  1. I have one I would let go for the cost of shipping and anything else you think is fair. Just let me know. I work a lot and I live where shipping seems to be high. I will do my best to get it out quick, but no guarantee lol. And I will only know shipping after checking to your address. P.S. I never used it, but I don't know how it could go bad.
  2. I had to use a small flat screwdriver and life one corner then the other. It will go just needs to be persuaded.
  3. This is just a quick look at one of my Mods. As I was unable to get my Audio or my CB to work, I removed/replaced my audio and removed my CB. When I was removing the CB I had an idea. At first I just wanted to flip the black box upside down as to access it from the bottom, but the trunk would not fit. After looking at it I then flipped it as well as installing it under the bracket rather then on top like normal. The bolts are now going from the bottom up rather then top down, so I added an extra nut and Loctite to secure. There is a hole where the wires passed through that I will be filling in at some point. I have plans to put a set of keys and some emergency cash in a ziplock bag and possibly with other items. I also plan to seal it shut with a small bit of RTV, as I do not plan to open it once shut unless needed. This should prove to be a nice water tight Hidey Hole.
  4. I started with the storage mod from http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/?action=category&cat_id=002003 (link won't take you to page, so click "click here" at bottom of page, then "2nd Gen", then "audio/CB", then "cassette deck to storage mod") I installed a Shark audio system from http://sharkmotorcycleaudio.com/#_l_ce I think it worked out well. I have not had time to get out and test it log term yet, but works well in the garage.
  5. If you don't find a fix you can always put on a limiting strap. I am thinking of removing the mechanism completely. Adding a strap on both side to stop over opening and for less stress on the hinges to stop poss cracks.

  7. This will be try #2 . I posted this question already, but showed my stupid and said head gasket not valve cover gasket. My bad, so here we go again. I know I should change them out with new ones, But something went wrong with the ones I ordered. I need to move and got to get the bike back up and running to move it. If I use some good high temp black, anyone think I have a chance of getting it sealed well? the gaskets look good still. Ok, so thanks for any help this updated post may get me.
  8. Sorry I keep putting my brain on hold when I post I ment the valve cover gasket not the head gasket.
  9. I know I should change with a new one, But something went wrong with the ones I ordered. I need to move and got to get the bike back up and running to move it. If I use some good high temp black anyone think I have a chance of getting it sealed well? the gaskets look good still. thanks.
  10. Not all that meany suggestions coming in on this? I looked threw the forums found some stuff, but most is old with broken links.
  11. Sorry miss spoke only done about 100 miles on the bike. in 5th it cuts out on me, but in 4th it holds speed and dosn't cut out on me.
  12. My CC was doing some on the same things in 6th, but I read on here that it only works in 4th and 5th gear, so in 5th it seems to hold better and not drop off?
  13. Hello everyone, I am looking for suggestions on where to get my hands on the cheapest valve tool? I would also like to fined a good place to get shims? For the tool I am willing to rent, borrow or buy whatever works out the cheapest and the quickest. For the shims I am willing to buy if anyone has a good place, but swapping with a member or a site would work well too. I live in ND and no members relay all that near to me, not sure how cost effective shipping is back and forth? Any help and suggestions is appreciated. Thanks
  14. I did see that the shipping on the Ride-On was way more for you guys, so may not be a option. The zip tie method though put with the jack stand balance method would put you at $180 plus cost of wheel weights. That is of course you are set up and able to do your own work.
  15. From the Ride on website. "Q: How does Ride-On (TPS) affect the tire manufacturer's warranty? A : Ride-On (TPS) is an inert tire sealant that does not attack or damage tires or wheels. Ride-On (TPS) contains anti-corrosive agents to help protect steel or aluminum wheels and tire belts from rust. Ride-On (TPS) has obtained letters from Bridgestone, Firestone, Continental, General Tire, Yokohama, Michelin, Goodyear, and Toyo Tires stating that the use of Ride-On (TPS) does not void their warranties, unless the damage to the tire or wheel has been caused by the sealant." This video shows product and talks about no need to balance tires. Just A few videos on the zip tie tire change method very cool. Dismount Mount I am new to forums. Please let me know if the is bad form or thread jacking? Is on topic I think. I'm just not sure how this all works. Thanks
  16. When it comes time to change a tire I am looking at this approximate calculation. Sound good at all? $180 for tire (your price). $14.95 Ride-on tire sealant for motorcycles +S/H = $21.09 (no balance needed and other benefits). $13.49 for enough Heavy 24" zip ties to dismount & mount two tires with left over ties. (can do better I'm sure just a quick Amazon check "prime" no S/H) = $214.58 with added benefits. (add in whatever your time is worth)
  17. Those are the same reasons I searched for a 99 to buy. I am in the stages of going over the bike to fix anything I fined, that I can fix, to be ready to ride when it gets warmer. I have found a few cracks and such, but so far nothing I cant deal with myself. I wish I had the time and money to do a nice restore, but that will be down the road a long ways lol. if you don't mined me asking did you paint it yourself, if not what did that run you? you have a very nice looking 99 good work.

  19. Sorry, forgot to mention. I was stationed at Elmendrof, AK with Korea as primary TDY and Mt Home, ID with Saudi as primary TDY
  20. Thanks again to all. I did get my USAF award, very cool. On another note I did check my rear shock, it looks to be in good shape no oil. I'm glad for that wife would of killed me if I had to shell out for that already. Brake pads look new on rear and good on front, but I will get a better look when I pull out the bike to to do some work.
  21. Thanks to everyone for the worm welcome. My background in motorcycles is limited. I bought a 2004 R6 new before I even had my endorsement. I realize I need to take it easy and get a feel for it, she is heavy. My background in mechanics is 10 years USAF F-15, and 5 more years F-15 privet contract. As to the info so far. I have checked the tires, Dunlop E3 front (150) Sep 13, back Dec 14, both look good on ware. I will be getting to all the fluids. any recommendations on tips and viscosity? I only ask because I know over time people fined things that work better over what is called for in the manual. For the final drive will I be needing to pull and lube as well, or is there a way to know before pulling? I am looking into the valve clearance check it was on my list. Thanks for everything from all so far.
  22. Hello everyone, My name is James. I just bought my 99 RSV the other day for $2500 with just under 78000 miles from what I think was an old and trust worthy dealer. I was told everything on it was good (No idea what they checked). They said it passed all safety checks (Whatever that comes to). They also installed a new battery before I picked it up. I know I may get crucified for this next part, but here goes. I was not able (Do to weather) to take it on a test ride. The price I hoped was right and the time was right, so I took a chance (Dealer is 5 hr's away as well). It sounds nice when running and I moved it about a 1/2 mile on gravel, so not at speed, but everything seems good so far. Here is what I was hopping for. I would like to see what people think of the deal I got and if they think it was a smart buy? I would also like all the input I can get on what I should be going over on the bike before Spring. I can do almost all my own work (Links to videos and walk troughs Please) I am just short on some tools and lifts, that kind of thing. I am looking to make a list of things I "Need" to do, "Should Get To", and "Want To Do", also some "Must Have Tools". If anyone can help with my list by telling me things to check and how high on my priority list they think it needs to be? I have been looking through the tech pages and keep finding things and go oh, so I know the info is out there, I'm just hoping for a jump start to my knowledge with a wee bit less searching tell I know what to search for. First Pic's Are From The Dealer Next Three Are After We Got Home (Woops) Used This (Never Again) Handlebars folded down, bike tipped, fuel tank took one for the team. link to Pic's if they don't work (First post) http://www.flickr.com/gp/jjrcf/91mAxa
