I had a 2000 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 before I bought the Venture.Really liked that bike, but my best friend had a 2006 GoldWing.Every time we went riding I was always asking him to put my helmets and jackets in his bike. His Brother In Law bought a 2004 Venture.I fell in love with it.Almost bought an Electra Glide,But I wanted a water cooled bike. It's hot in Florida.I rode his GoldWing and didn't care for it.The suspension was too stiff and I'm used to having my feet out in front of me.I looked around and found a 2007 Blue/Black one with 4000 miles on it, and bought it.I love this bike! I had the whine ,but had the I basket installed by the dealer and it got rid of about 90% of the noise.I changed the tires for a set of Dunlop Elite III's and handling greatly improved. It handles better than my Shadow, just heavier at a stop.I have about $3,000 dollars worth of accessories and chrome on it.I wish it had a reverse like the GoldWing does, but I can live with it the way it is.I don't understand how fellow bikers spend so much money on a bike to make it their own,and like it,and trade it in on a new bike just because it's newer and has more gadgets.Yea, the radio could be better, but every bike I've owned before didn't even have one.I don't know how good a radio can be on a bike due to all the variables.Every thing on this bike can be fixed or tailored to suit the rider a lot cheaper than the cost of a new bike.I love the sound of the V-4.It sounds like a Small Block Chevy V-8.Others can buy a new bike if they want, but I can't see a bike fitting me better than this one.I'll keep it for a long time,no matter what comes out.

I bought the stand alone one they had.I didn't realize it till after I received it,but it said in the paperwork that it fit up to a 130 tire.I took mine to a welding friend of mine and had him split the carrier down the middle and widen it by 1 inch.It works good now.It cost too much to send back,so I had it modified to work.

Royal Star Venture questions......
Hotrod replied to tibadoe's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The only thing that I wish the Venture had is a reverse, like the Gold Wing has.Other than that,I can live with every thing else.Part of owning a bike is making it your own.It could have a better stereo, guages, etc. but that would drive up the price. Most all that stuff has been figured out by someone on this great site, and shared with the rest of the group. If you are mechanically inclined, you can pick and choose the options you want and add them at a later time. -
New LOUD gear whine - opinions?
Hotrod replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a 2000 Honda Shadow Spirit before I bought my Venture.Several on the Shadow Riders Forum was talking about how good the 5W-40 Rotella T Synthetic was.I purchased a gallon and put it in my Shadow. It went from a quiet bike to so loud I couldn't stand it. The top end noise went from barely there,to sounding like a high pitched Singer sewing machine.I couldn't take it.I went back to Mobil 1 20W-50 synthetic and noise went away. I've used nothing but Mobil 1 since, and now in the Venture. -
New Floorboard Backing Plates with wrong holes?
Hotrod replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I rememember right, once you take the old ones off,the the screw for the new ones goes through a different hole and are held on by a nut on the backside. They are a litle aggravating to get the nut on the backside and hold to tighten.I think I wound up taking my saddlebags off to get enough room to get my big hands back there to tighten up.- 7 replies

Need help with kick stand
Hotrod replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've always been told to slide coins in between each coil to stretch the spring a little at the time until you get the length that you need.I've never tried it myself, but the person that told me swears it will work. -
Have you replace a coil on your RSV?
Hotrod replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Is the #3 coil different from rest? Any one know why it seems to be just this one? I'm like Ediddy,I,ve noticed a different sound from the right side compared to the left.I have a 2007 RSV.By the description every one is giving,it's hard to tell for sure if you have a problem. -
My best friend has a 2006 Goldwing with a spoiler and brake light that is very bright. We discussed ordering a GoldWing spoiler light and attaching it inside my spoiler with 2 sided tape. His was just a brake light, but he ordered a controller and converted it to a running and brake light that flashes when the brakes are applied.I need to do some more checking to see if this will work.I talked to a guy from Custom Dynamics at Thunder Beach in Panama City Beach, Fla. this weekend about making a replacement, but he thought it would cost too much, and that they didn't do custom work.I may call their office to see if this is true.I also thought about Signal Dynamics.I think they do make ther own LED's.There has to be an answer, but finding it may be a problem.

Thanks ver much.I like that better than having to deal with a trailer, and much cheaper.

I ordered the Drag Specialities 1 7/8 from HellRiser Customs for $69.95 and used a Formotion P clamp, used to mount one of their clocks.Mounted it right next to the front brake master cylinder. After mounting, took a pair of vice grips with a cloth in the jaws to keep from scratching the chrome, and twisted the flat bar used to mount the tach to face me.Now,I've got a tach mounted almost exactly like the Baron's,at a fraction of the cost.Oh yeah, the light in the tach is blue and matches my 2007 Venture.

We do not have a Fleet Farm in Florida.Could you post the dimensions of the box?I can get one of my friends, who is a welder and fabricator,to build me one.On the weight issue, you could use (2) 1 inch aluminum flat bars and attach them to the sides at the back of the box and attach the other end under the trunk with 2 P clamps and use screws with wing nuts to make it attach or unattach quickly. You could also polish the support bars to match the box.

