IMHO you should attach the ground for any new equipment at the point where the battery ground wire attaches to the bike. This SHOULD limit ground loops but sometimes not, if the equipment has any internal bonding.

I have not had a 15% or 20% coupon for HF in a long time...
KiteSquid replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Watering Hole
ASK the manager to apply it before you order. He might do it...... they have a lot of leeway as the markup at HF is high..... -
Do they make it in the right size? Are they waterproof? E.g.: "or marine applications" listed on the packaging. Will they fit? E.g.: are they too deep? Can you please provide a URL to the model you were thinking about at manufactures web site?

Insurance. I would rather have someone steal the bike and me never to see it again than to have it vandalized by a novice trying to disable the alarm........

Rotella Syn users: Miles between changes
KiteSquid replied to Jethroish's topic in General Tech Talk
I change the oil and filter every 4,000 Miles (6-7 km). The service manual has you replace the oil filter every other oil change, but for me, a filter is inexpensive compared to mechanical failure. Engine, transmission and clutch share the same oil, so if I can get clutch fibers out of suspension quicker has to be better for the rest of the system. -
This is GREAT news, as I have my RSV and it's value should be going up as no new models will be available!!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!! IF Yamaha makes a Vtwin Venture, I will NOT buy one. I prefer the smoothness of a four or more cylinder motorcycle. IF Honda were to bring back the Valkyrie Interstate, with the current 1800cc engine, I would seriously consider buying one!!!!!!

Look up lighting supply in the yellow pages. Hardware and auto parts stores carry only a few bulbs but a good lighting supply can get you LOTS of choices. Tell them you want PAR36 form factor and 12 Volt filaments.... two screw lugs help to hook up to Yamaha's supplied wiring.

http://www.pilotshop.com/catalog/images/Various/rejex-small.jpg I use rejex. I apply it to painted, chrome, plastic and glass surfaces of my motorcycles and cars. It works GREAT and seams to last a long time as long as it is applied to a clean surfaces that do NOT have wax on them as the wax breaks down and the rejex falls off with it.... Their website is HERE I normally buy it online at SkyGeek HERE I understand the US Military uses it on helicopter canopies. I apply and remove the haze with microfiber cloths I get inexpensively at Costco.- 15 replies

The factory service manual is down-loadable for FREE and it has this information in it. Click on the VRTech link in the bar on the left hand side of this web page. it is about 13 MB. I printed a copy and put it in a three ring binder in my garage and have it on my home PC... That said the Service Manual, Maintenance Specifications table on page 2-9 states HOWEVER, I was unable to reach the level listed in the manual so I adjusted for the maximum vacuum to be even across all cylinders. The procedure for synchronizing the carburetors starts on page 3-14.

external 12v power supply idea help please
KiteSquid replied to jimmyenglish's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Or hook up an alternator to run off of one of the trailer tires. I got the idea from a hot rodder who moved his alternator to the rear end of his car, to clean up the engine bay. for your application, a small one would do. BUT it would probably be easier to put a photovoltaic array on the lid of your trailer like previously discussed. -
AND the Rotella T6 is JASCO MA certified, so it meets Yamaha's warranty requirements.

I this the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Advanced Rider Course, Sport Bike Techniques???? I ask as I could not see where the acronym ARC-ST was defined. If it is, would I be able to take the course on a Yamaha Royal Star Venture (RSV)? I agree, now I have to get out more often and practice!!!!!!

IIRC those lights use a MR16 bulb with a front lens. If you want different wattages or beam patterns you can go to your local lighting supplier for MANY options..... Take the bulb with you to verify type.

UMMM what is a "go pro"???? Why cant I see it in the video??? I also notice that you do not come to a complete stop at any of the stop signs.....

Just make sure you get the keys with the long shank. I had some made and they did not work. Took em back in, and they made another set with the longer shanks.... they came out of a box that said "Motorcycle keys" on it..... I now have at least four spare keys. Cost about $2 each at an True Value hardware store. If you search the forum for the word KEY you should come up with the proper bank numbers, but the blank numbers: Ilco ym63, Taylor X 248, Curtis yn 63, Silca yh35r. of course CHECK eveyr copy in all four locks on your bike before you pay for them.....

KiteSquid replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rotella T6 (full synthetic, 5W-40) has a JASCO MA rating, which is what Yamaha calls for in my service manual. I don't know about the other formulations of Rotella, but the web site is HERE if you want more information.
