My Feelings On 2nd Gen Venture
KiteSquid replied to JOE MCDERMOTT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
GOOD NEWS!!!! Now go out and take a motorcycle riders safety course on your RSV, to feel even more confident on it -
Well I had a chance to use the Piaa Intesnse White H4 bubls the othere day and I like em. I think they are well worth the $23 per bulb price. I parked my bike next to riderduke's bike and compared his stock bulb to my Piaa bulb and the Piaa was whiter, and brighter in both the low and high beams. I aslo compared it to my friend's stock H-D bike and I like the Piaa bulb over what his stock bulb is. BTW this is a LOT les expensive than HID............. Now to get a set of passing lamps or some driving lights and get the matching Intense white H3 bulbs....... It is going on my Christmas List....

Improving Airflow Behind the Lower Fairing
KiteSquid replied to davelusk's topic in General Tech Talk
in hot weather, I removed the clear plastic deflectors that are on the bottom of the upper fairing. You have to remove the cover to get at the 3 screws each. Also, note that the 3 screws are NOT the same size, so I reinstalled the screws, so I would not loose them or get them in the wrong order when I wanted to re-install the deflectors. A PITA, but it works for me. I wish that the deflectors were easily removable, but then somebody would probably take them..... -
you have air in the line.... Bleed them again, and make sure the reservoir does NOT run dry during the progress.

If I am not susposed to ride after I turn 50, I had better ride as often as I can NOW!!!!! I only have 7 years left:rotf::rotf::rotf:

If you want a good meter buy Fluke branded meters. I used them in hte US Navy and I am rough on equipmnet. I never broke one. If you want to go the inexpensive route, look at Harbor Freight, but by 2 as most of HF tools are cheep, they sometimes are inexpensive, also...

KiteSquid replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I live in King George, about 15 minute drive after you cross the Harry W. Nice Bridge on 301 south. Come on by and use my jack anytime. -
Great Idea for an Interior Trunk Light!
KiteSquid replied to dragerman's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
I dont know how the current hood lights work.... it could be magetic, or a pendulum or rolling ball. the Murcery switches shure had low resistacne tho.... and worked too well on the Pinball machines I used to play in my youth:rotf: -

I don't know if it is a Larin but can you return it??? HERE is what looks like the same jack, but with a diffrent paint job but at a MUCH lower price. I have the harbor Freight lift, and have no complaints. -

I don't think the EPA has allowed Mercury in switches sense the 1970's. I think a magnetic switch would work without the hazardous materials. They also stopped putting them in pinball machine tilt circuitry about the same time. I have not seen mercury switches in parts catalogs that I have around. -

Can you add loops for attaching ratcheting tie down straps? I would think that the preferred location would be on the legs, as I assume that if you are using the model without legs people attach the straps to the jack. Or could you weld some round rod to the tops of the cross tubes? this would allow me to pass a tie down strap thru the tubes without them getting cut by the ends of the tubes... Also, are the legs splayed out left and right? The photos show that they are splayed forward and aft. I am looking for stability. -

My father told me of a trip from Denver to Cheyenne with one of his brothers on an Indian Chief in the early 1940's Somewhere on the way, the charging system broke, so they got a used car battery from a farmer. Strapped it to the rear fender with bailing wire and the passenger had to "support" it, to keep it from falling off... Got about 1/2 of the way to Cheyenne and then the rain started, got about 3/4 of the way and then the hail started. back then, there were no gas stations, or bridges over the highway to hide in..... When they got home, they were walking bruises for about a month. A ride that I don't want to emulate....... As Yamahawg stated: If you ride, you will get wet, sometime. That is why I ride a touring bike and ALWAYS carry a rain suit. I guess I am a weather whimp...

Vibrates going up hill in 5th gear
KiteSquid replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just wish the RSV had a 6th gear at about .5:1 OD...... while cruising at highway speeds, I keep looking for another gear. I also wish the RSV had helical cut gears throughout the transmission, for noise reduction. I listen to my transmission, and day dream that it is the gears in a supercharger:rotf: -
ebay works the same way. in proxy bidding, i just bid my highest at first, and if I loose, oh well.....

Need Owners Manual
KiteSquid replied to JOE MCDERMOTT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Also if you go to http://www.starmotorcycles.com/ adn regester your bike by clicking the My Star link at the top of the page, you can dowload it from Yamaha's server..... dont click the Buy Manualy Online link, unless you want a paper version..... -
Look for foam from somebody who does upholstery or at your local fabric store. It comes in lots of thicknesses and firmness, so you can stack different types to get the feel you want. I am not an expert, but also don't let your local people snow you as to what is available........

REMEMBER it comes with a salvage title...... that will hurt resale, but if you plan on riding it for a long time, the point is moot.

UMMMMM.... where do I purchase patches??? They are not in the VR Store link....
-
I am SURE it is all about technique..... I assume the 3 points to use are BUT PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, or if there are other points to remember: 1)Look WHERE you want the bike to go. 2)Slip the clutch 3)Slip the REAR brake The combination of 2 & 3 keeps the suspension from moving. IF you tap the front break, you WILL drop the bike. The excess wear on the rear brakes and clutch are probably worth it. I am putting the DVD on my Christmas list:) I just hope MrsSquid gets it for me... then I will have a good excuse to buy a replacement set of rear brake pads and a clutch:rotf: Update: I just read about the discount, and WILL order soon...

Does anybody who has wached the training videos have positive/negative comments on the techniques demonstrated in the DVD????

My 2nd Gen is sick...
KiteSquid replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with GeorgeS, as a set of 4 plugs is inexpensive.
