  1. Way to go
  2. Hey, riders, I have a friend - Elgato - who just joined here today. He has a bike (dark side ) and wants to get it out here to Nor Cal. "The bike is in San Antonio. Was thinking about I-10W to LA, and then up to here.". Any idea on how he might be able to do this? He would encounter snow in some mountains wouldn't he? Thanks in advance for any help.

    DUI

This is a subject which I don't share often, but feel passionate about. Coming from a relatively short personal "lifestyle" like the x son in law, I agree that a person has to genuinely want to turn their life around. I never thought I had a problem, I thought I had friends, I thought I was having a good time, and "what the heck was a little fun". Though we don't have children, I too went through bank accounts, etc. (about $250,000 to put that into perspective). After my last brush with the law 12 years ago (or longer - can't remember), I could honestly say I skated a 2 year mandatory jail sentence by going to a 30 day live in rehab (along with a bunch of other stuff). For the first 20 days in the rehab center, I was lying and laughing it off. BUT, the last 10 days, I began to understand my situation, began to accept responsibility for my own foolish actions, and honestly acknowledged an addiction to various "things". While in court over that last action, I had made a promise to the judge and D.A. that that was the last time they would see me - and thanked them for a chance. I did have the opportunity after 5 years to go back and thank them - and they had mentioned that I was one - out of the many, many people they deal with on a repeat basis - that had actually done something - but to remember that those struggles can follow me in the future. I feel many people are not as lucky as I am - meaning it is hard to honestly look within one self. Jail time / rehab time does not cure the problem. One has to want to. When I completed various commitments I had set up for myself, the first thing I did was remove myself from my "lifestyle / friends" - and what I learned was that they weren't really "friends" anyway. That meant changing jobs, moving to another city, among other things. After I met my goal to stay clean and sober for 7 years, my "gift" to myself was another motorcycle - I bought my Tour Deluxe deliberately so as to stay away from the Harley (not everyone - please don't take that comment wrong) drinking crowd. One has to want to - and find - what works for them. I like to think positive - in that everyone has a chance - if they want to - to turn their life around. I can "feel" the pain with Gerald and MamaMo - as I had put my parents and loved ones through he** as well. For Gerald/MamaMo and your family, prayers are sent for a better tomorrow - it looks like that has already started.
  5. The weather folks are calling for snow possible Sunday / Monday here - unheard of - though they are saying as low as we are it won't stick - but it's still cold. Time for that extra
  6. Thanks for sharing the pics. That is a crazy looking trike kit - wonder if whoever that was will bring that to San Mateo next weekend - be interesting to check it out.
  7. Wonder what the $560.00 difference gets you? The IMS show is coming to our area next week - hopefully they have one there to check out.
  8. What I find interesting on that picture with the Tour Deluxe - is that there is no front brake rotors (or whatever they are called)?
  9. Wayne, that was crazy - I loved that - thanks for sharing.
  10. Steve, :no-no-no:
  11. Interesting pics - bet that girl has fun in the twisties - . Mike - your sleigh looks AWESOME - way to go
  12. I have asked that same question couple of times as well. Appreciate seeing some of the feedback so far. While I would love to dive in and get the Zumo 550, as everyone suggests that that is THE best unit for the bikes, I'm not so sure on plunking down the money for a "first" unit - and not using it fully. Not to hijack the thread, my other question would be ease in getting a route onto the unit - then being able to change that route while on the road. I am not really computer literate, and having followed these GPS threads for a while, it seems as GPS has another language of its own - and I know myself - I wouldn't take the time to really learn the in's and out's of a unit. Besides the comments Eck pointed out, is there a good unit at a reasonable price that is simple to operate - or does it make sense to just wait and save for a 550? I guess any unit is better than nothing :confused24:
  13. Wow, Brad/Lonna, this makes me numb and sad. I applaud you for thinking ahead - it is such a shame that we live in fear - and worry now. I do believe that things will turn around, and believe they will for you and Lonna sooner versus later. Wishing you the best in selling your bike if that is the decision, and hoping you can get back on a scoot as soon as possible as I know that that brings such joy to you and Lonna. Good luck, buddy.
  14. Hey, Rick - see you are investigating the various safety items needed to make our bikes better, . If you remember my bike from Morro Bay, I have the Baron's 4-2-4 pipes on the bike. Those are slip ons - great sound (for me anyway). Couple of people in my chapter think they are a little loud, and quite honestly, on the way to Longmont last year - riding the long stretch of the highway, Barb thought they got a little loud over the long haul. But, we both use ear protection now - and I have noticed that going through traffic, people hear the bike. I won't change them because I really like the looks of the (4) pipes out the back end.
  15. You all have incredible talent - great looking projects.
  16. I received this e-mail tonight from South Seattle - thought I would share. Dear valued customer: We here at South Seattle Sports Plaza, are facing a dilemma that has us torn between some directions in which we need to move to further provide you with all your motor-sports needs. First question is, do we drop our current discount to between 15 and 20 percent like all the other dealers, giving that extra profit to Google and Yahoo to stay in the top positions of their search pages? Or, do we keep our discount at 27 percent and cut our expenses on search engines and hope our customers keep spreading the word to receive the volume of business we need to support that high of a discount? On Yamaha’s last price update Oct 1st, they not only did a major price increase but they also dropped the dealers’ profit margins on thousands of items. One example is the new Star custom wheel kits. The front wheel for a Road Star, part number 5C7-f54E0-V0-00, retail is 1449.95 and dealer cost is 1087.50. Our price is 1087.46 on our website. This is like many other accessory items that have a 25% or fewer profit margin and we loose money. That is the bad news. In these times things have increasingly slowed and we are in need your business and that of your friends now and in the future. So for the good news, we are going to leave the 25% discount on accessories where it is and has been for the last couple years and increase the parts discount to 30%. We will keep these prices until February 2009 and then change the parts discount to 25% and the accessories discount to 22%. I would also like to add that right now our Star inventory is well stocked and we have a lot of items that Yamaha even has on backorder. When ordering parts, if you see something that says backorder, we still might be able to get it out of Japan or even have it in stock. If you order a backorder item and it will be awhile before available, we will contact you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Thank You, Dan McVeigh yamahasportsplaza.com ysppart.com allyamaha.com onlyyamaha.com
