So, what does this kit do to the all important "friction zone"????

The Yamaha factory service manual (which is free to download from this site) on page 2-9 states Intake vacuum 37 kPa (280 mmHg) at an Engine idle speed of 950 - 1,050 r/min The procedure for synchronizing the carburetors starts on page 3-14 HOWEVER I understand that carburetor one and two are backwards in the writeup. There is a note on page 3-15 that is important

Shell Rotella® T Synthetic 5W- 40 oil (Look for the blue jug) http://www-static.shell.com/static/rotella-en/images/products/synth_cj4.jpg The oil is about $20 for a one gallon bottle at Walley-World. GREAT protection at a great price. It has and OUTSTANDING additive package for wet clutch applications like our bikes. On a side note, I use a Purolater Pure One filter (part number PL14612) which I get at Advance Auto Parts where I get a 10% military discount. http://partsmart.boschwebservices.com/RB/NA/AUTO/AFTERMARKET/PARTSMART/PartSmartImages/PL14612.jpg This it probably the best filtering filter on the market. Another filter would be the proper sized EAO series filter from Amsoil, but the price including shipping is in my experience higher.

Rear Brake questions
KiteSquid replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would recommend replacement of rotors and drums over machining them. When you remove mass, you increase the chance that the part will warp therefore you will have to go through the labor more often. BTW, how did you know I have an uncle named Bob????? -
Running lights for front of bike

They stopped using DU a while back. They are now using Tungsten Carbide, or so I am told..... No issues with leaving heavy metals laying around... -
Is there a CB antenna for sale anywhere?
KiteSquid replied to Nemo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you have a 1999 RSV, your antennas fold for using a motorcycle cover. There is a knurled section at the base of each antenna, lift it up and the IF the antenna was properly installed at the dealership it should fold forward. Mine were installed backwards so they folded aft...... I fixed that!!!!! Check the notes on pages 4-12 and 4-16 of the owner's manual. If you look at page I5 of the parts manual, part #36 is the CB antenna, but part #33 is the picture of the FM antenna but is labeled as the CB antenna...... your Yamaha dealer should be able to help you. OR somewhere here there are directions on how to swap out the antennas with aftermarket parts. regrettably I don't have the URL handy.- 12 replies

Use some Honda Moly60 grease or if you have deep pockets you might try some Krytox 214 to grease your splines, and drive fingers.

Passing lamps Use one switch to make them only come on with the low beams, off or on all the time. this way you can pass vehcle inspections when needed or you can have more light. Driving lights to come on only with the high beams. when thees come on, the passing lamps turn off. Musical horn ala The Dukes of Hazzard Nitrous Oxide kit Use one of the switches to arm and then a micro switch on the thottle linkage to fire it, or use a progressive system if there is one made for bikes. I had 150 HP kit on a 1986 Corvette and THAT was a LOT of fun!!!!!!!! Public Address (PA) system that blasts a MP3 recording of a V twin with straight pipes..... turn it on to agitate others, and turn it off when pulled over for exessive noise and you have factory Yamaha exhaust, so it is kitten quite............ it would REALLY confuse the LEOs Or a REALLY LOUD PA system with a recording of a Calopie playing Entrance of the Gladiators to play when you are next to a cage with a really obxnous stereo, if they refuse to turn it down.....

Mounting New Tires
KiteSquid replied to krp41151's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I took the tires off of my bike and a local car tire shop mounted and balanced my mail order tires for $8 each. I cant buy tire irons and a static balancer for that LOW price, not including the amount of effort is required on my part to use tire irons... The shop let me stand and watch them in the shop while they worked. I verified the rotation of the tires on the rims before mounting and they were correct. I inspected the wheel bearings, changed the gear oil in the rear end, swapped the rear pads around to get more wear out of them and greased the drive shaft splines with Honda Moly60 grease while I was at it. Shop around!!!!!!!!! Buy or borrow a bike lift, if you don't have one. -
Several questions: What size of flag do you want to display? How many flags will you be flying? What is the MAXIMUM relative wind speed you will experience with the flag/s flying? Relative wind speed is the vector summation of the vehicle vector and the true wind vector.

Stebel Nautilus Compact Motorcycle Air Horn - Chrome
KiteSquid replied to TEW47's topic in Watering Hole
You can put one on the right side of the RSV where one of the stock horns is. CarbonOne sells a stainless steel bracket in the classifieds... I dont know how to mount one on the left side of the bike.............. -

You will probably have the clutch wear out quicker, but IMHO, it is worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!! The good thing about having a wet clutch bike that shares the engine oil is the clutch will stay cooler than a dry clutch (like most cars with a manual transmission) or a wet clutch that has a separate oiling system (Like most H-D's) The down side is the worn off friction material gets dumped into the oil, so that is why I use a high efficiency oil filter (e.g.: PureOne from Purolator or EAO from Amsoil) and change it every 4,000 miles.
