  1. Yes, the seat is a corbin. Has he driver's backrest. Put it in the trunk for now. Seat feels like it puts me a bit forward. Might be my imagination. I did browse the list a bit before I left home. Saw a couple posts on battery cables and batteries. Figure new plugs, wire, and caps. Oh, it has progressive springs and a K/N filter. Also came with the saddlebag liners, and toolkit, and original owner's manual. It even got a name tonight. Decided to call her Brown Sugar. Seems to fit. Well, I will check in later. Going to get supper. J. B.
  2. Hi everyone I parted with my cash and bought Yanoosh's 86. He wasn't kidding, it is a nice ride. Needs a few things to bring it into A-1 status. Valve covers need resealed and one valve might need a shim. The tick is so slight I had to lean down on the tank and hear it. I need to Sea Foam it tomorrow and possibly synch the carbs. He was 110% truthful on every detail. I can say I am proud to have met him. Attached are some low reolution pictures. My connection is slow so I will wait until I get home and then pick a spot to publish them. So, off I go in the morning. I am in Manassas Va. right now. Rode it down from Springfield Va. right in the middle of rush hour! Ready to ride now. Gonna stop and pick up new boots tomorrow and a pair of riding gloves. My soles are worn out and when night falls, the gloves will feel good. Oh, might need advice on battery - seems to be a bit slow/weak on the start. J. B.
  3. So, Ok I am showered and dressed and presentable now. Waiting on Yanoosh to give me a call before I decide what to do. Thanks for the support all of you have given. I sent a PM to Gbvil this morning. I am on vacation until next Tuesday, so all is not lost. I may even catch the bus and go sightseeing today a bit. I WILL GET ME A 1ST GEN. VENTURE SOON. This is the 4th one I have looked at. Not being picky but I do want the plastics in one piece!! And they need to remain attached to the bike. Finally, I want all of the gears to work. Time for more coffee and call home. Will check in later. J. B.
  4. Todd - The stuff is so loose that I would be riding a frame and engine back. Oh wait, that's a V-Max!!! I suggested half price. - $1500. But the good deacon seems to think the lord will provide a sucker. Does make me wonder. I hate not being able to take a man at his word on something like this. I am waiting on Yanoosh. I like the seat on his. But I will come home on a plane before I waste money on something I don't like. J. B. sitting in a hotel room watching movies in my skivvies
  5. Well, got to the bike and the man announce are you ready to se her, she's a beauty. Well I guess he sees through beer goggles!!!!! Busted left lower fairing-big chunk out of ot. Left upper broken near outboard speaker bezel screws. Both side covers loose and held in with string. Glad I had discount tickets to here. He kept telling me how much I would love the bike. I was expecting normal chips and dings. And he claims to be a deacon in his church. BUT WAIT, ALL IS NOT LOST. i HAPPENED TO LOOK AT OUR CLASSIFIEDS AND YANOOSH HAS AN 86 FOR SALE 31 MILES FROM THE HOTEL!! I have called his number and left a message. Also sent him an e-mail. So, cross a few fingers and let's see what happens J. B.
  6. Well, I am getting exicted. I am leaving at 6 am out of San Antonio. I will pick up the bike tomorrow night and put a few miles south to get out of town. If I can get the guy in Dunham to answer up I will stop and check out a new bluetooth system. I have talked to the manufacturer in England and they have a great deal of promise. The company is Intaride. I suspect I will hit Marietta Ga. on Tuesday. I can get e-mail on the road. Todd - I will look forward to meeting you at least for a meal and a ride. The offer of a pillow sounds pretty good too. I guess if I understand correctly the spot of choice is a Dairy Queen:rotf:. I do like Rees's peanut butter cup blizzards. J.B. jb@txfire.org
  7. Planning 400-500 per day depending on the butt-o-meter. I will swing south pretty fast. I am thinking of the Memphis route to go visit one of our members. That would also place me in position to go through Ft. Worth for the bike show. As I used to be an Ohio rider, cold doesn't bother me quite the same. Hey Freebird- I come from Medina Ohio. So I can actually say I know Oberlin area. Used to run SR 18 up to Norwalk to go racing. J.B.
  8. Hi all, I have decided to run a basic interstate route and then deviate as various things require investigation. I will be running I95 to I85 then I65 into Atlanta. From there I may go to Memphis then down through Dallas. Or I will go through New Orleans and then Houston. After the first day I should be confident enough of the bike to take side runs. I haven't ridden in about 4 years other than a short hop around town. And since the bike is somewhat unknown I feel a bit of caution is in order. (Downloaded the sidestand bypass directions!!) I will carry the VentureRider list just in case. If you are on the route, give a shout and I will try and add a stop to my ride. I am carrying a new digital camera and I ain't afraid to use it. My cell phone is 210-373-7333. Obviously no bluetooth in the helmet but I can check it at my butt breaks. Looking forward to meeting folks. J.B.
  9. I will be flying in to BWI airport Sunday AM. From there I am getting Amtrak out to Richmond. To fly in to Richmond is 3 times higher than BWI. I will arrive in Richmond about 5-6pm and then find a place to flop. The owner is picking me up at the train station. If needed, we will go get the title signed and notorized Monday AM. After that I will pull out and "Go West Old Man" The rest of the details aren't planned yet. --------------------Might not make a plan. Besides the invitations to meet and eat. Hmmmm, design the trip around the best out of the way spots to stop and eat. J.B.
  10. I believe in Seafoam. Been using it since you could only get it from Evinrude. Most CarQuest and Autozone carry it. I will publish my intended route later this week. I only need 3 days to get home. However, I am scheduling a week. I need to be home in time to teach Tuesday AM on the 12th. Other than that I intend to enjoy the journey. I will print out the VR list in case I need it. I hope to meet a few of y'all on the way home. Taz - got ya locked on the cell phone. BuddyRich - we will go ride the 3 sisters up by Kerrville soon. Thanks to modern electronics I have e-mail on my phone and can tether it to my laptop. So, I can be as connected (or disconnected!!!!) as I want. Thanks to all and hope to see you on the road. J.B.
  11. Hi to all, Well, after looking at tons of pictures and spending hours driving to look at bikes I finally settled on one. I will be flying out from San Antonio Tx. to Richmond Va. to get the new baby. It is a 1987 VR dressed out in cream and gold. 41K miles and ready to roll. It even has the Venture Line floorboards. I leave Nov. the 3rd and hopefully ride out for home on the afternoon of the 4th. Mapquest says 1550 miles. That should shake out the cobwebs and dump the stress. Once home I'm sure the work will begin. Checking all those little quirks that the 1st gens. seem to have. Thanks to all of the posts here I should be ready. I attached the cycletrader picture. Bet I have a few more by the time I get home. Lonestarmedic
  12. Don't worry if you end up with an extra set. I'll gladly buy them. Just looking for a Gen 1 Venture now. I expect to have one in the garage in a couple of weeks. LoneStarMedic
