As this year "winds" down, thoughts are abound for a great riding year in 2010 . Looking at all the great rallies coming up, I wanted to get out couple of thoughts for hosting another "state" VentureWest rally - though anyone and everyone from our neighboring states are invited as well. A thought for next year would be to hold this event in the area of Lone Pine - over Memorial Day weekend - most likely a Friday - Sunday event - that way we could all head home and have some time to recuperate before having to back to work. Dates would be May 28 - 30, 2010. This rally is a different event from the "Western Round-up" (i.e. the one held this year in Cody); Condor and I are talking about doing again. That discussion will be posted on a separate thread. All thoughts and ideas will be welcomed - hopefully this location and time frame works for everyone - should be an awesome area to ride around in - and sit around telling "stories" - .

Hey, Condor - the Boss is away - let's go riding!!!! Hope she enjoys the cruise - and that boat does its best to try and miss some of that weather (albeit tough to do).

As an aside, I had / have been talking with Condor about doing a California Rally next year - and having a "rough area of a home town" would make it a lot easier to consider where to have this - though I do have one thought in mind.

Ruffy, I am with you on that one - and I won't kennel / board our dogs. After 12 years being together and taking separate vacations, the wife finally talked me into having someone house/ dog sit while we were gone. We hired a bonded / licensed dog sitter who would do overnights at our house - cost was about $55.00 a day. The mail was brought in, paper picked up (along with other stuff LOL), dogs / fish etc were fed twice a day, the folks we used were awesome. Something you may want to consider if you are / were doing a longer trip like this?

Barb and I did the Inside Passage - but left out of San Francisco about 5 years ago - as that was really convenient for us. We went in late August (if I remember correctly). Extra couple of days up - and back - but well worth it for the additional relaxation time. I would definitely recommend either Princess and/or Norwegian - but class companies. We lucked out - the couple of weeks prior to our cruise the weather was miserable - on our week - the best they had seen in a long time, so we were able to get up and close to the Glaciers. The food, service on Princess was great - and the optional tours they offered were very good - Barb and I took couple of the "smaller" operators - I find they are often more interesting - and go places sometimes the big busses can't get to. The only regret I have is that we doing do the extra couple of days to do the train ride others have spoken about. We wouldn't be able to make it next year as now the I am getting healed up - I need to get a job! But I think you have an awesome idea, Don. If you move forward with this, I will look around and let you know the tours we took - I would go back again just for those trips.

Whew - got nervous there until I saw that the original post was 12/4/07. Ditto on the stores - started seeing Christmas ornaments in stores the end of July - WHAT?

What I have personally seen out here - probably the same everywhere - is that now that cell phone usage is illegal - you watch folks looking DOWN to try and get a number, looking DOWN to dial it, heads bobbing (sometimes) up and Down to talk on the phone to not get caught. Even folks with ear pieces continue to look DOWN to find / dial a number. Texting - in my opinion - should carry a HUGE fine - what are people thinking? What can be THAT important? Nothing, but that is my personal opinion. The other "strange" or dangerous behaviour I see around here is people looking at their GPS in dash units - trying to figure out where to go. I had the exact same thing happen a year ago to the front tire - it was a new right angle stem - rubber base with the chrome angle. The base "cracked". We tried to "seal" it, it didn't work as it blew a second time within 1/4 mile. Have made very sure that the new angle is solid metal.
