Hi Bill, I called him a few times, and he is depressed. I was really hoping that once I got his bike fixed for him that he and I would be able to ride one more time together. When I picked his bike up and took it back to him, I sat on his front porch with him for about 4 hours. He showed signs of loss of strength, and not able to walk far without loosing his balance. I knew then that he would most likely never ride again. He showed up at Vogel in his little car. I spoke to him then, and could see sadness in his face that he could not ride but I could tell he sure wanted to. He stayed at our place a few times on his way to wherever he was going. He always had a home in Alabama.. Like many on the site here, I was blessed to know him and was able to ride several times with him. The ambasador ......will always be the ambasador.

I remember Big Bird. Last time I saw him was on my 4 day, 3 night, Natches Trace ride that I had about 5 yrs ago. If you happen to see him, tell him ECK said hi and that I sent him many get well wishes..

(Quote) I agree with the heated jacket. It's warmer and much more comfortable than layering t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets. I cant agree more since Dennis gave me his old heated jacket. I still wear it and realize now that I could never ride in the cold again with out one. (Again..many thanks Dennis!) I tried multiple sets of Frogg Toggs and they just didn't hold up for me. I now have a Tourmaster rainsuit. I too tries the Frog Toggs and they didnt work for me either. I now have a Tourmaster rain suit also, but mine is getting small for some reason......duh.. I don't care for leather chaps. Dennis I gave up chaps a long time ago. They are a royal PIT-butt to get on and off, when your a fat boy like me.. Eck

What's the function of these covers?
Eck replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Jryan, That shinny cover is a gas deflector so that gas does not run down onto the left rear spark plug when the bike is sitting on its kickstand. I would indeed leave it installed on the left side. -
Redneck, I searched this site for answers to your question. Maybe you will find it useful. Open below link, page down a little more then half way to "Problem Areas". http://www.bmwra.org/otl/r1200gs/ Appears to be like any bike. All have thier little sqawks and issues.

Anyone going to Thunder in the Valley in Johnstown Pa in June
Eck replied to dingy's topic in Watering Hole
wish I could, but cant.. I have been to Johnstown may times in my life, Had several relatives who lived there. I signed my name on an old stone wall and I would like to go back to see if it is still there. It was there for years. In fact yesterday I was looking at Johnstown on the map just because of past memories.. -
Looks great!!.. I have two of them (both are different), hanging on the inside wall of my garage. I was going to paint a curved highway and a few trees, but havent yet.. I cant place it on the outside of my garage like you did. Yours looks neat.

I have to go make some pop corn..this ought to be a good discussion.. If there is a place where a solution to fixing plastic is wanted and or needed, this VR family would sure love to find it. I have no experience with using the equipment you speak of but I will surely listen to those who have the know how. I would like to see before and after photos of anyones repairs..Im sure all would like to see them..

On the front side of the rear fender, yet behind the lower steel bracket of your back rest is a wire harness. This wire harness gets pinched (by you) when leaning back on the back rest. I had the same problem with my intercom on my 05 RSV..my back rest lower bracket pinched the wires in that harness and caused a very loud squeeling in my intercom, then the intercom quit. I had to carefully cut the outer wire harness covering and solder a couple smashed broken wires, then tape it back up to keep moisture and the elements out. I then found a small piece of truck tire laying on the side of the highway, and I placed it (wedged it) between the back rest steel bracket and that wire harness. The thickeness of the truck tire kept the steel bracket from ever touching the wire harness again, and I never once had another issue with my intercom.. Hope you find this info useful and solves your problem. PS: By the looks of your back rest yours is the same type as mine was..!

Another goofy project... diggin' into your scrap piles.
Eck replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
Not sure what your project is but would one of these products be usable for what you are doing? I thought of this stuff as I was reading your posting: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=brush+on+rubber+coating&view=detail&id=A94D04CAA5B1FAE2C0E437723B75079783DB29DB&first=91 Then I thought of this stuff, but again, I dont know what your project is. http://www.plastidip.com/hme_solutions/Plasti_Dip -
