Well, I don't know - it says the typical visitor drives a Honda and rents cars from Budget. Does that mean visitor then they move on, or does that mean us - as in site hits?

Thanks, everyone for the responses. I've pretty much decided I would go the ZUMO route - now, it's just a "learning" curve - geocaching, mapways, vias, POI's, you know the foreign language one must consider. I'll "read" the instruction manual, but when I get frustrated, I just start pushing buttons - . Actually, on our trip to Ft. Collins this year, DKNight used his 550 to call ahead and book hotel reservations for us - I was impressed. I already have a Roady XM on the bike, so maybe I could lose the Roady connect the antena to the Zumo 550? Yesterday, though for an example, I was with a group in Gulinda for the Wreaths across America ride, and afterwards thought "it would be nice to punch a button" for another alternative "scenic" route back home rather than going back Highway 5. You guys a least gave me a confidence in that I "don't need to be a rocket scientist" to use this - or similar type unit.

I ran into Jerry Zimmerman yesterday at a Wreaths across America ride - and he has these HippoHands on this Venture - loves them. I sent in an e-mail last night to the mfg. to see if they would work on the Flanders Bars - will see what their response is. Couple of things come to my mind - restriction of movement - Jerry didn't seem to have a problem with them - and he had "summer" gloves on while ride in low 30 degree weather. The other thing I'm not real "keen" on - though they are only $65.00 - if they don't fit the bars - or didn't work - not being able to return them.

So, I am thinking about getting a GPS unit. I know a lot of you have the ZUMO 550, others have Tom Tom etc. I just registered on the Zumo 550 forum to start learning about this type of technology, software, software needed, etc. I think I am now more confused than ever - in that it appears you have to do a lot of programming? I'm not really sure where to start in researching for this. I like (I think) the ZUMO - but would be looking for something fairly simple to utilize while on the road. Meaning, if I got to a location, decided to find some interesting back roads, can one just "push a button" and a unit tells you some neat roads? Looking at the ZUMO site, I guess I need to download some software into my computer, and transfer information between the two (computer/GPS unit?). I am not real savvy on computer programs, and/or .extensions. Is there one trip planning software better than another? I've been on rides where the guys have had laptops with them - and made new daily routes off the laptop into the GPS device - I don't have a laptop - hence wanting to "create routes on the fly". Can you do that? Sorry if these might be dumb questions, just looking for an area / forum to start learning this stuff. I am thinking if I am going to spend the money on something like this, I would want to use it to most of it's capacity. I would also not want to buy a "starter" unit, then have to upgrade in 6 months. Any help or suggestions from you "pros" and "gps newbies" out there????? Thanks in advance.:confused24:

Hey, Leonard, those were awesome - thanks for sharing. We did have great weather this year - often time it can be foggy and you miss half the action. The plane go over the water blows me away - gotta go next year.

Gene, who painted that - that is beautiful.. I wear a modular, but won a 1/2 helmet like that - so I'm thinking of getting that 1/2 helmet painted - something eagle related - for show to match my bike.

YOU KNOW YOU DID AND YOU'RE NOT TELLING :rotf:

Condor, Rich, and some of us from NorCal have been talking about getting together next year. At our latest meet and eat - couple of weekends ago - we came up with a loose plan to get together every other month - i.e. Feb. April (maybe Grand Canyon), June (maybe Carson City area), August (maybe a weekend in Morro Bay), October. I've sent out a prelimenary e-mail to the NorCal gang - and DKnight - and am going to probably put up a poll in the next week to see where all everyone might want to go. Nothing scientific, but some rumbling and murmuring has been going on down here. STAY TUNED AS THEY SAY.

Popeye, all good advise here I guess - I don't do that much EBAY transactions. My understanding of EBAY is that if you are looking to buy something now, you pay for it now - and in this case, then pick it up anytime you want (based upon agreement between seller/buyer). Reading this, I wouldn't know the circumstances for the buyer - maybe waiting for his tax refund? I would think if you got a non-refundable deposit, if you chose to hold the bike for him, that you would be OK - as I think if the deal fell through, you would have plenty of buyers out there - that is a gorgeous bike. Regarding if you in possession of the bike, I guess I would suggest Don's idea - maybe copy and paste some threads from this site and send to him?

Hey, here in the Bay Area, that same place would probably go for around $350,000 ! You know, location, location. That is a cute place though I would get claustraphobic in about 10 minutes:confused24:

Hey, Rick, it sounds like the truck might be OK. Surely it doesn't have any excess mileage on it - and possibly most of those miles were freeway miles. Window motors (though costly) are things I might "consider" regular maintenace - I would probably want to know or have checked out the transmission. I have owned in the past several Ford trucks/vans, drove them primarily for work/heavy commute traffic, never had any real problems with them and always got about 150,000 miles out of them. It is a nice looking truck, though.

I have the Baron's 4-2-4 slip on set up on my Tour Deluxe. Mainly because I like the look of them. They can have a good rumble to them - or you can quiet them down via wrapping the baffles. Baron's also now makes the complete header kit if you wanted to go that way - but that doubles the cost. If you wanted to consider a 4 -2 option, BUB's or Kromewerks make good options as well. If you search on here under any of those names, you will find a lot of discussion. Also, if you were around anyone who has them, I might suggest hearing them prior to committing to purchasing any of them. With my set up, we did the trip to Ft. Collins this year for our first Int'l rally, and the wife did complain couple of times - after a few hundred miles - that the pipes were loud as she sits right over them. SO, I bought her Big Ear ear plugs for Christmas

Those look awesome, DON. Thanks for all the hard work and idea you had in putting this together.

AWESOME, DUDE :thumbsup2: Congrats - and enjoy the ride - you're going to be in for a lot of fun (and now we have to listen to ya while we're driving - there went the neighborhood - :rotf:).

I really enjoyed that - thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed the video from an "entertainment" perspective, possibly. BUT, I have serious issues with clips like this - whether they are cars or motorcycles - appearing on such venues television/YouTube, whatever. Look at a car ad that shows a vehicle flipping a 180 perfectly into a parking space, for example. People see any of this type of (in my opinion) ridiculous behavior - and believe they can do it themselves. Here in the Bay Area - and I am sure in other parts of the country - we have our fair share of motorcyclists who ride close to the "idiot" in the video - though they don't have half the "skill" that person does. And we wonder sometimes, why there are so many m/c deaths/accidents, and why sometimes motorcycle riders have a bad rap. I am not sure how one would do this with the same "effect", but I wish scenes like this would at least be "staged" on a closed race course - with more emphasis shown on awareness and safety while operating any type of motor vehicles as public service announcements, ads, etc. Just my two cents - sorry if I vented.
-
WOW - that is all I can say. That was frightening to watch. I'm sure all franchises are like that - but man, that sure makes you wonder.

Thom I think everyone here has a great point. The concept I think is OK, but there are too many other issues with this to make it not appealing. My TD, (and my belief would hold true for the Ventures) for example, is over that 800lb limit. I would be careful on this one.
