paint section: Pick up: (2) spray paint ..that matches bike color as close possible (1) spray can of clear coat (1) can of Acetone to clean before painting. (1) Roll painters tape (1) pkg of super fine steel wool Remove inner lining of helmet remove chin strap with out metal loop..(will explain below). mask chin strap with metal loop including metal loop remove any snaps mask air vent if you dont want to remove it. You can mask / fill helmet with news paper if you want. Wipe helmet with acetone to remove dirt and finger print oil. Note: Fingers will turn white because it removes the oils from your fingers and skin too. Hang helmet by metal loop from a nail. Clean again with acetone one more time to be sure.. shake spray paint can well (1 minute) apply (2) coats of paint after paint has dried, lightly buff with super fine steel wool Wipe clean again with acetone.. acetone will not remove fresh dried paint. shake spray paint again and apply two more coats remove masking on chin strap so it doest stick to strap let dry over night re-mask chin strap with metal loop shake clear coat can well spray clear coat per directions remove masking on chin strap again so it doesnt stick to strap clean up area ... let helmet dry over night / per instructions re-assemble helmet Time for a ride....

He has his reasons, and wether some understand the reasons or not, those reasons are real to him... Yes, I do miss his "questionable" humor too.... (a one of a kind type guy..but he appeared to be all heart)

Ive stood up and have gone with out hands on handle bars, but not from passenger seat........ I have way to much invested in my bike and in my body that is worth a hell of a lot more than the risk........

I myself am not 100% satisfied with my Venture, but I do like it a lot, and I mean a lot.. I have owned many a bike over the years as many here have. Such as a KZ900 that I raced for 6 years on the drag stip in Savannah, Ga. I dont ever remember working on that bike near as much as I have on my new (05) Venture. But yet that bike was built for speed and muscel, and not near the weight of the Venture. I have given many a thought of moving on to a GW or a HD, but both have thier problems, and even BMW has thiers. For the time being, I will keep my Venture for now, but this may only be because I have not reached the point that you have with yours.

Don, I would DEMAND a free bike until they come up with the true story of how it happened and would keep using thier bike until all the repairs are done to your satisfaction.. Why should you be without a ride just because of something THEY DID.... You take your car into a dealer and they will furnish you a free car IF they make a mistake and need to keep you car for a week...... They all have insurance for such things...but if they use that insurance, the price goes up on them..and they dont like that so they wont offer you a vehicle... I would definately tell them I want a bike to ride until mine is fixed right!

Minimum length 10 ft long.. This leaves 4 inch's from rear of bike touching ramp door, and if you have a trailer hitch it may only have one inch left before touching ramp door. Minimum width 6 ft wide.... Anything less, and you wont / dont have room to get in and around the bike to tie it down..(no room to get to the left front of bike). Right front is ok if you have a side door.. Only other option I would look for is a "V" nose.. I had the straight (flat) nose on mine and I could really tell it was behind my Silverado truck when I tried to keep it at 70 MPH... good luck!

Thanks Jeff for the update. We wish you all well..

Silvert, Please dont take offense, cause I'm not doggin what you said. What you said here: It may not have much of an effect but it's just something I do coz that's what the old geezer who taught me said I should do. AND I should mention that I scuff them at 90 degrees to the rotation. You are absolutely correct in what you were taught and how you scuff at 90 degrees. This same subject (scuffing new pads) was a major discussion in my NIASE class (National Institute of Automotive Excellencey) when I became state certified in brakes. You Can scuff the new pads and it does remove the grease /oils from handleing. Glazeing occurrs from heat / wear. New pads dont have glaze (yet) Brake pads can squeel from glazeing, and you can remove your old pads and lightly scuff (sand) at a 90 degree to rotor rotation to remove the glaze. But like I said, it wont hurt either way, but you really dont have ot sand them. I think that old gezzer was our class teacher.. I remember, a guy threw a pair of ladies crotchless underware under the seat of his car cuz he was so darn strick with us in his class......

Would be nice to find out if they had deer horns on their bikes.. Been many a disscussion on this site about them in that YES they do work and.....NO they dont.. But then again, they could have run into been deaf deer... or... just plain suicidal deer.. -
I have to throw in a nickles worth here in place of just 2cents worth.... If you didnt notice the pulse "before" you changed your brake pads then this eliminates any worry what so ever about a bent rotor. You said the inner rear pad was wore down to nothing, which means the old front pads still had a little life in them. This means you would have noticed the pulsating even with the OLD pads.. If the pulsating is NEW to you since you installed NEW pads, then you had to have gotten oil or grease (something) on the rotor abd new pad surface. I would leave them alone (as they are) and just go for a ride..now dont see how fast you can go, but get on a side road and in 3rd or 4th gear, you can hold the throttle at 25 MPH and slowly pull in on the front brake lever while holding your throttle and make the pads rub "kind of hard" (DRAG) on the rotor for ONLY 10 to 15 seconds. The heat that is built up will more than likely burn off any oil or grease, and you should be fine.. If it seems to be better AFTER doing this, but still not like you think they "used to be" you can do it again one or two more times to ensure you burned off anything on the two surfaces...DONT hold the brake on for long periods of time because "excessive" heat WILL warp the rotor.. I dont feel there is anything wrong with the brake job you did other than getting the rotor and pads a little dirty with something that will wear off in a short time. You should not have to bleed your brakes just because you changed the pads. Howeve, it wouldnt do any harm, but you should not have to. As for sanding the pads and rotor with emmery cloth or something, I have never done this. It will not hurt to do it to remove any grease or oil on the pad surface, but you really dont need to do it for the brakes to work right. Like I said, I would just go for a ride, hold the brake on for a couple times and then let it go.. You will be fine.
