You don't play fair ..... asking a loaded question like that... I would not go over 500lbs total weight...(and make it a short ride).. All joking aside.. your RSV will be very top heavy, so be careful..

Looks very nice Rick. Good job on it. You might have to change your site name to the Black Beauty now... Besides looking very sturdy, it appears a little on the heavy side. Does it seem to PUSH you when your trying to stop? It would be nice if the RSV came with ABS brakes.. you would really enjoy it with that trailer behind you..

Not sure when you plan to leave for this trip, but if you have the time.... Make out an emergency contact card and hang it around your neck every time you get on the bike. Being out of state, no one will know you or who to contact in the case of an emergency. Check your brake fluid and clutch fluid levels. Change you oil and Filter now (unless you did so not to long ago) If time permits, remove the rear wheel, clean and grease those hub pins. Tires seem to last around 7 to 10k miles on the RSV.. Make sure your tires don't need replaced before leaving for this trip. Take a coat.. It gets cold up there in those mountains... Adequate rain gear will be required.. Cell phone charger... Mine was hooked directly up to the bike in the trunk.. it could be charging while I was riding.. Take a map.. just in case your GPS goes Ka-put... Take extra Fuses...and some tools.. Take me with you............

Not certified, but was trained by a certified EMT.. Responded, rode the ambulance for two years in Savannah. I decided I was not true EMT material..after seeing things I care not to speak of that gave me nightmares for weeks after..still think about some of them now and then.. It was more then I could handle...I will help in a split second if need be, but I hope I never have to ever again..

Hey my friend, As you can tell by now you are not the first one to go through the wrath of a divorce.. You have already come to the conclusion that the only ones who make out are the attorneys.. I pray your wife figures this out too, where you both can come to a sound decision that suits you both fairly and be able to walk away as friends. Now, as being your friend Randy, I strongly ask you not to do anything stupid that you will regret.. Take a deep breath, take it all in, live through it like many of us have, and you will be a much stronger person in the end, a more wealthier person (which you cant see right now), but best of all........you will be much wiser... Your friend.. Eck

Monty, Folks may laugh, but I used regular household rubberized type caulking on most everthing on the bike..You only need something that will absorb vibration... A little rubberized caulking on the threads.. and whal al..no drips that cause damage to anything...easy to remove next time, and easy to wipe off the bolt or screw with a little WD 40 and then you are able to replace the bolt or screw after applying a little more new caulking..Just my opinion.. like ears.. everyone has at least ONE.. Sorry for the mess your in.. You have a beautiful bike too...file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Eck/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-3.png

I highly recommend you wash it first..even if it is brand new... If not you will have the color of it bleed into your shirt.. Ask me how I know...

Good advice there Gene.. I'm afraid I would fail......... Wonder if we could have a riders Training course set up at one of our VR rallies..? Now take your diploma and go see your insurance company for reduced rates....
-
Sure wish you two would quit teasing me/ us... You two ride safe. Hope you and your friends all have an enjoyable time and safe return home. You rode the road I want to ride.. Two years ago I mentioned having an rally in Durango and only a few answered. I think Durango and that area would be a memory for all who attended if we ever had a VR rally there. I'm ready to go there now, but cant due to work..but maybe next year..

Stop the crack from getting any bigger as soon as possible. Drill a small 0.250 (or smaller) diameter hole at the end of each side of the crack. It's imperative the drill hole is placed in the center of each crack. Otherwise, you'll end up with a larger crack. The crack will stop if the drill holes are correctly centered. Ok, Some may laugh at doing this, but it will stop it from cracking anymore... On the inside of the fairing, sand the area around the crack with sandpaper until it's roughed up. Pour some alcohol on a cloth and wipe the area clean, being sure to remove any debris. This is necessary to allow the home made patch to better adhere to the plastic surface. Heat the surrounding area with a hair dryer. Once you've reached the correct temperature, you should be able to hold your hand to the area for only a few seconds. Heating the area is very important, but you don't want to melt the plastic. Place a piece of duct tape over the crack. Make sure the tape extends a couple of inches on all sides surrounding the crack. Once the tape is in place, firmly press down on it, securing it on the plastic. You can use a large metal spoon with your finger in the spoon to push the tape down for a smooth appearance and to aid in the bonding. Don't drag the spoon Heat the 1st layer of duct tape/ patch with the hair dryer until you begin to see small wrinkles appearing on the top of the tape. At this point, the glue from the tape is starting to melt into the areas that were sanded. This is a good thing. Placing your thumb inside of the spoon, begin pressing and rolling the spoon onto the duct tape. It's best to start at the center of the area and use as much pressure as you can while pressing the spoon onto the tape. Whatever you do, don't drag the spoon across the taped surface. If this is done, the tape will tear. Work one area and pick up the spoon, and move to the area next to it. Work the spoon across the whole area of tape, reheating the tape as needed. It's necessary for the tape to remain hot while pressing it down with the spoon. Repeat the process of applying another layer of duct tape and heating it. You can do this three or four more times. This will ensure that you've created a sturdy patch. A patch placed on plastic will be able to take vibrations and stress yet remain flexible and quite durable. If repaired correctly, this type of patch should last for years. Oh, if you want you can spray paint over the patch to blend the color.., but being the patch is on the inside of the fairing you may just want to say the heck with painting it.. -
(Quote) Whenever I put in 4.3 gallons the Tour deluxe uses 3.9 and the wing about 3.3. Ah, what was the question again.... Hope you know I am kidding... My GW will burn a tank of gas too now and then too... There are many factors that play a big part of how many miles per gallon any bike gets. Heck, I noticed my GW gets worse mileage after I eat... I would still love to be riding along side you guys no matter how many miles I get per gallon..

