  1. from a previous post of mine:
  2. I had to let my bike idle for about 10 minutes before the fans ran.....
  3. I would like to set my float levels and will attempt it when I have the time and the weather is bad enough so I don't want to ride. I will read the procedure in the shop manual that I downloaded from this site for free but more importantly, I will read the procedure posted in the VRTech section. I do hope it improves my fuel economy and I do like the feeling I get when I get to turn some wrenches on my vehicles. THANKS for the motivation to do this REQUIRED procedure!!!!!!
  4. I recomend lifting the U-Joint spline with a magnet, thur the hole listed above, to get the dirve shaft to slide in easly. BTW, Did you use Honda Moly60 grease on your splines?????
  5. Guindalf, you are NOT alone Well we are rowing in the same boat, as I got my lay off notice today too.... I have been with the company 7 years 10 Months and this it the third time they have told me that my funding has been cut by the customer. I work as a Government Contractor AKA Beltway Bandit. On the previous two instances I found another job in the company with only one day unemployed, and I am currently beating the bushes to see what jumps out... But I am not holding my breath. I do hope I find a job. I am on my way to talk with another manager in the company but his employees spend about 40% of their time on travel. Not bad if I can keep my current pay as there is non-taxable per-diem involved, but spending that much time away from family, kites and my motorcycle might be the deal breaker for that job. Oh, but I do have to praise MrsSquid, as she makes sure that my toys are paid for with cash, so my RSV is safe.
  6. I would add, that in the morning drain the carburetor bowls, to get the gunk out through the drain instead of running it thru the jets... Then when you got it running, let it idle for a LONG TIME, like an entire tank of gas, with a full can of seafoam in it, to really clean out the idle circuit. While idling, have a box fan blow air across the bike. yes it is liquid cooled, but it would not hurt to have some air moving across the oil pan.... OR use Camp Fuel instead of Seafoam, to bring the cost down.
  7. I would like one of the red and black Valkyrie Interstates!!!!!!! http://www.jerryeasley.com/Portals/0/valkyrie.jpg (photo from the internet) WICKED cool bike!!!!!!!!! 6 cylinder boxer engine. Lots of HP. There is a video on youtube of a guy doing a wheelie on one...
  8. Seeing your drawing reminded me of the mercury oral thermometers from my youth, sometimes they needed to be "shaken down" if there was a break in the column of mercury, and they are a sealed instrument... Sounds like you experienced the same issue, but I would not recommend "shaking down" the mercury in a manometer as they are NOT a sealed instrument. Good job on correcting your issue.
  9. What do you mean by a "separation of mercury"??? IF you are referring to different readings in the tubes, you have to synchronize your carbs to make them even. If you are saying there is a bubble of water in the mercury, I would have to see a photo. Each channel should have a solid column of mercury with no breaks. To make sure ANY manometer is reading right, which it should until the earth's gravity changes, you can hook all four tubes to the same vacuum source at the same time using some of the plastic fittings from the hardware store or auto parts store.
  10. Quicker way: 4 guys and a pickup truck or full sized van can take a full dresser (yes even the heavyweight goldwing) in under 30 seconds.
  11. for clean oil, get the Purolater PureOne filter. To save a few bucks on the filter, get whater filter fits...... but your oil wont be as clean as with the PureOne filter.
  12. I am using Yamaha Factory installed pipes and mufflers.
  13. I don't have any photos up on the web. but I should get some up..... I am asking $18,000 for it. I am not trying too hard to sell it as where would I find another??? If someone comes up with the $$$ then she is gone...
  14. I own two bikes right now. A 2007 Yamaha Royal Star Venture A 1950 Harley-Davidson FL Guess which one is for sale.
  15. I had no problem with the Mercury Manometer I bought from Saber Cycles. I wont be buying any gold wing parts from them, as I dont own a gold wing.......

I have a question for those of you who have viewed it: Did you go buy your own copy of RLAP V? Don't forget to ask for your VentureRider forum discount. And again, I am not connected with RLAP, I just want my fellow bikers to have a long and healthy life on two wheels and anyway that we all can learn to ride safely is a good thing!!!!!! BTW, if you are tired of waiting, or would like to purchase your own copy please click HERE to order and be sure to ask for your Venture Rider Forum member discount. IIRC it saves you $5. BTW this DVD is worth every penny!!!!!!!
  17. Did your friend thow away the old jets or are they in a box in his garage?????????
  18. GREAT, At least you did it at a separate time, unlike me!!!!!!!! I expect the same for my bike, more longevity!!!! Please let us know what you find out with your drive shaft splines, splines between final drive and the clutch hub and pins on the clutch hub that go into the rear wheel.
  19. I use a Harbor Freight jack and some wood blocks to lift my RSV.
  20. Interesting job, and it probably comes with an employee discount on parts......... I wonder what their benefits package includes......
  21. PLEASE report your results with Honda Moly60 grease!!!!!!!!!! Splines 3 places and the fingers of the "Clutch Hub" are were it should be used. I added some to my Gear Lube in the final drive, but PLEASE don't untill you try your splines. It can be added to the Gear Lube later, but cant be taken out. I would like to see if your noise is from the splines or the final drive.
  22. It very well could. there is a path that the drive-shaft rear spline grease can flow into the final drive. How much grease did you apply to your splines? I apply with a paint bush and try to make sure I don't over-lubricate. I also added about a pea sized amount of Honda Moly60 to the gears in my final drive, at the same time I lubed my splines and clutch hub pins with Honda Moly60 and most of my bikes noise is gone. Click HERE to read a thread about it.
  23. Thanks!!!!! GREAT slide show.
  24. Could someone with "the noise", that has changed the final drive gear oil to no avail, PLEASE lube their drive shaft splines with Honda Moly60 and report back if it corrected the noise???? I think that it was where 90% of the excess noise my bike was making came from, but regrettably I changed the final drive gear oil (That I fortified with some Honda Moly60) at the same time, so I can't be certain.
  25. What really quieted my bike down was using Honda Moly60 grease on the splines of the drive-shaft, the splines that connect the final drive to the clutch hub and drive pins that connect the clutch hub to the rear wheel. I have not noticed a big difference with the engine oil. What have you used to lubricate the parts I listed above?
