It is on the left. You are correct. So if you run out of fuel, you MIGHT be able to lay the bike on the left side crash guards for a few seconds and get some fuel to the left side........ maybe...

Help - Grease for Spline
KiteSquid replied to JCB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Depending on WHERE you look in the manual it will also tell you to use a Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly) bearing grease. Page 7-91 says to use Moly on the drive shaft splines..... IF you want your bikes drive shaft and splines between the final drive and rear wheel to last more than say 50K miles you should use Moly grease..... I recommend using Honda Moly60 as it is easily available and inexpensive when compared to other Moly greases....... It is available for the best price at a Honda or Acura CAR dealership for under $8...... heads up it is 3 Oz of grease in a 6 Oz tube, so don't be shocked when it is only half full....... $8 is INEXPENSIVE compared to a drive shaft and any related worn out parts....... I apply it with an Acid Brush from the plumbing department of the hardware store. I cut the bristles off to about 3/8" length. A little of this grease goes a LONG way. 3 Oz is a LIFETIME supply for me.... -

Speedometer 10% fast
KiteSquid replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just because the speedometer reads high, does not mean the odometer reads high. I will try to test this with my bike on a LONG trip in August against roadside mile markers and my GPS vs my bikes odometer. -

I did not check your route but when in Tucson Arizona, if you see an Eegee's you must stop for an eegee Cold and yummy!!!!!!! Click HERE to see their website. When I am in New Mexico I stop at a Blake's Lottaburger for a green chile cheeseburger.... low brow food, but a taste I must have. Click HERE to go to their website. OR if you eat in any New Mexaco local restraunt and are having a cheeseburger, ask for green chile..... if they dont have it, eat elsewhere.......... Someday I would like to eat at every restraunt on the New Mexico’s Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail

rickardracing, What side of your bike, when viewed from the rear, is the CB antenna on? The CB antenna is the one with the black plastic lump (AKA load) in it.

Like stated above, DON'T use DOT 5 as it is Silicone based and will destroy the seals in most brake systems. Also it is NOT miscible with water, so you have to change it much more often. Most people who use it change it monthly.......... but it is usually in race cars. DOT 3 and DOT 4 are usable. Change the fluid annually. I like using Valvoline Synthetic fluid as my local auto parts store carries it. http://www.valvoline.com/admin/p28.png BTW DOT 5.1 is usable in our bikes but I have not found it on any auto parts shelf.... maybe I could find it at a "speed shop".

You can download the factory service manual for FREE from the link in the VRTech section to read all the factory maintenance procedures. HOWEVER there is an occasional error, like in the carburetor synchronizing procedure they number the carbs incorrectly...... gotta love Yamaha.

Stitch65, What year and model (e.g.: RSV or Tour Dulexe) is you bike? What page of the manual did you find this informaiton on??? I cant find it in mine. I have a 2007 RSV and on page 9-1 there is a chart that sayto use 10W30 from 10-100 F and to use 20w40 from 40-120 F air tempss. I normally use Rotella T6 full synthetic all year which is 5W-40 and JASO MA certified so it meats warantee requirements.

Cant you get a set at your local Yamaha dealership??? From page F4 of the parts manual: 4NK-26241-00-00 GRIP (LEFT) (About $US 16 on the internet) 4XY-26240-00-00 GRIP ASSEMBLY (RIGHT) (about $US 37 on the internet)

How do you pick this d***n thing up!!!
KiteSquid replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am 6'6" tall and can pick my 2007 RSV up, and have on several occasions. it is all technique and getting your butt low enough on the seat to lift with your legs.... I push back more than lift up.... it starts off slow and gets quick soon, so take your time, and make sure you are NOT on an adrenaline high....... -
There is no major difference between a 1999 and a 2010 RSV. they are the same except for color of paint, amount of chrome, changed the seat from standard to "pillow top" and in 2010Yamaha included the (imho POS) 6 disk CD changer with the bike....... If a part fits on one bike between those years it will fit on ALL bikes.... and maybe the 2011 when it comes out......but that is speculation on my part.