I know well about riding with Swifty, wingman and muffinman. I remember chasing a UPS truck that I could not catch in some sharp curves north of Helen Ga. that wore my highway boards down on my venture. Been teased about it for a few years now, but after the bad accident I had, I realized it is just a gamble and the road does win ...when you least expect it.

When one thinks they have no fear of the ride they are on.. It is time they get off it.. GW's have more power then most bikes and in a curve you can lose it fast.. I will not drag my pegs on my GW either.... unless done accidentally....

Wild Hair called me to. I tried to call him back but in Iuka, we always have bad service... I have made my mind up that I dont want to use Ride on tire seal at all. Swifty, this is my choice and opinion.. I carry tire plugs and I also carry one can of fix a flat that IF needed..meaning if the tire plug did not work, then I would be able to use the can of fix a flat to at least get me get me off the road..(not having to push / tow the bike)... For the record....I have never ever had a tire plug fail or not seal. Many do not know that there is a trick to making sure a tire plug seals.. How do I know this..believe it or not I went to a training class by a tire plug manufacturer back in the early 70s..oh yes, things have changed but the "principle of installation" is still the same. You must push the plug in, then then turn the tool handle at minimum one complete turn, then pull the handle out.. Many just push the plug in and pull the handle out.. By turning the handle one complete revaluation you make a small knot on the end of the plug, and as you pull the handle out the knot is litterly pulled up snug against the inside edge of the entire hole in the tire thus sealing the hole from the inside, leaving the remaining "stem" of the plug to "fill" / "plug" the IML of the hole. With out the knot on the inside, the plug 'may not" fill the entire periphery of the hole (depending on hold diameter) thus leaving a strong possibility of it leaking... The can of fix a flat I carry, is just my "cheap insurance" to aid the seal (if needed) and also help refill the tire with air to get me off the road.

Looks pretty neat there swifty. I have a safety question though.. What is the max weight rating the tires can carry?? They look like they would only haul around 600 to 800 lbs (combined), but this is by appearance only from looking at the pictures. Would hate to see you loose the bike from blow out.

I just had to remove these off my wrecked RSV and then I had to figure out a way to install them on the GW..I love-um

Not sure what happened here, but when I opened your photo link my computer locked up immediately and my security pop ups started appearing saying my computer is under attack..... I tried to shut down using windows manager but nothing would help.. so I had to reach down and shut my computer off manually because everything stopped and locked up. I'm sure there are some really nice photos I would want to see too...but I can not open your link. Hugs.....

Years ago, I paid for a pizza with a check.. next thing I receive is a letter saying the check was bad due to Insufficient Funds and they were notifying me that I had to pay a $20.00 fee.. I went to my bank the very next day with the letter and asked where my money was.. They checked and admitted they reviewed the wrong account in that I had way more then the $9.00 to cover the pizza.. I asked them for a print out of my account to show the pizza place that I did in fact have the money in my account and i also asked for a letter from the bank stating that THEY made the mistake. I went to the pizza place and spoke with the owner, and showed him the portion of my account related to the day I wrote the check and the preceding week after I wrote it to prove I had more then enough for the pizza. Then I showed him the letter from my bank where they admitted THEY made the mistake. He said so what...the check bounced and if I didnt pay the $20 bucks he would take me to court. Yep, I went to court with him and I presented the judge with the letter from the bank and my account information and the judge told the pizza owner he had the wrong person in court and to sue my bank.. not me.. (which he did) Years later, I moved to Huntsville, Al and wanted to open a checking / savings account and when I went into a bank with a bank check to open an account, the bank said they would not let me open an account with them because I had an outstanding bounced check in Savannah, Ga for $9.00............. There I stood with a check for over 100K from my house that I just sold and the bank would not take it.. I went across the street to another bank.. and have been with them ever since..
