How Fast Can Ride Comfortably
Lone Eagle replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
On my TD, I went with a shorter Yamaha windshield - it measure up about 15". This past winter - Iput my stock windshield back on to "shield off" some of the mist, whatever. I just put my shorter windshield back on - and can't believe how much wind I am or was getting. I wear a flip up helmut. I am seriously considering going to Clearview's 18" shield with the recurve - that will get it lower than my sight (which was bugging me) but still with the recurve - get that wind off of me. -
Not bike related, but a must see..........

I had a friend of mine go down on his 1300 on Sunday - hit the back end of a car (not paying attention). Fortunately, he is alright with only a broken finger. However, he sent me an e-mail this morning - with the following question - and I didn't know how to answer it - maybe some of you may have some thoughts???? I believe he was going slower than 20MPH - as he was in a small tourist town - with a lot of Sunday traffic - a Mercedes hit the brakes abruptly - he had turned his head - and hit the car - flying over the handlebar. Here was his question? The preliminary is that my bike isn't totaled. I haen't seen it since the accident and didn't have a chance to inspect it then, they had me strapped down as a precaution. However, I understand the forks are bent, etc. The guy at the yard where it was taken told me he thought the freeway bar saved most the side it was laying on. When I was laying on the ground, the front of the bike was pointing away from the impact, all I could see was the tires and undercarriage, it was on it's left side. So, after impact, the bike had to have turned roughly 90 degrees. It will be interesting (sad) to see. The only thing regarding the bike that concernes me at this point is the ultimate integrity of the frame. Do you think it should be a worry? In your travels have you heard of problems in this regard? Any advice?

UMM - thanks, guys - I think?

Ken, my "entie" shield is etched - on the outside. I have a clear shield. After a year - and about 20K miles, no problem. It is a little tougher to clean when you go through a bug storm -
-
Thanks, Condor and Kban. Eric, to answer your question, I have my current shorter windshield etched - to match my tank - I look over that shield so I notice no difference. I just noticed I don't have a good picture of it on the site - will upload next week. Depending on the etching, I would think you would not want (if you have a large shield) to have a dense etch around your line of site - as it could "change" or "reduce" the visibility slightly.

Charles, that is really nice work - good job.

At the first Int'l Rally in Ft. Collins, Dave (think is who it was) had a gorgeous 1st gen with an etched windshield of an eagle. Does anyone have a good picture of that windshield that you could e-mail to me (victortibbs@comcast.net) - thinking about doing something like that. Thanks.

A friend of mine who does the service work on my bike -- swears by Royal Purple. Have been running it for a little over year now. Having said that, I am not mechanically inclined - so when he said it was great stuff - and worked better - I said cool - use it. I have done (3) oil changes - etc with this stuff.

Darren, when I was in So. Cal last year for their STAR BQ, Baron's was there. I have a Tour Deluxe - and he was talking to me about ape hangers for our bikes (Tour Deluxe). I don't think he was intending the "exagerrated" hangers often seen on bikes - but something like others here are talking about. I have spoken with people who have done "reasonable" ape height type hangers - and they say that that riding position is very comfortable. Baron was speaking from an ergonomic viewpoint - and that a reasonable height "ape hanger" would be better on the rider - specially on a long ride. Having said that, he wanted to work with me in developing something - at least for my bike(model) - but living in Nor. Cal - I didn't have time or the means to get my bike down to him for couple of weeks to develop a prototype - bar model. Also, I would think cables could be made up - but I think what the stumbling block is for our bikes - Venture or Tour Deluxe - is the speedometer. For myself, I wish I could just put an inch or so riser on - but am told that that is problematic due again to the speedometer case, etc. Good luck - it should be interesting to see what you might come up with.

Will that part fit on a Tour Deluxe? It states that it is for a Road / Stratoliner - I do like the look of that and it is a little bigger.
-
That looks pretty cool as well - sure provides a lot of room inside for all the goodies you might pick up on a ride - :rotf:. My only question would be would the orange things you have cover the back lights when driving that rig? That could be maybe a ticket waiting to happen?

Was supposed to be sunny - in the mid 60's here yesterday - a cloud came over - with high winds (30 - 60MPH) and dumped some rain and hail!!! BUT, the weekend is shaping up great. Go ride - George - question is - which bike?
-
Sunny, I think that that is a common occurence with that part - happened to mine as well. I would probably concur with what mountainhorsega said. I just got the replacement pieces, scuffed up the area real well, and put on the new piece - has lasted me about a year + and about 25,000 miles.
-
THAT IS CLEAN - AND SWEET LOOKING - GREAT JOB. I may just consider one of those - I have the Venture Rack - with the Harley U piece to seed into my Tour Pak - so I am not sure how I would make it work - but it looks awesome.

HAD ME WORRIED FOR A MINUTE
-
Great news, Cindy. We will still keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers, however - till the ultimate justice gets served.
-
Sherry - congratulations - I am so happy for you - and Bill. Let's see: motorcycle ride to Estes Park - beautiful - Alaskan Cruise - beautiful, meals all the time, dancing the night away (maybe) - . My wife and I did the cruise out of San Fran - and loved the extra two days up and two days back - to just kick back and have more relaxation time. We fortunately hit great weather - got in to see all the sights. Maybe package that with the train ride up there. Either one, you will have a great time.
-
Wanted to bump this back up - our pre-registration deadline for this event is coming up on April 25th!! Get that in and save $5.00 at the "gate". This is shaping up to be an awesome feed - and a great day to meet some of the VentureRiders from around our area and swap lies, etc. Any questions, please shoot me a PM.

Strat, you have an amazing talent for this, and it shows you love what you are doing. Thanks for sharing with us.