I ordered a speed-o-healer and set it to 7.5% according to Freebird's post.I think it is pretty close. For the ones that have set their's with the GPS,what RPM are you running at 60 MPH.Mine is turning about 2900 RPM at 60 MPH with a Drag Specialities Tach.I know its not an exact science with out a GPS,but if they are all geared the same, then they should be running the same RPM at the same MPH.

Skeptical after all noise complaints
Hotrod replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've got an '07 RSV.I bought it,and the more miles I put on it,the louder the whine was getting. At 55 to 60 mph it was hard to hear the radio over the whine.Had my dealer install the I basket and could not believe the difference. It's still there a little, but not noticable unless you are listening for it.The more I ride it,the more I love it.I used to go to motorcycle shops and look around at the new bikes, but I hardly do that anymore. Nothing else compares,in my opinion, and no other bike I've seen looks any better or rides as good.I have most all the accessories in the Star catalogue and the Corbin Seat and passenger backrest.I would not trade mine for any other bike I've seen or ridden and that includes a 2006 GoldWing and a 2005 Harley Electra Glide.I love that V-4 sound. -
engine noise through headset
Hotrod replied to dragonwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine did this,2007 RSV.Tried everyone's suggestions.Moved wires around under my tank, repositioned my tach wire away from the intercom wires and still had the same problem.I had previously had my faring apart and put diaelectric grease on the connector that goes to the head unit for the radio. It would not change channels up or down, nothing but the volume would work. This fixed that problem, so I thought ,what the heck.Split the faring again and pulled all the connectors apart and filled with diaelectric grease.Reseated each one 2 or 3 times to clean the pins, and then tried it to make sure it worked properly before reassembly. This fixed my problem and have not had one since. I hope this works for you like it did me.. -
You can take a small balloon or finger cot that fits tight over the microphone and then put the windsock on over the top. This has eliminated all the wind noise for me and The mics still are on all the time and don't have to worry about turning anything off and on. Headset is now crystal clear and cost me less than $2 for a pack of balloons.

My best friend has a 2006 Wing and I have a 2007 Venture. I've rode his Wing about 40 miles.I didn't like it.Very smooth, but I felt every crack in the pavement.Tried to adjust the suspension, but still too rough.Maybe it's just his,but was't comfortable too me.I was always told he Wing was the Cadillac of motorcycles, but I had a 2000 Honda Shadow 1100 that was smoother and rode better. The Venture has better suspension as far as ride quality, and I like the feet forward riding position.Mine had the whine, but had the clutch basket changed out under warranty and it's gone.I do like the availability of accessories available for the Wing, but would not trade my Venture for one.I do think the Wing handles a little better and steers a litle quicker, but the ride quality of the Venture is much better,in my opinion. The only thing the Wing has that I wish the Venture did is reverse.900 lbs of motorcycle is hard to push backwards.Just have to be careful where you park.

You might want to check with Custom World International. They are a Canadian company. One of my friends has one on his and he loves it.They are expensive,$350 Plus in the states, but very well made, bolts to the sides and easy to take off if you decide to.I have to agree on the Corbin seat and backrest combo. They are expensive, but the difference between it and the stock seat is like comparing night and day. Also, the CWI does fold down for easy passenger access.

I had one on a Honda Shadow I used to have.Took it to a machine shop and had a hole drilled in each bracket and tapped to install 1/4 inch pipe plug with allen heads.Makes the backrest more stable and not move around and also where some one couldn't just pull it out and walk off with it. Could not understand why they didn't do that from the factory.

I had the same problem on my 2007 RSV.I pulled the seat and tank and moved all the wires around, but the problem was still there.I then split the faring and put dielectric grease on all the radio connections in the big bundle next to the radio.I didn't know which one did what,so I pulled them all apart and seated them 3 or 4 times to make sure all the pins were clean and getting a good connection.Coated them all with dielectric grease when putting back together. My intercom level is still set at 13 where it was.So far,no more problems. You can use a small balloon or finger cot that fits tight over the microphone and then put the windsock back on over it to eliminate any wind noise you get through the headset with a passenger for very little cost.Mine is now clear and static free.

I had the same problem.Tried to move the wires under the tank, but that didn't help either. Finally split the fairing and took all the connectors in the bundle beside the radio apart and put diaelectric grease in all of them.Pulled them apart and put them back together 3 or 4 times to make sure they were getting a good connection.I didn't know which one it was,so I did them all.I figured they needed it.So far,no more noise.

Risers & flanders?
Hotrod replied to jimmydsmith7's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Can any one give a ballpark figure to how much the total cost of this swap is? I have the Gen-Mar risers and they made it much better, but like the others,i don,t like the bars hitting the tank cowl. Also,my hands tend to go to sleep on longer rides and was wondering if this would help.I used to have a Honda Shadow 1100 and never had that problem, but handlebars had different angle at the grips.
