As I said earlier about going south, Texas could be a good place to start looking around......
-
It is hard to be fair to everyone, and pick a place that several members doesn't have a couple thousand miles to get there. Only thing I can suggest is having it back and forward like Squid said, but has the last two International Rallies been more toward the north? So maybe next one can be more to the southern border.......

Just for fun, half way through the flight you could always get your helmet out and put it on....... just to see what happens. Have fun! Are you stopping by Asheville on your way back south?

CLASS unit not working???
Skid replied to woz111's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Great ! I just got mine back together today after going over all the soldering joints and it is working like it is supposed to now. So far this week, I got a new CB antenna, the squelch control fixed, hardwired my XM into the bike, and got the class control fixed. What a great week..... -
Today I put the class control back on the bike and it works like new again. I used the info from the tech libary and went through the circuit board. Found several loose or bad solder joints that needed re-done other than the seven joints listed in the information. The moral of this story is: Check all solder joints when doing this repair.....

Did you think to ask the Hotel if they had any video surveillance? Maybe you'll get lucky like RandyA......

The CB and new antenna are working great together. Just like brand new again. I've taken the class control apart and should have it back in tomorrow. Hopefuly the E4 code will be gone. I've also hard wired the XM radio this week, so the cigarette lighter plug is no longer needed.....

Unless Brown Sugar has a VERY bad day, it will never happen.....

Won't be me, but then again I'm not paying into Social Security now either. Only a little over 5 years and I'll be collecting retirement!

That other antenna was worthless. I couldn't hear anything on it before. Last night I was hearing skip from clear across the country. First time I ever heard anything like that on the bike.

I don't think it will move too much, it's pretty stiff. I think the spring would let it move more. I'l try it out tomorrow evening......

Todd, here is what everything costed me. It fit the 1/2 inch hole in the mount perfect. All I needed was the antenna and mounting hardware. I alkready had to coax to replace it. Ebay is the best place if no one here has an extra one. Yamaha probably still sels them but you will have to pay the price. Also Yamaha sells a rebuild kit for them too....... -
OK, I've ordered a new black Firestik FL3 antenna. I liked the slim stock look of the original antenna, but decided to dress up the old girl with a new fiberglass antenna. The original was a little over four feet, but this one is only three feet tall. I suppose if I don't like it I can always change it later. It will be nice to have the CB working as good as it can. I already have the new coax and connectors to connect it up with. Since I removed the Class control to get to the CB, I also will attempt the fix on the E4 code I've been getting. The tech section had a good description of how to do this fix too. I'll follow up later to let you know how everything is going...... Thanks to everyone who responded to this post.

Thanks Dave, Also, has anyone had any experience with the Firestik FL3 antenna on their scoots?
-
I only use it in group rides myself and sometimes on the highway to check traffic conditions. I'm wondering where I might find the best price on a Firestik antenna. Anyone have any ideas?
-
It was over 5:1 I been searching the firestik antennas and looking at the different mounting hardware....

Forward and Reflected power is your SWR reading. A poor antenna will reflect power from the antenna, this is called SWR.

I finally checked my CB antenna out this weekend and discovered I had just as much power going towards the radio as I did the antenna. No wonder it didn't work real well. Anyway I checked the radio with a good antenna on the truck and found about 2.5 watts output. So I am looking for a good place to buy another replacement for the bike. Does anyone have good information where to find a replacement? Probably will go with a Firestick.....

To clutch, or not to clutch. THAT is the question.
Skid replied to Schlepporello's topic in Safety and Education
I use the clutch about 99.9% of the time. Occassionaly when I got a cup of coffee in my left hand I've not used the clutch, but other than that I would use it...... Although, I lost my clutch at the 1st Vogel and rode home without one.
