  1. I had hoped so too, but it didnt work.
  2. It's fortunate it started and ran at all after sitting that much. The carbs can be finicky, especially if left sitting with ethanol. I agree with Jaycee, 2qts probably overfilled it and it's getting sucked through. It only holds around 3.5qts from empty. I'll PM you my contact info, your close enough to me that if you get stumped maybe I can help.
  3. I use a couple sheets over my head to keep the government from hearing my thoughts.
  4. I threw some R6 calipers on mine, they bolt right on but the factory lines wont want to bolt up to them, the contour is wrong so a good time for some braided lines. I've heard some say that even some decent pads with the OEM calipers will make a good difference. I delinked my brakes at the same time. I got my calipers off Ebay for 50 shipped for the pair of blue dots (steel pistons). It came with braided lines that just happened to fit. Make sure the oil you got has no "friction modifiers" or "energy conserving" qualities, bad for the clutch many say. A popular choice is Rotella 15-40 diesel oil. I use it in my Venture and Vmax and I know plenty of others use it as well. If it's been cared for 70k is young. Theres a lot of these V4s out there going strong with twice that mileage but without a service history it's tough to tell. A compression check will tell you a lot, maybe plan on a valve adjustment if you dont know when it was done last. There are a few things this can be and some of the wiser folks might have more, but the rear swing arm bearings are probably the first thing I would look at from what you describe. If that checks out you might as well check steering head bearings, if they have not been inspected/repacked they need it that, vid link below. Mine also has 70k and I just replaced the steering bearings/races with an All Balls set. Fork brace not broken? Fork oil good? Some of the early ones had issues with frame corrosion, not sure how long that went on but inspection of the frame to make sure no fatigue or corrosion is probably a sound idea. I'm sure others will more experience will have more answers. that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvtI4wEUCwE.
  5. I use the lowest grade (above 85, which you can still get here in SoDak believe it or not) which is not tainted with ethanol. Using more octane seems to have no effect on the Venture or Vmax. Ethanol avoidance is the biggie more than anything else. 87+ seems to work just fine for me but usually I have to run 91 to avoid the ethanol. I used to use premium with the HDs and other air cooleds because cyl temp can get way up there and cause all sorts of detonation, I just havnt experienced that on the Yamaha V4s, they seem to run true and consistent on any pure gasoline.
  6. Genuine Yamaha is obviously excellent but spendy. Of the aftermarket I have read that the Japanese made K&L is the only route to go, anything else is a crap shoot and probably made in China. I know the guys on the Vmax side have had good luck with K&L but not others. When I did my jet block plugs I had to soak them for 2 days before they started to soften up and take their normal shape but they were rock hard and distorted when I began. After a 2 day soak I could feel they were softer and had taken their normal shape, had to wiggle them back in and they were quite snug. You did use 100% wintergreen oil with the alcohol? I believe it was cimmer (I think) that iterated how important the jet block plugs are in the other thread. Since the bike is together may I suggest a wet float level test. If the fuel level is maintaining it's proper level then I think we can rule out floats/needles/seats and move on to other possibilities. Hoping we can narrow the problem down by ruling things out. I'll attach a page on the wet float level check. We'll get to the bottom of this. I assume the air box was installed during the tests, these carbs wont behave well at all w/o the air box installed. I know there are some guys here that have been doing this longer than I have so there is a better way please step in and correct me.Wet Float Measurement (1).pdf
  7. Sorry it came out in pieces, at least it's accounted for and you know it's not still stuck in the hole.
  8. What great progress, this things going to be a unique beast!
  9. Here is a great link for just that purpose. Dry set on the bench, It's for Vmax but same procedure and spec for the Venture. Aside from jetting and maybe 1mm it's the same carb setup. http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prody11.html Lots of guys like to wet check/set the levels after this but it sounds like you found that info already. Honestly I dry set mine and it rocks. Float level is critical for CV carbs though. While the carbs are apart it might not be a bad time to check jet block plugs for snugness and lay an eyeball on the emulsion tubes to check for any wear there. Also info on that with the above link. Good luck with getting her on the road!
  10. Im sure it is. If you cant find them hit up Dannymax on the vmax board or pm me and I will call him. Im sure he has a basket of them. Another neat thing about the screws I have experienced is I had a missing washer and O ring on one screw. I had them out for a Shotgun. I scoured the ground and everywhere, turns out the Oring was just sticky enough to stick in the hole with that little washer over it which made it look as if there was nothing left in there. A can of carb spray with that plastic red tube slid in there and sprayed and eventually the Oring and washer came sliding down the tube. Darn funny what a few decades will do to these things!
  11. Other possible factors from an employer's point of view might include problems that crop up in mixed work spaces are which gender is most likely to go to PR and file a complaint or take maternity leave. How horribly unfair is it for an employer to be legally forced to subsidize baby having to the detriment of his/her business? These things can cost money and present inconvenience to employers. I know these liabilities cant be legally considered by hiring professionals but I dont doubt its a factor in some decision making. Hats off to the women that work and have the same thick skin men are expected to have, I know and respect a few. I have really seen no evidence that men have any real issues with women in the workplace. I have observed that nobody dislikes women more than other women. All the wasted productivity, power struggles, petty squabbling, drama and workplace politics is exhausting. I have never experienced it until moving int a mixed workplace. I realize its not PC to say this but its real. Not only does it piss off most men but many women too.
