pegscraper, I think I stand corrected. Doesn't the rear-end mounded speed sensor use the teeth on the ring gear for it's inductive pulses? I don't see any other toothed device in the diagram of the rear-end on pages E-2 and E-3 in the parts manual. And if it does get its pulses there, what is the difference in the ring gear in the RSV and the 1st Gen Vmax? I ask because the Parts manual does not list a part number or a number of teeth for the ring gear in the parts manual. OR is it just a different pinion gear between the two bikes? If so, I would like to meet the guy that designed the gears. I guess meant to say: IF you use a speedohealer type device, it does throw off the odometer while correcting the error of the speedometer or vice versa.... You can't have one without the other because both of them use the same rear-end mounted sensor. Now if someone could hack into the firmware in the dash to correct the speedometer and keep the odometer correct with the stock rear end gears, I'd be VERY happy!!!!

To me, Harbor Freight = Cheep tools, sold inexpensively. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, buy a tool there that is NOT on sale!!!!!!!!!!! I looked over the shoulder of the manager when he looked up a part for me and they had about a 400% markup listed for it... yes I know a single sample does not make for a good test, but WOW, that is what jewelry stores charge. No matter what tachometer you buy, you should take it to a maintenance day and compare it's reading to 4 or more tachometers hooked up to the same engine at the same time.... or get it calibrated. But for $35 (less if you can get it on sale) the HF multimeter with Tachometer is not a bad deal.....as long as it works. Click HERE to go there. BTW I have an analog Sun tachometer that I bought way back in about 1985.

It does throw off the odometer, and it mostly corrects the error of the speedometer.... Now if someone could get into the firmware in the dash to correct the speedometer and keep the odometer correct with the stock rear end gears, I'd be VERY happy!!!!!

Get Ride Like a Pro V DVD ASAP!!!! View the video several times!!!! Practice what is shown in the RLAP DVD Attend a MSF Rider safety course ASAP, then annually take the course again!!!!! Practice what is shown in the RLAP DVD LEAN the bike in turns, this is especially important at low speeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Practice what is shown in the RLAP DVD NEVER lower your bike. Get the drivers seat modified to make it NARROWER, and shorter. Practice what is shown in the RLAP DVD If you lower your bike, you will be decreasing the minimum turning radius, and than might get you in a LOT of trouble on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have forgotten to mention it but PLEASE practice what is shown in the RLAP DVD!!!!!!!! This will keep you alive!!!! I have a Sansa C250, so I just velcro-ed it to the front brake master cylinder.

Page I1 of the parts manual shows the coils, but it does not list a separate part number for the wires, so I would have to assume they are sold as one unit.

Which side? the side on the bike or the side on the battery tender???? IIRC, they are the same plug with reversed polarity. It makes sense to me that the plug on the bike, the exposed connector should be ground and the insulated half is hot. Battery Tender Plus instalation instructions are HERE. Look at the top of page 2.

Passing Lamp
KiteSquid replied to MidlifeVenture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
UMMMM the part number you gave STR-4XY35-10-00 is for a V-Star Sealed Beam passing lamp, which is the same as the sealed beam lamp for the RSV. It takes a PAR36 bulb. Click HERE to go to the Star Motorcycles website. The H3 Passing lamp is part number STR-4NK35-10-01 according to the Star Motorcycles website HERE which is the same part number for the H3 passing lamps from the Royal Star Tour Deluxe HERE. For me, the drawback with the lamps that take H3 bulbs is you cant change the beam shape. BTW, there are more than 100 different PAR36 size lamps that fit into the RSV passing lamp housing. I am going with one of theses but I have not made up my mind as I need to see what bulbs Yamaha put in the box and how I like them: 12 degree tall by 12 degree wide: Halco 107782 50 Watt, 5000 CBCP, 910 Lumens, 5000 hour life and cost $7.53 each Halco 107794 35 Watt, 3500 CBCP, 540 Lumens, 5000 hour life and cost $7.53 each 5 degree tall by 5 degree wide: Halco 107784 50 Watt, 25000 CBCP, 910 Lumens, 5000 hour life and cost $7.53 each Halco 107796 35 Watt, 17000 CBCP, 540 Lumens, 5000 hour life and cost $7.53 each They also make the 35 and 50 Watt bulbs in a 32 degree spread, but that is to tall for me. I have also found a few PAR36 bulbs that have two filaments in them, either for redundancy or run them both with the high-beams on empty roads.... The drawback is they cost about $30 each and have a much lower life.- 19 replies

I would LOVE to play with that setup!!!!!! How about scanning some parts, say a RSV engine to start with, and scaling it down to 1/12 scale and machining it.... COOL!!!!! but VERY expensive...

The Carbetune is made and sold by Morgan. Morgan Carbtune Ltd. is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland Click HERE to go to their website. I think they only sell direct, but you could search the Internet for Carbtune You might pick one up used on eBay. but make sure it is a 4 channel unit as Morgan made some 2 channel units. Here is an idea: coordinate a Meat and Eat in your area, and ask all who show up if they have one............. it helps to cut the learning curve too.

My vote is for the tires. Get some Avon Venoms under your scoot soon.

According to Kelly Blue Book online the price of $12705 is for a bike with average mileage which would be 5,300, so to me $11,100 is a fair price but maybe a little high considering the bike has an extra 5,200 miles on it. NADA online lists the 2008 RSV from $11,195 to $14,730. BTW, did you note the scratches on the trunk, saddle bag, finder and the marks on the windshield? They are the last four photos in the list

Too bad I already have a RSV and no free cash, or I'd be on that bike faster than a tick on a hound dog. I hope your fiduciary situation straightens its self out soon.

I note in the e mail the mixed use of proper English and the shorthand that some people use on their cell phones to text message. Also the use of all capital letters is suspect.
