  1. I too found this information on page 2-17 of the FREE to download services manual.
  2. I looked in the owners manual for my 2007 RSV and it too uses the DPR8EA-9 from NGK. SO I tak the sheet that dingy proviede and come up with this: Thread Diamater D: 12 mm Construction P: Projected Insulator Type R: Resistor Type Heat rating nubmer 8: 8 in a sacle from 2 (Hot) to 11 (Cold) Fireing End Clonstruction E: Electrode (14mm only) 1.5mm Insulator A: Special Design Wide Gap (Gap Width) 9: 0.9MM (0.032") dingy, Thanks for the chart.
  3. Something thin and waterproof. I use this: http://www2.dupont.com/Consumer_Lubricants/en_US/assets/images/pg_multiuse.jpg DuPont Performance Lubricants - Multi-Use Lubricant with DuPont Teflon Fluoropolymer, 11 oz Aerosol Spray To go to DuPont's web site, click HERE
  4. Don't know what the LEOs would say about it but here you go...... http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/69165/2/istockphoto_69165_armadillo_hat.jpg
  5. ANY motorcycle jack works with this bike but the Harbor Freight jack is about the lowest cost option. it is currenlty on sale for UD$80 and they will normally take 20% off of that price if you use a coupon. This is the jack I have. CarbonOne makes a jack adapter that make lifing these bikes a DREAM!!!! He usually has them listed in the calassifed section. Click HERE to go to the ad. It is on my Christmass list.....
  6. Did you drain the gear oil BEFORE removing the final drive from the motorcycle? If not, when you removed it, you may have tipped it in such an angle that the gear oil got onto the rear splines.
  7. It is a safety feature. it allows you to kill the engine without taking your hands from the grips, in case something like the throttle sticks open..
  8. I dont think the rear splines are lubricated by the final drive's gear oil, I believe that it is lubricated by the grease that you put on them.... I say this because when I took the final drive off of two diffrent bikes there was no gear oil on the splines, just grease.
  9. Nice song. It was kinda neat with the mechanic angle. But where are the motorcycles??????? I did see the double row chain though.
  10. Too bad the Venture does not get rid of waste heat from the radiator BEHIND the rider.... This would help in hot weather, but would be undesirable during cold weather riding
  11. To make it more scientific, you should take a stock Yamaha headlamp out of a bike and mount it in an immovable fixture to assure all lamps were aimed at the same angles. if the fixture gets moved during testing, you must redo all previous tests!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so make SURE it is immovable. You need to do it on an overcast night well after sundown. or in a LONG warehouse like building where you can make it completely dark so ambient light does not bias the judges. get one or two film cameras with manual settings to document the beam-shots. Use the same power supply set at 13.5V which is the normal operating voltage of most bikes, preferably NOT a battery as the voltage will vary over time and temperature. Use the same OVERSIZED wiring to assure a level playing field. as little loss in the wiring and switching. There should be targets on the center-line of the beam and off axis to help with judging the coverage of the beams for throw and spill on low and high beam. This should be a blind test, meaning only one or two people know what bulb is being tested and they will NOT be judging the beam as they could be biased. These are just a few quick ideas I had, I might come up with more.... Does it show that I work in testing???????
  12. Thanks!!! for me it is a relaxing activity. Taking care of my machines.
  13. How many miles do you want to get out of your bike? The more often you properly lubricate the less often parts will wear out. I grease the drive shaft splines (Both ends) the splines and pins on the "Clutch Hub" at least once a year. I also use Honda Moly60 paste as it has a high Molybdenum Disulfide content at an affordable price.
  14. The shop manual is available in PDF format for FREE!!!!!!!!!! Look in the left hand column of any page here for the VRTech link. Drill down the 2nd gen and you will find a link to the manual and LOTS OF OTHER GREAT stuff like hte parts manual that I use to put things back together........ You can click HERE for a direct link to the Second Gen and Royal Star Technical Library I remove the old grease and grease with Honda Moly60 sparingly using an Acid brush from the plumbing department of a hardware store with the bristles cut off to about 3/8". The parts I grease are both ends of the drive shaft, the splines that connect the final drive to the rear wheel, and the pins on the "clutch hub" (Page 7-13 item 7) that connects to the rear wheel. Sense you will be removing the final drive, be sure to change the Gear Oil and have replacement seals for the drain and fill plugs as the Aluminum crush washers are single use items. I replaced mine with Nylon washers.
  15. If you want your driveshaft to last longer, use the Honda Moly60. it is about $7 for 3 Oz which is a LIFETIME supply. Get it at the Honda or Acura CAR delearship for the lower cost.. IIRC it is part number 08734-0001
  16. That is a good thing as it makes you more vissiable to others.
  17. never add wires to the battery. Always add wires to the end of the cable where the alternator and battery meet. Always use fuses. You might what to add a fuse block instead of a terminal block.
  18. I use RejeX on my factory windshield and it works good for me in the fog... I also use it on the painted parts, chrome.....etc. http://www.rejex.com/gifs/RejeXfamily.gif Click HERE to go to the manufactures web site. I normally buy it at SkyGeek HERE
  19. Please provide a photo of your broken part. We might be able to figure out a "fix" for it.
  20. Yamaha dealership should be able to order you one. I found it on the internet for as low as $45 and as high as $67 It is listed as a "Bolt,Cap" Part number 4XY-23111-00-00 Page E7, reference #5 in the parts listing. You probally will want to buy the O-Ring too. Part number 4NK-23147-00-00 Page E7, reference #6 in the parts listing.
  21. On 1st gen small block Chevrolet motors (IIRC 1954-2002), if you take the thermostat out the water circulates through the radiator and the front of the engine block, so the rear gets HOT..... This MIGHT be the same situation in our bikes, but I have not really looked hard at the coolant flow....
  22. 2nd on using Piaa Intense White H4 Bulbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friends don't let friends buy Silverstar bulbs.
  23. Harbor Freight has the Tag-Along Trailer for $329.99. I put it in the shopping cart and calculated shipping and tax and it only added tax.... Total price in Virginia is $346.49 HOWEVER in the fine print it does say: But if you can get it without the shipping charge it would be a nice deal..... UPDATE: I called a local HF store and they are not charging the shipping if you pick it up... I have a friend who rides a H-D that has been looking at them.... I'll call him and have him buy it, and I'll borrow it when I need it I might buy one and walk in with a 20% off coupon to see if I can get it at a better price......
  24. Is it wet clutch frendly???? I normally do NOT put in any addatives to my engine oil.
  25. I agree. I pay cash for my toys!!!!!!!!!!!