  12. How interesting this comes up now that we have been looking for a nee mattress. We have been to a couple places looking and tried out the memory foam and I could barely lay down on it before I ruled it out. It did feel warm, too warm but more than that it felt like it locked me in place. I dont sleep like normal people so that wont work. Some of the most comfy ones we tried were basic beautyrest no frills beds in a medium firmness, most prices under $1000. I cant imagine why I should spend more on a mattress than I did on my motorcycle. Im definately going to check on that link above, our current mattress is well past its serviceable life. Imagine sleeping in a cereal bowl, made out of drain grates, barbed wire and golf balls.
  13. Great looking machine, what a score for a K. Looks like she'll be ready for spring in no time:happy34:
  14. Im also opposed to anyone doing the same work making less money, but as stated, the same job is not the same as the same work. I work in healthcare, specifically nursing. This field is about 90% female. I have an AA RN, when a female with a BSN RN makes more, I get it, and I make more than an LPN. Im always at work, stay late and never let my personal life interfere which puts me in a minority but I'm sure not alone in that. I work in geriatrics/Long Term Care. Those in the he ER and ICU make more than I do, just the way it is. I get perks for my effectiveness and reliability that others in my position may not, and yet others do. A notable majority of women that I work with regularly allow personal, family and social issues to interfere with work, and when it does guess who gets to take up the slack? When they make as much as I do I find it offensive and unfair. I left a job over these issues before, no protest, just moved onto a better atmosphere. Things have a way of balancing out but what I do see is that females willing ng to put in the work and time, and have comparable skills/talent do as well or better than their male counterparts. I know that many male physicians make more than female physicians holding same credentials and practice but when actual hours worked are figured many females make more per hour. Im looking for these studies right now. We have made great strides in this country in getting everyone paid fairly regardless of gender, race, nationality or lifestyle and thats fantastic. Im not sure we'll ever knock out discrimination 100% but we have arrived at a point where anyone willing and able to dedicate themselves can reap the fruits. Another thing noteworthy is that anyone treated unfairly is free to move to the next employer. Not everyone is willing to go where the money is and that is another factor that could be hard to measure in a study. I work with and know some remarkable women, some deserving higher wages than myself, so its not a chauvinism thing im doing, its just the way it is.
  15. . Im very interested, for everyone that has spoken up there are probably several other readers following this. Its great, everyone here is really helpful. I cant begin to quantify all the help I have recieved here, all that I have learned Besides it sucks when someone struggles with ride-preventing issues. We've all been there at some point and its cool when folks are so willing to help. We'll get you on the road, then what is learned will help someone somewhere with the same issue. I know this will help me remove a potential issue from my bike and decalifornicate it. When we help each other out everyone wins.
  16. 1.125" inverted is correct. I used the Factory Pro website for the visuals. http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prody11.html. This is for the Vmax but according to Morley this is ideal for the Venture also. Those Jet Block plugs need to be somewhat snug. If they slip out they are too loose, they should sort of wiggle out more than slip out. If they are hard, shrunk up and dried you can likely rejuvinate them in a bath of one part wintergreen oil/3 parts 91% rubbing alcohol in a sealed container. Mine got a 2 day bath in a shot glass and it worked great. If they are cracked its to late and they must be replaced. If the removal of this stuff works you can try replacing the fuel tank vent and narrow it down. Im going to try to vent mine directly into the charcoal cannister w/o the control valve. Ill decide that after we see what component specifically is causing you grief. Im glad there is progress, the frustration is almost palpable.
  17. Would you like to share with the whole class? Haha. Oh, this might help with float nedle seat removal. http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=26711
  18. . Wet levels have to be checked with the bike level, ie the carbs as level as possible.
  19. . I may be wrong but I think it might be possible to cut one key for different tumbler sets. The members handle is heartbeat. He might have some idea that eludes my non-locksmithy self
  20. There is a member in the classefieds that cuts spare keys, seems to me he had the ability to sometimes pull that off. A question for him to be sure. I recently talked to him about keys but got busy but I should have his info. Ill check and get back after supper.
  21. that sounds like solid advice, especially if you got some ethanol in it. If you suspect a high fuel level you can get the bike nice and level and do a wet bowl level check. When was the last time you were into the carbs?
  22. Is it possible to get a visual on the leak with the air box removed? I think a bowl gasket would leak anytime there were fuel in the bowl depending on where the gasket is faulty.
  23. Women here and when I was on the west coast generally make the same or more then men. When someone makes less than average in a given field there are factors at play other than gender. Those that go to work on time and stay the day without leaving to tend to sick kids, school plays, piano recitals, 90 min lunches, me time et al do better. Those with educational credentials, experience and skills make more along with those with a record of being reliable and capable. Ive worked with some remarkable women who were properly compensated and others who were always lesving for personal reasons, like kids, and everyone else had to cover and do their work, ya know the ones that treat it more like a hobby than a job? Its not just some women either, some dudes do this. I think most of them understand why they make less money and have less respect, the ones that dont end up marching and demonstrating. I think this protest is a few decades too late.
  24. I had to think back on some brown vehicles I've had. Im done with brown. Lariat XLT, f250, f350, e350, country squire sw, comet, 240d, 300sd, 300sdl, hornet, v8pinto, gremlin x, mustang grande, javelin, eagle sedan, and a vw bus. No more brown vehicles! Had the right blonde Venture presented at the right price I might have but I was happy to find blue. Red would have worked too. I painted my Vmax blue, not much more real estate on a Venture and it can be any color you like.
  25. What a great project. I to almost ended up on a Wing, nice bikes but the Venture fit me better. I see fairings on Ebay on the cheap now and then besides a few guys here with parts bikes. Also nice score on the ultimate color, blue is +5hp and and +2 mpg. Welcome!
