KAYBAY, This might be of some help for now... give them a call. Customer Service No.:800-468-8397 http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=16004077 Ah ha...I got the manual to open: here is WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS TO USE: REF: Page 9-2 Gear lube to be: SAE-80API "GL-4" HYPOID GEAR OIL So..if your Wal-Mart "Super Tech Full Synthetic oil" is not HYPOID, then I would not use it
-
Sure got my heart pumpin this morning!! HE BETTER GO BACK WHERE HE STARTED AND "LISTEN"
-
I cant get the manual to open on my computer right now, but I suggest you look at your manual and use the type it calls out. If it calls out to use Hypoid type oil then I would use it. Ah ha...I got the manual to open: here is WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS TO USE: REF: Page 9-2 Gear lube to be: SAE-80API "GL-4" HYPOID GEAR OIL So..if your Wal-Mart "Super Tech Full Synthetic oil" is not HYPOID, then I would not use it Hypoid is simply for extreme pressure gearboxes, which is good for a differential.. What is hypoid oil? It is gear oil with an anti-scuff additive required for hypoid (offset) style ring and pinion gears.

Hey Freebird, Time for you to start carrying your own drinking glass??

Kit answered it better than I can... I treat oil like my woman... When you find one you really "believe in" I strongly suggest you dont change out play around with other types because your vital organs are at stake and could cause internal and external damage costing many dollars in repairs....
-
ouch.....That'll leave a scar.......
-

Freebird is correct.. Sorry, but what do I know anyway...ha I was going by this picture...which really is not a good one... http://www.hitchdoc.com/images/12-24-03/yamRSventure3.jpg As seen here on a Valkyrie, it would be a task to install... Im sure the Venture installation would be more geared towards this picture and installation instructions http://www.herberts.org/wayne/valk/trailerhitch.htm

I must admit I have nothing bad to say about Star members or on how they want to run thier membership or forum. The few Star rider members that I have met were very polite and very respectful towards me when I told them I belong to VR.Org. Not one Star rider has ever offended me. I understand that Star rider rules are different than VR.Org rules indeed, but that is what makes them different from us. VR members and the web site is run different than thiers and that my friend is what makes us who we are. I choose to be a VR member because of the great people I have met and bonded with here and not because VR.Org is a free site. Oh believe me, I am very thankful it is and I do what I can to make the site grow and provide my offerings of support to the members and site. I can be honest and say IF for some reason, VR.Org had to begin charging a fee for me to remain a member, I would indeed pay that fee because I enjoy the friendships I have, and the others I look forward to down the road. The members of Star, I am sure, feel they too have a bond and really dont mind paying a fee to remain as a Star member. Im sure they have reasons for what they do and how they do it. They too have met people and became friends such as we have. They pay to remain a member ...and so what..we dont They are very respectful people....such as everyone here is... They are welcome to ride with me anytime. Im sure I would be welcome to ride with them anytime. They have certain rules they are "expected" to abide by just as we are "expected" to abide by the rules of VR.Org. (like posting pictures of our bikes....) So, lets go ride, be friends and have an ice cream!!!!!

By the looks at the picture on thier site of the 2nd gen, it appears you remove the two lowest bolts on each side of rear fender and siddle bag supports. Remove the stock filler piece that runs under the rear edge of the rear fender, and install thier set up in the same four mounting holes Shouldnt be more than a 15 minute job to install the "frame work" Time consuming will be installing the wiring harness which will take longer if yuo decide to "solder" all the wires, run them where they cant be seen, tie the wire harness down secure, and to install the connector bracket.. Sounds like a about a two hour job and a twelve pack for starters..

Tom, If your talking about the mod shown here.....you WILL have to break the glass.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=498 The glass is glued into the metal housing. Please make note that the bead of glue runs the entire circumference between the glass and metal housing.. I had to grind the glue (and broken glass) out when I did this mod. Yamaha was not being skimpy at all on the amount...or "strength" of glue in this area as they are on the amount of grease placed on the driveshaft splines......

Here my experience just two months ago..(shortened version) I called the National Toll-Free Assistance Number 1-800-983-4500 I asked them to tow my bike to the dealer because my electric fuel pump went out. (Warrenty work) They asked: How far is it from your house to the nearest Yamaha dealer I said: About 25 miles They said: Well the road side assistance will call a towing service for you and we will also pay for the first 5 miles. You will be responsable to pay for the remaining charge by the towing service to get your bike to the yamaha dealer. I said: WHAT........Your kidding..... They said: No..we are providing you "customer service", by calling the towing service and paying for the first five miles... the road side assistance does not pay for the entire towing bill....... I used a neighbors trailer and hauled my bike to the shop myself..

