A new really bad noise.
Eck replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With your engine shut off, being on pavement or a cement surface, slowly push your bike forward and aft..Listen carefully for a grinding noise.. If you hear it, then your hub splines need completely cleaned of dirt, rust and any OLD lube that may be in there. I'm willing to bet you wont see any.. To do this, I use a small gun cleaning "soft" wire brush and snip the wire handle off leaving enough sticking out to place it in my battery operated drill motor.. Clean / polish each of the (5) pin holes real good. Use a strip of 600 grit sand paper and pull it back & forth on the pins to remove all the rust and debris.. Take a Q-Tip and apply molly lube to the inside of the (5) pin holes making sure the lube is all the way around the ID of hole Apply more lube to the OD of the pins.. here I would not "cake" the grease on because it will come off and ooze down the holes in the rim spokes and come out around the rim (caused by the centrifugal force) thus making a total mess.. Just ask me how I learned this....duh.... While in there, you may as well go ahead and pull the drive shaft and grease it up AND change the hub gear lube as both being mentioned in prior posts. Good luck -
broken bolt in linkage plese help
Eck replied to ransom's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm willing to bet it is the one bolt that holds the shifter on.... Carefully...drill a small hole into the "center" of the bolt....take an easy out and try to remove the bolt. You could also apply heat the "outer rod" surrounding the bolt (not on the bolt) with a propane torch. This does two things. One, as the rod gets hot / hotter the molecules in the metal swell in the tube (not the bolt) and relieves some of the compression (or choking) on the bolt threads which will aid in removal.. Just don't over do it because you don't want to heat the molecules in the metal bolt Second, the heat will also make any Loc-tight that is on the bolt "pliable" again which will aid in the removal of the bolt. Once you remove the bolt, I would personally would re-tap (called "chase") the threads to ensure they will accept the replacement bolt and that you will have confidence in being able to remove the bolt again in the future.. Good luck.. -

Now that is what I call a pure hearted Venturerider..one who gives up parts off his bike (or his bike) so another VR member can go for a ride.. Bless him and all the other members just like him..
-
I called him last Friday, talked about 20 minutes, he is doing well. Just laying low, taking care of his homestead, wanting to get out for a ride like always.. He will be out riding soon.. so we all better get fresh sheets on the beds and some food stocked up for he will be knocking soon....

Sounds like your Steering head bearings may be loose. its a quick fix... Look in tech section for adjusting steering head bearings.. Takes longer to jack the bike up then it does to fix it..
-
I don't know of a "longer" after market brake lever... If you know a welder, you can cut yours in half and add an extension piece to it, then sand, prime and paint it black with ripple paint to hide any flaws..or send it out to get it chromed if you take all the flaws out..

I think it would be best if you parked your truck under a tree that has a very large branch. Hook a come-a-long or wench to the branch,, and slowly lift the front of your truck up in the air to where the trailer ramp door is only about 8 inches off the ground.. Then you can push or drive your RSV into the trailer where it is level. Then tie it down real good. Then take a ladder and a chain saw and proceed to cut the branch off the tree trunk and your back in business.. And good luck on your road trip......
-
You can place a 2 x 6 or 2 x 13 board on the floor of the trailer right in front of the ramp door hinge, and it will LIFT the front of the bike one inch higher to get the bike in or out of the trailer. The 2 x 6 (or 2 x 12) board needs to be at least half the length of the bike so that the rear tire is near, or on, the ramp door hinge before the front tire rolls off the board..Once inside you can move the board, or just leave the bike siting on it and tie it down like you normally would..

Any thing can be attached to a Venture.. All depends on the persons inginuity...and how bad he wants it.... Yes, it can be attached. You may need to design and manufacture attach bars /brackets to make it happen..

If my wife isn't going with me, I will always choose to ride, unless it is raining or about to rain. Even if it is going 1 mile or 20 miles to a store or whatever. My GW had 42,042 miles on it when I got it last May. ...It now has 63+K on it... That is a guesstimate of about 11+K this past year, but dont forget, I was laid off for 6.5 months too..so I had to lay a little "low" being we had no income to speak of..

I surely hope I made that clear enough for anyone who read my posting. I did say ....with an inline fuse and a relay.
-
So sorry to hear this news. I heard he was having problems and hanging on with much pain. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and Annette.
-
I would say yes to both your questions provided you run your 2nd set of fender driving lights on a totally different circuit with an inline fuse and a relay. I personally would also install a separate on/off switch so I could turn them off in the case I added OTHER electronic accessories..(heated clothing, grip warmers etc)...I would turn them off when running the other added items, so not to over tax the alternator.

Hope your doing well Charleen and well "BACK" on the road back to recovery.

Well, I think he is working, saving some "Ka-ching", and planning another really nice family vacation again.. But I too miss his comforting replies.....
