Steve, for a first Gen lover, you too good - great story. -

As President of our local chapter, I agree with - and disagree with - some of the things mentioned. Chapters/associations like this STAR, HOG, GWRRA, CMA, whatever, are not for everyone, In Northern California, we have approximately (16) chapters - most are very active. Ours is extremely active - with two rides and a meeting each month. I have (40) members - and approximately (30) member bikes per ride. We also participate in many of the other chapter / regional activities - thus (if people wanted) a network of couple of hundred friends to ride with on any given weekend. I have (6) Harleys, (2) BMW's, couple of Suzuki's / Honda's/Kawi's in my group. I might agree that "more" could be made available through the International Association - but I and my officer team try and bring the value of belonging to such an association back home for our members. We experience growth - and loss - as any organization may - but at the end of the day - I believe this association is a great place - maybe initially - to meet new friends and riding partners. As others have said - if you are fortunate enough to have couple of chapters within your area, check them out before "joining" a group. As a member of the National Association, you are welcomed to ride with any chapter - you don't have to belong to a chapter. And yes, if you have purchased a 1300 or larger bike, your first year is free - and it does take a while for that info to be processed - especially at this time of the year when the International Rally is going to be taking place in three weeks up in Billings.

As most of you know calling 911 from your cell phone gets routed to the CHP in Vallejo. You may be able to save valuable time by calling the local emergency number in your area. the most current list is (hopefully) attached, and/or you could go to www.getice.com for that information. Looks like a "rainy day" project to store some of those numbers on the cell phone - heehee.

Awesome pics - thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!!

What did you get - a virus? My Outlook got knocked out as well last week before I left on a Rally. Was on the phone two hours with Comcast yesterday - they said it was an Outlook problem - then my home I T guy thought it was a SMTP problem with Comcast. Ended up downloading and now using Mozilla Thunderbird. Will see how that works.

Custom Dynamics has some great lights - and products. They are also great people to work with. Having said that, I just purchased from them the Wizard lights - put (8) of them on my bike. They are nice lights - but let me tell ya, a pain in the neck to install - at least for me and a great friend who is extremely savvy on electrical "stuff". They really aren't "plug and play" - as I thought they would be. But at the end of the day - heehee- they do look nice.

For those of you who might use the SPOT tracking unit. Thought I would pass along this information regarding the Spot Adventures Site (www.spotadventures.com) which is free and fun. I'm sure the members that bought Spot Units will want to take advantage of the site to share their Adventures with comments and pictures, especially with all the Regional and National Rallies coming up. This can be also fun for local chapter rides. Here's an example of how you can use the site that one of our members did for our Chapter's ride last Sunday with his spot unit tracking: http://www.spotadventures.com/trip/view?trip_id=168951

Running lights for front of bike
Lone Eagle replied to Shot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
http://trailtech.net/single_lights.html Check these lights out - put those on the front of my back - took the Yamaha lights that I had on off. These things light up the road - and draw less power!!!! -
I have the J & M 2003DU (dual unit for driver/passenger) handle bar unit with the EdSets unit and have been plugging the EdSets lower cord into the J & M plug that comes from the J & M unit (don’t know if I am saying the right terminology) - have not had any problems for over a month. Last week, while I was installing “other stuff – not CB related” - I wrapped the antenna cable (under the gas tank) with rubber splicing tape to better seal it. On a chapter ride Sunday, I couldn’t hear anyone – though some could hear me when I spoke. Then, sometimes, I could only hear the Venture next to me – albeit with a lot of static, and no one up front (we had 18 bikes) could hear me and I couldn’t hear them.. During the ride, another member with the J & M complete set up in their helmet plugged their unit into my J & M out plug and everything worked great. In hindsite – I didn’t do this – was plug my helmet into their unit and try and trouble shoot it that way. I still hear the music through the EdSet unit, but no CB. I played around with the squelch / intercom – nothing worked though sometimes – if I had the squelch / intercom set real high – I periodically heard a little static. Could I have a bad lower cord from the EdSet unit – or bad connection / mic in my helmet? Maybe a bad antennae? I found it amazing as too how much I have come to depend on the CB – for the groups safety, etc. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated. I have some weekend trips coming up within the next week – and need to solve my problem.

Pricing for Detachable Tour Pak
Lone Eagle replied to naturbar's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Buz - I definitely think you hit a grand slam with this one. The pricing seems very fair to me - and something I think MANY RSTD owners would be and have expressed interest in. Very clean - great job.
