Tail of the Dragon, Blue Ridge PKWY, Ontario Members September 21-25
Sailboarder replied to Sunman's topic in Watering Hole
Hey, I'm heading down from Owen Sound, Ontario in a week. Two of us leave on June 14th for the Tail of the Dragon. We probably will stay in Maryville for one of even two nights, then head towards Dollywood (although I'm not sure we will go there), then drive through the Smokey Mountains and then travel the Blue Ridge all the way North East. -
Let's publish our own definative touring guide
Sailboarder replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
I like the idea, but have you used this website? www.motorcycleroads.com/ I used it this year when I was planning out my trip to Colorado and it was great. I took their ideas for roads and plotted each one out on a Colorado map, then figured out my route to hit almost everyone of the suggested roads. this is a great site if anyone hasn't seen or used it, especially if you don't know the State you are travelling to like I was when I went from Ontario to 4 points in Colorado. -
very nice trip! I just got back from Colorado myself two weeks ago. Did 8,000 km round trip. We wanted to do Utah as well, but just didn't feel we could take the extra days to go into Utah and out again, so we stuck to touring Colorado. We hit the Monument in Grand Junction then went down towards Montrose, but turned on hwy 141 towards Gateway. I must admit, although we hit many mountains, valleys and canyons, Gateway was our favorite drive! If anyone is in Colorado near Grand Junction, take hwy 141 towards or up to Gateway from Cortez. You won't regret it.

Interesting.... a year or so I broke my left grip too. It sounds like the same grip. I think the problem is when installing the grip you need to move some of the other stuff to make sure the grip goes on the handle bar a little further. This way when you pull on the grip at the end, you are also pulling the handle bare and not just the grip... as you found out... they snap off.

Those look the same headsets that I use with my half helmet. I find they hurt my ears if I wear them for very long because you have to stick your ears in them in such a way that they hang on the back of your ears. I'm leaving on a big trip next week, so I've modified the head set so they don't hang on my ears. I went to the dollar store and bought another headset that goes over the top of your head and can be adjusted. I then cut off the speakers, then taped the adjustable piece on to my other speakers. This way I can put the headset on without putting them over my ears. My helmet fits fine and it's more comfortable this way. There is still the piece that sits at the back of your head, but that doesn't get in the way and the speakers are now suspended by the piece over the top of your head.

Yahoo, I'll be there.... in fact I have a meeting believe it or not for two days IN Port Dover before the event. I'll be staying at the Erie Beach Hotel right downtown on the Wed. night, but will move thursday and friday to the ball diamond where they have camping. I was there last summer and it was absolutely packed. At one point the main street which had bikes lining both sides of the street and down the middle, with thousands of people came to a complete stop. People stopped moving. It was weird seeing this moving crowd walking up and down the street stop moving. I think someone was getting married on the main street so everything came to a standstill. There are all kinds of beer tents, bands etc. Last year Dan Ackroyd was playing (Blues Brothers). He's from Toronto and was promoting his new wine label. If any other Venture riders are there, look for me.. I'm wearing black leather and riding a black venture...

Ok, while you're into teaching us some new things... how do you start a new thread message? I can respond to one like this, but last night I sat and hit all the different links, button, etc. and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to start a new message. Also, I love the little maps everyone has with their display that shows the States and Provinces they have travelled. How do you do that??? Help. Ted.

That's not snow, that's a dusting... come up here to Owen Sound to find snow! 350 cm so far this winter! ..... and Wiarton Willie says it's going to be an early Spring... ha! He didn't mention it's going to be a tough winter first! Can we serve Wiarton Willie dogs at the Kitchener rally?http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/322.gif

It doesn't show through Chrome. It only looks like Chrome. It's plastic I believe but has a chrome look about it. I've seen some plastic parts for a Harley, it was a Seat Heat deflector and it was plastic too, but looked like chrome on the bike. It doesn't look like these fit the Venture though? Not sure why, are our lenses a different size than the other V-stars?

I picked Sailboarder as a CB handle at one point when I was out fishing with a buddy and started talking to his Uncle on shore about where they were catching salmon. The reason I picked Sailboarder is because that's one of the other things I do... Sailboard. In fact I just got back from my annual trip with 12 buddies from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina where we sailboard every fall. It takes us about 20 hours to drive there from home in Owen Sound, Ontario with all our gear. I'd love to take the bike too, but most years we end up driving through snow at some point. Plus I'd look silly with a sailboard strapped to my back, while riding the bike!

Pros & Cons On Front Tire
Sailboarder replied to yamahamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put on the E-3's last summer and went with the smaller front tire. I found it handled much better at slow speeds, which is really when you have problems turning this big beast. I really like the E-3's and the smaller front tire. I doubt I'll ever go back.
