Adjustable upper wind deflectors
KiteSquid replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are you sure he was talking about Yamaha motorcyles???? The '08 or '09 H-D Ultra Classic has them from the factory and can be back fit into some older H-D bikes.... I would LOVE to have adjustable upper wind deflectors. these are the clear ones on the bottom of hte fairing. Kuryakyn makes Dragon Wing Variable Air Deflectors for some bikes. I contacted them and there is no plan to make them for the 2nd Gen RSV........- 6 replies

The base of the lift looks to me that it is wider than most of the other lifts on the market. The 360 degree turntable looks cool!!!!!! I'll probably just use the cheep and inexpensive Harbor Freight lift I already own for many years to come....

I don't think the rear splines get splashed with rear lube. Mine was dry on disassembly. There is a hole that is drilled thru the female part of the rear spline that connects to the rear drive, but it is very high in the rear end and spins, so centrifugal force would spin any gear oil off of it. When you disassembled your bikes rear end, did you drain the final drive before removal? If not, if you tipped it, the rear spline would get gear oil on it. I do think the rear spline would benefit from some Moly60 on it as well as the final drive gears could too... I added a pea sized ball of Moly60 to my final drive.....

KiteSquid replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
YamaDuck, Thanks!!!!! I was confused by the undefined acronym. -
Scott2007's link above takes you to where you can download the Yamaha Factory Service Manual for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!! Down load the parts book too, so you can see how things are put together and you can get the part numbers for anything that needs replacement. Be forewarned The Service manual is about 13 Meg file....... I print just the pages I need, get em greasy while I am working on the bike, and I just throw them away and print again when I need it....... The advatage to having the Clymer manual also, is they sometimes show alternatitave methods and tools...

Are you sure you are removing the drive shaft? It sounds like your are removeing the pinion gear. Click HERE to downoad the 2nd Ventuer Parts Diagramsand the FACTORY Service Manual for FREE!!!!!! Look at the parts diagram. Page E2 number 32 is the drive shaft. It is about 18" long. The pinion gear is not numbered but it is located between nuber 13 and 14. DO NOT remove the Pinon gear!!!!! The drive shaft is located in a long tube that is part of the Rear Arm on pge E1 of the parts list. If you look in the Service Manul there is a GREAT drawing on page 7-78, the drive shaft is part number 3. This also starst the removeal and replacement procdure, but you have to remove the rear wheel first (Page 7-11) Drive shaft removal and replcement procedure is in teh Service manual located in the VRTech secton

Coolant and Brake Fluid - '07
KiteSquid replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The problem with tap water is the minerals tend to plate the insides of the radiator etc lowering the efficiency of the cooling system Using distilled water is better for your vehicles in the long run, and it is not too expensive. -
I don't mind paying a "velocity tax" but what I hate is insurance premium hikes due to tickets... So I try not to get tickets.

removed cassette, added gauges......done
KiteSquid replied to jlh3rd's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Has anybody found a shallow or surface mount gauge set? I would like to see a voltmeter, oil pressure, coolant or oil temp and ammeter. OR better yet, a multifunction display that would fit......but that would cost more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ -

Coolant and Brake Fluid - '07
KiteSquid replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Changing the brake fluid and coolant bi-annually is cheep insurance. I would rather change the fluids than have to rebuild a slave cylinder........... A lot less taxing on the frustration factor as well as the wallet. -
Handle Bar Risers
KiteSquid replied to midnightsunrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I assume you have rotated the bars up as far as they will go. The riser will move the rotation point aft, which will allow you to rotate further up as they don't hit the fairing as soon.......... it is what I did. I am 6'6" tall but only have a 35" sleeve length. -
Sure they can... 3 guys can load a full dresser in a pickup in under 2 minutes. Into a van in 3 minutes as they have to break off or remove the windshield. Remember that most bikes stolen by the pros is for parts, not a running bike as the individual parts are worth more than the assembled bike. However, some complete bikes do get shipped overseas. Don't believe me???? Call your insurance agent or local Police force to see how you they can steel it, so you can try to prevent theft. Are there any LEOs on the forum that would care to comment? Another good source is HERE A good thing for us, if you look at the Lost Ride database HERE only 6.2% of the regestered stolen bikes are Yamaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before buying a RADAR detector read the article at THIS link. It is an old article but 99% of the informaion is still good. I used to use a police band scanner for long range RADAR trap detection. I would just listen for ANY traffic on the Mobile Extender frequencies. It would tell me if there was a Highway Patrol Officer within about 3 miles. If there was, I would just slow down and get in the B lane. It saved my bacon about 30 times in the years I used it. Pop over the hill and the RADAR detector would be instanlty maxed out as the LEO was using instant on RADAR... Then a RADAR detector.... If the RADAR detector activated, it was usually to late... The scanner worked better. but with the new trunked systems, I don't know if the Mobile Extender frequencies have shifted or are still operable in all states. Are there any scanner operators here???? I have just learned to slow down.... I think. Only one speeding ticket in 15 years without using a RADAR detector or scanner.
