I sure wouldn't.........nope, nope, nope...

Hey Dennis, It is easy to get to these small air inlet vents, you do not have to take off much at all. Just the top "small panel" that fits around ignition and dash meters...your there.. Air inlet vents are black, almost touching theblack cover that hides the top fork oil fill bolt, on top of the tripple tree. Screen needs to be "aprox" 1 inch high x 2.5 to 3" in length.. should use some thin flexable screen and push it up into the end of the air inlet tube.. This is more for those who park thier bikes in a shed for the winter...where mice look for a warmer hibernation spot..

The FIRST time you break it down, it will scare you...it is intimidating to see all those panels and hoses, wires etc..but...now that I have had mine apart (several times) I can change the air filter in a matter of 1.5 hours..and that is like MIDRSV said, about 30 minutes to strip all of the plastic off and 30 minutes to put it back together. It takes about another 15 to 30 minutes to remove some other stuff (wires and hoses) to get to the air filter and then put that stuff back in place..it really is nothing to do now that I know how to do it. Its like after you tear the RSV fairing apart, you realize hey, this is not so bad after all.. The quesiton is, how often do you think you would really have to change the air filter.......Once...maybe twice at most..three times if you plan on keeping the same bike for many years of riding..like 160k or more on it..me, I would be looking for another one, before that.. If you dont ride on dirt roads (which I dont unless I have to), there isnt much you have to worry about. I changed mine about 4 months ago at 66k miles..and it wasnt all that dirty.. It is a smart move to put a little piece of regular screen door "screen" (hand cut to size) and place it in the entrance of the air inlet tubes, which are located to the outward sides of the upper tripple tree..(one inlet tube is located on each side of the tripple tree). Any piece of screen will keep the mice from entering and building a nest on top of your air filter... Yes, have read numerous stories of this happening.. If you plan your tear down adventure out like MIDRSV did, and make a list of what all you want to acchomplish while it is tore down, you really wont need to tear it apart again for a long long time. Just like the RSV..plan head on what you what to do and do it all at the same time.

If I remember correctly, there is a plastic push-pin type lock located under the center of the lower fairings where you can see the ridge/split right behind the front tire. Lay on floor and look up under the bottom from center edge of lower fairing. Be careful for the plastic housing inside tends to break off easily. Mine broke off and I never worried about it or replaced it so it really isnt a big deal if it does break off. You can re glue it back on if it does using abs plastic repair glue. After you remove that push pin, there are two screws on the forward front side of each half of the lower fairings. remove them and your home.. Replace left (riders side) lower first, then lower right side second and then install push pin on bottom.. You can click on link below and search the manual.. Pics of the lower fairing are located some where right after foward fairing if I remember.. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm

Quote): .......The title should be Hauling two Ventures . Corrected title for you.......... I had a 6 x 10 and could barely walk / stand on either side of my RSV when tied down in middle of trailer with front wheel touching front end wall. There was no way to walk in front or behind it when tied down in trailer with rear ramp door closed..

Lewis, Please see this thread I started. I wanted to keep it separated from this thread you have, because I will sbe sending the link of my thread to Colleen so she has a feel for how many will be staying at her motel in Blairesville, Ga. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57746

You are speaking of an old quick temporary repair trick, which can also be done with a thin piece of plastic like and old credit card..and it is one trick used to help sell a bike with bad forks. It may appear to work for a day or two but it will leak again, or as mentioned, it is out of oil.

I need a little help or advice on a goldwing problem
Eck replied to GS51's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
If your plugs are wet when you remove them, ..then I dont see how they can be firing.. Being wet does not mean it is running rich to me. -
Lewis, I called the same place you did and a few others.. waiting for return calls now..

Lewis, I sure hope the manager does something better then that.. I didnt pay that much the last two times I stayed there.. Your talking on an average of 4 nights a piece for everyone to stay there...that is close to $400.00 just in motel room expense then gas and eats..I really hope they do better then that. Lewis,\Not that I am taking this over, but right now I am calling every motel in Blairsville right now to see if I can work somethingout for VR.org.. The only way we can get a huge discount folks is for most everyone to syay in the same motel. If we can do that, we can all get a huge discount.. I will post my results tomorrow..

Eck replied to elmicko's topic in Watering Hole
So your not a fairing virgin anymore huh.. Good on ya.. Makes you feel confident if and when you may have to split it again.. Had mine apart so many times I cant remember the count.. Once Freebird reads this, he will know he now has another mechanic to help others at his maintenance day weekend event... Looks like your in big trouble.......- 2 replies

Been there a couple times with my wife. We went one year at Christmas and had dinner there..every room had a huge decorated Christmas tree in it. I mean every room..There had to be a billion lights inside and around the grounds..A beautiful place indeed.. Wish I had the money to have build something like nowadays ...whooo-hoooo..

(Quote): ........that Wing is different. Every time I started off I would instintively attempt to bring my foot up on the floor board that wasn't there. I desperately need those highway pegs I have on order.. I did the same thing Dennis..went to put my feet up and nothing there..ha.. That is why I mentioned highway pegs to you...you will love-em once you get them adjusted for your leg length and height. with the venture I rarely let the RPMs drop under 2500. On the Wing they rarely go over 2500. You can just about let it idle and be able to take off... Dennis, One word of caution, from someone who knows...yes, ask me how I know... Do not keep your left foot "toe section", (the front section of your boot), under the shifter when makeing a left turn.. The toe of the boot can (and will) catch the pavement and rip your left foot backwards up under the foot peg and spit it out under the left side bag.. Believe me, it is VERY painful.. I played hell getting my GW stopped and wanted to cry... I was on crutches for four days.. In short: Make darn sure both feet are on the TOP side of both foot pegs when making turns...(right or left turns) or you will learn this same lesson as I did oh to well. I rode my wing for almost a year and a half before this happened to me. I thought I knew my GW well..Its natural that the more you learn your bike the more you lean in curves. As you become more and more confident of your GW, always remember it will bite you if (and when), you forget this warning...
