If you have small hands, you can probally change the bulb without opeining the fairing. I have XXXL Meathooks, so I had to split the fairing, just to make it easyer for me....

What I THINK they are saying is that from the factory, the speedometer reads about 5-7% Faster than the actual speed, but the odometer reads correctly. The speedometer reading Faster than actual speed is OK with Yamaha's lawyers as it is an error on the side of caution. HOWEVER, if you install the product called a SpeedoHealer to correct the speedometer error, the speedometer will read correctly however then the Odometer will read about 5-7% low..... The Speedometer and Odometer both get their signals from the same sensor in the final drive, therefore, they will read differently. Read FAQ #16 here: http://www.speedohealer.com/eng/faq.htm The correct fix would probably involve changing the firmware that controls the speedometer, something that Yamaha would have to tackle, as the reverse engineering is beyond most people, and is cost prohibitive..... Who is special purpose computer smart???? Maybe someone here would like to tackle this issue. HOWEVER IMHO it SHOULD be VERY difficult, as if you you could figure it out, some unscrupulous person could "Roll Back" the odometers on used bikes to rip off people..............

If you look at the pipes, they are not pipes, but heat shields that are over the real pipes..... so the connectors will not get too hot. I did as stated above, and bent the connectors, however I think that there are 90 degree female connectors on the market... Soldering the wires on and potting them with RTV (silicone caulk) or epoxy is probably a better solution. this was done by somebody else here, but sadly I don't remember who...

Yes, from the wiring diagram, if you either remove fuse 37 or relay 38 it will disable the carb heaters. I however will not disable this system...

The H4 bubs drop right into the headlamp, but small hands would make it easier to install than using my meat-hooks...... I dont have a set of passing lamps.....yet.... so I dont know what bulbs fit them......

I retired from 20 years of service from the US Navy in 2001 at the ripe old age of 38. Yes I joined right out of High School. They gave me a pension. The first check arrived 1 month after retiring. It does not pay all the bills, so I am a government contractor (Beltway Bandit) supporting the US Navy. I plan on retiring from my second carrier somewhere between the ages of 62-65, depending on how my investments do. I currently participate to the maximum in the 401k at my employer, also I max out my Roth IRA. MrsSquid's employer does not offer a retirement plan, that is why she is job shopping. She maxes out her simple IRA. I hope this helps you, as you HAVE to take charge of your own retirement!!!!!!!

How do you remove spark plug wires?
KiteSquid replied to Vance's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On my internal combustion engines, I put some dielectric grease on the inside of the spark plug wire cap areas of the wires. This helps removal and keeps any water out. Of course i have never owned a Diesel engine:rotf: -
Why not Polish up the ones you have, and spray them with some Clear Polyurethane. Of course mask off the surfaces that rotate, like the hinge area and where the wear areas are.... Or just coat them without polishing them before hand, to keep that nice patina that is on any bike that gets ridden....

How do you remove spark plug wires?
KiteSquid replied to Vance's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have not remvoed the spark plugs from my bike yet so I cannot comment. I have looked in the Service Manual, and there is no special instructions for removal of the plugs, except to make sure to clean out any dirt from the head before removeing the plugs. If you dont have it yet, the Service Manual is dowloadable here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828 I am sorry that I could not supply more help. -
I agree that it is a very small con, but something to be aware of, also I think that I should remove it from the bike when I park it. Just trying to keep honest people honest.

black owl, did you find this information at this URL? http://www.lube-tips.com/focus/2005_02_02.htm As Tartan Terror stated, dont use oils with friction modifiers in wet clutch applications like the RSV and a LOT of other motorcycles on the market today, unless you like to replace clutches often.

After lots of thought, I put a flash memory based MP3 Player on my Christmas list instead of the CD Player......... It costs less, will not skip, does not take up space in the trunk, and I can take it off the bike and use it while mowing the lawn or on an airplane... However it is not controllable from the bike's audio control panel, and will require a custom made mounting bracket.

Does your cooling fan come on??

I do wish the RSV had more guages!!!!!! -
I feel your pain!!!!!! I found my 2007 RSV by making LOTS of phone calls....NOBODY answerd my e mails. Only two dealers within reasonable driving distance had bikes on the floor. None were in my local phonebook...... Only one bike was in my preferred color. I purchased it. the dealer does not use email. it was a SMALL dealership. He only gets one RSV in a year and he said mine has set on the floor for about 6 months with ony one tirekicker who has a 1st gen Venture but did not like the styling of the 2nd Gen. BTW, the dealer rides a 1st Gen too.... and he told me NOT to use the heel part of the shifter... After talking to several dealers, RSV's either sit on the floor for months, or minutes... too many factors to figure in on why... I got lucky and paid quite a bit under MSRP. Show them the advertisements from Cycletrader.com (Search for Yamaha Venture and put STAR in the search or you will get lots of personal watercraft too.....) The new 2007 RSV is being advertised at a low price of $14,328 OUT THE DOOR (Less your states sales tax) for out of state buyers at a dealer in Alabama right NOW.... which is less than what I paid for mine....

Whats The Best Oil?
KiteSquid replied to yamahamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just ordered some Amsoil ASE 10w-30 oil and a EaOM102 filter for my RSV. The ASE 10W-30 oil is accectable for wet clutch use!!!!!!! BTW, it is a combination of what oil you use, and how clean you keep it..... I also ordered hypoid gear oil fro the rearend of my RSF and oil, ATF and oil filters for my cages at the same time.- 25 replies

Does your cooling fan come on??
KiteSquid replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had to let my bike sit and idle for about 20 miunutes for it to come on. It ran for about 15 seconds, and did not come on for several minutes.... -

I put on the Stebel air horn using the Stainless Steel bracket that Carbon one sells. Mounting the horn was EASY using the bracket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The hardest part was figuring out where to mount the relay. this horn gets ATTENTION!!!!!!! it is LOUD!!!! I would like this horn on my cages to....... I think that the Stabel air horn should be the first upgrade that anybody puts on their bike, or that Yamaha should put them on at the factory!!!!!!!

The RSV is an OUTSTANDING bike, and much easyer to ride than my other bike. A 1950 H-D FL with tank shift and foot clutch. The RSV even has automatic timing adjustment. On my H-D you have to twist the left hangrip to chage the timing. The RSV even has suspension in the rearend.... When people say it is top heavy, dont beleve them, yes it weighs more than most other bikes on the road, but if you learn HOW to ride a touring bike, it is easy to manage.