It's NOT the VENDORS and SUPPLIERS folks... Let me explain: Dont know about YOU, but I remember back when my life was just peachy fine until I bought this darn RSV. That day changed my life forever. I want to sue Yamaha, and the vendor who sold me this bike because I have become so damned addicted to "WANTING CHROME and ACCESSORIES" that I spend hours searching and wanting chrome parts now. Expense's have increased three fold too..I now make long distance phone calls inquiring about wanted items, then fall for the lust placeing orders. I have become "filled" with anticipation all the time.. I can't sit still, and find myself out of control in a waiting frenzy..... I now experience many moods of frustration and anger I take my "moods" out on vendors because the item didnt make it on time I find myself spending hours on the phone and sending send emails checking on the orders I placed I cant seem to go to far from my front door anymore and continually open it to look to see if maybe the post man set my item on the porch. So many "mood swings" have "over taken me" all because I bought this bike. (even my strogen level is off...) My check book is dwindling... I cant stop attending meet & eats. For some reason, I cant stop buying rags wax and vehicle cleaning supplies Now for the KICKER: To TOP it all off,....in my searching, I came across this VR.org site where I now have a second home. I find myself spending most of my time sitting in a (now) worn out chair, reading posts about many other folks who are in the same boat as I am. (Hey, this just might be a good class action law suit in the making) I mean hey, I "WAS" normal before I bought this bike and found this site.... I did have a check book with a couple bucks in it... I even used to spend TIME with my wife, but hell, can't remember her name now.... My life WAS... peachy fine...........

Well, I dont know much about a 1st gen, and I noticed that you have not heard from REDNECK yet, so .. I guess we will just have to wait till the 1st gen combatant has spoken (The bike looks very clean ... Condor)

Halfwit, I think all the comments are thoughts to ponder when planning a group ride. When you post your plans be sure to include the following: Where to meet Time to meet Kickstands up at "X" time - (no exceptions..) Show up at starting point with full tank of fuel Go potty "BEFORE" we leave the starting point Bring your prescription medicine First stop will be at .......xxxxxxxx First stop will be 15 minutes and then Kickstands Up at (x) time First stop for gas & potty will be "X" number of miles (or aprox time) Kick Stands up at Second stop will be at.....xxxxxxx for 15 minutes Kick stands up... Thirds stop will be for lunch at .......xxxxPrint out your posting of when/ where/ time and "group expectations" (rules) and have copies available at the starting point. Hand them out well in advance / prior to departing. Make it "clear" the 1st stop will be in (x) miles (or XX minutes) Make it clear that gas tank should be full NOW..prior to kick stand up time As Popeye very well said: In groups, more stops are always necessary since someone will always have to pee... when you don't, get thirsty after 20 mins, have to stretch 15 mins since last stop, get aspirin out of trunk, fix wedgy......... However, once they accept your above instructions they already know your not stopping... A good group of riders can ride 45 minutes to an hour before "Someone" has to make a stop for anything.. Again as Popey said: The 'route' is always the difficult part to plan to: 1. Avoid conjestion & traffic. 2. Enough potties at each stop. 3. Food, drink, fuel, etc., available at each stop. 4. Pre-flight instructions...single file turns, staggering, speeds, separation regroupings [traffic lights, cages, trucks]. 5. Pre-arranged signals for those with no CB. 6. Known mobile phone service. 7. Paved detours for unexpected. Overnight trips should also have weather gear, water, first-aid, tools, baling wire, duct tape, bungees, rope, flashlights, DOT 3, oil, reflectors, safe parking, scoot dealer or auto parts within reasonable distance. Group can decide who carries what. I've been on many dozens of group rides & too often it's messed up by dumb stuff. Who brought antihistamine? Sally's eye is swelling shut from a bug bite, etc., etc. (I liked this one Popeye!!!! ha) I always say thank God for the planners. First time planners should probably keep miles/bike time down & stops/social time up. (I agree) The more stops you make, the shorter they will be. Nothing wrong with several 5 (or 10) minute stops. Add a "link" of your choice, to your posting of "group riding rules", and ask those going on your ride read them over "BEFORE" they show up for your ride so they know YOUR expectations as the group leader. Choose a well experienced rider to be your tail gunner (rubber band) in back..and he/ she must have a CB to talk with you the leader at all times. I think by all the posts here, you have a good idea on what your up to... I wish you luck on your plans and wish I could ride with you.
