Brake pads are wear items. I don't care how many miles I get out of them. 10 or 100,0000 miles is OK by me. When they are worn to the wear indicating slots, I buy new ones. It's my life. My bike should accelerate, but it MUST stop!!!!!!!! I am currently on my first set of rear pads, and when I changed the rear tire, I noted one pad was worn more than the other, so I swapped them. I will probally go to HH compound pads next time.

IIRC Eastwood company makes a Zinc Tin plating kit for home use, but it is not a shinny as chrome, but you can do it at home. There might be some DIY tips for chrome plating at home, but PLEASE be careful with the chemicals if you try it!!!!!! READ and UNDERSTAND the MSDS for all chemicals!!!!!

Thanks, but I cant take the credit for researching it, I found it on the Internet. I just found the URL. Yes it would!!!!!!!!! one pint can of Seafoam costs about the same as one gallon of Camp Fuel, which is about an 8:1 ratio. but there is more...read below. That is probably too much. I would use about one third of the amount by volume. The Camp Fuel is 3 time more concentrated with the cleaning agent than Seafoam. so if you used the same amount of cleaning agent it come out to a 24:1 ratio!!!!!!!! There is no alcohol in Camp Fuel, just what we would use as a carburetor cleaning agent and some stabilizer (This is from the MSDS for Coleman Camp Fuel) Seafoam has is about 1/3 isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol) (According to Seafoam MSDS). MOST gas stations in my area sell gasoline that is 10% ethyl alcohol (AKA ethanol) so there is no need to add a fuel dryer as it is already in every tank of gas you buy. To check for ethanol in your fuel, get a small diameter test tube, so that you will waste very little fuel. Put some water in the tube (about 10% of the height of the tube). MARK this level!!!!! Fill the tube with gas from the pump and cover and agitate the tube for about 15 seconds. allow the water to settle out. if the level of water has gone up, it means you have ethanol in the fuel as the water you put in originally will bond to the ethanol and it will settle to the bottom, registering as an Ingres in volume..... properly dispose of the fuel and water in the test tube. I might add some Stabilizer to the tank if you plan on parking your bike for a month or more, say over the winter, but probably not otherwise.

I will probably take a good flaming for this but I have stopped using seafoam, and am using Camp Fuel instead. Here is my reasoning: Most gasoline now have Ethanol so the fuel drying part of Seafoam is moot. About 30% of Seafoam is what is in Camp Fuel at a much higher cost per ounce. I can get a gallon of Camp Fuel for about the same cost of a pint of Seafoam. That is about a 8:1 ratio. Read post #19 in the tread at THIS link.

Call a couple of shops in your area and ask what there hourly shop rate is. It varies by market. I have seen rates as low as $40 and as high as $80 per hour, I am sure it will be higher in places like New York City due to higher overhead. Remember this includes the price of labor, insurance, rent, employers part of Social Security, Taxes, permits, shop tool like an air compressor, the cost of EPA compliance, trash removal, etc... You might find some statistical data at your state department of labor.

There are a LOT of nasty substances that come out of a chrome shop that cost a lot of money to process. The process is also labor intensive. This drives up the price of chroming a part. Look at any new car and I bet you will find very few, if any, chromed parts. you will find shinny plastic and polished Stainless Steel but very little chrome due to the cost of processing the residue of the chroming process. You will still find chrome emblems on some high dollar cars, semi-trucks and lots of parts on Harley-Davidson motorcycles but the purchasers of these vehicles want the chrome parts and are willing to pay for them. There are still chrome shops around, but a lot fewer then there were in in the 1960's and 70's

Wal-Mart Optic lights
KiteSquid replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
BTW the Küryakyn Halogen Silver Bullet lamps (part number 2320) use MR16 bulb in the large size which is the same as the inexpensive Optronics lamp above, or a MR11 bulb in the small size (part number 2305), if you want higher or lower wattage or a different beam pattern search the Internet or there are some are at the hardware store in the low voltage lighting section (to save on shipping). Make sure you get a bulb with a front glass if that is what is installed in the lamp from the factory!!!!!!!!!!! I am not certain as I do not have a set of Küryakyn Silver Bullets on my bike. If anybdy has some of these lights installed on their bike, can the post the part numbers that are printed on the back of the bulbs??????- 23 replies

BTW those look like driving lights model number QH-7CC by Optronics that take a MR-16 style bulb. http://www.optronicsinc.com/images/qh7cc.jpg Click-able image There are other bulbs you can put in this lamp to get lower or higher wattage and narrower or wider beam patter.......... if you like.- 23 replies

Changing to helical cut gears would help, but it would increase the side thrust in the gear box, which would decrease your fuel economy and would wear them out sooner. I have not seen a gear change kit on the market for these bikes.......

Question re: 2nd Gen Valve Adjustment
KiteSquid replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Double check the fuel for water at the pump. get a test tube. put in a little water. mark the level of the water. Put in some gas from the nozzle. you want to put in about 10 times as much gas as water. cover and shake. allow to rest for a few seconds... take this time to fill your tank. note the level of the water. If it has gone up, there is either water or ethanol in the gas........ discard the gas and water safely. -
Wal-Mart Optic lights
KiteSquid replied to Carbon_One's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
UMM IMHO, where you mounted them makes you more visible to other drivers which is good. However, for illuminating the road, you will get a LOT of shadows due to the lights are a lot lower than your eye level. and in tight cornering they look like they will be the first thing to rub the road... so watch your alignment. I would probably move them to the top of the front crash bars, but i don't have the optional wind deflectors installed on my bike.- 23 replies
