  1. Hello to all. Just a quick note. I will be starting production again the 1st week of December. I have tried to keep track of all who want cables. I will put up a thread or a classified add and start gathering names after Thanksgiving. We are moving this week and next so I won't pay attention until after that. I don't want to miss anyone so I figure an official thread with a by screen name list will work the best. Thanks so much folks. JB
  2. Good guy to deal with. Has high quality and great service. JB
  3. Now, keep in mind I have a 1986 First Gen. I have a set of Continental Conti-Tours with about 10K on them. They have about 5K left. The inflation limit is 49psi. At that pressure, they ride rough one up. I run 38 front and 40 rear. I have run as low as 35 in the front with no adverse handling. I just find that pressure gives a bit of side roll softness when I get agressive. With that in mind, I have had no complaints. Good siping in the rain, and never felt squirrely on the highway. Don't seem to follow tar snakes or grooves any different than any other tire. Traction in curves has been good. The only thing I noticed when I put them on was a bit heavier steering. Precise and responsive but took a bit more push on the bars. They made the bike react quicker when coming up off of a lean. I suspect a fairly heavy sidewall. I know that there is a different construction down the center for highway. To me they are a great all purpose tire. If I was running heavy on the twisties, I might go with a softer compound. However, I run a lot of sustained highway speeds. Good balance of quality for the price. My Humble Opinions, Your Mileage May Vary. JB
  4. Earl- I am going to need the following items this winter: 2) Lower front S/S lines for my R-1 calipers 1) Rear S/S line for my R-1 caliper. (45 degree on front at cylinder) 1) Set of S/S screws for carb covers 1) Set of diaphragms 2) Front rotors - stock or otherwise. Give me a shout or a PM if any of this hits your list. I was going to purchase new items, but if you want to sell off some of your parts I would just as soon deal with you. JB
  5. Backing off the throttle to regain power sounds like a lean condition. More air than fuel so to speak. If you run it up slow, I bet it will hit redline. If you ever put too light a spring on a set of vaccum secondaries in a 4 barrel, I bet it kinda acts like that. Start basic. Fuel filter, fuel lines, pump operation both pressure and flow. I would even check the tank pick-up. Then hit the plugs, wires and caps. Last, run a good sync and see where you are at. There might be a few pinholes in the rubber, but it sure doesn't sound like any major tears. I would have to look at the carb reakdown to verify the WOT circuit and flow. Might be a carb with a piece of debris in a tube. JB
  6. I have hit a few of these things. A lot of the time you can download legitimate remover software on another computer and put it on a USB stick. Then start the infected compter in safe mode. The old F8 salute before the Microshaft logo. Then you can kill enough of the garbage to be able to go normal at a reboot and finish with the other bug-killers. JB
  7. Annie- That grill is a leftover from the non-entertaining former owner! Buddy - Just need to do an oil change and forget to put a drain plug back in. JB
  8. Gunboat- We did all this just so we could have a place to store a certain fairing!! Woud you like the hammock spot next to the garage? JB
  9. Not saying we are eager to go but is it considered bad form to drive the moving truck to the closing and signing Should have lots of room to store 1st Gen parts. I have 2 commercial pallet racks ready to put up and 3 large cabinets with shelves. Thanks for the offer of help. We might need some assistance setting up shop. I think the move part will be easy. The hard part is usually building benches, shelves and wiring etc. I will need to trench for larger lines. I am getting a 2nd meter put in for the shop and other stuff. I figure 100 amps at 220vac should hold the shop. First, momma wants a nice woodburner in the living room. It will need to be U.L. listed and installed to code with double wall stainless pipe. She wants nice glass doors and a blower system. Yes, when the shop is ready, we plan on hosting many weekend get togethers. Should be able to stack a bunch of Venture folks in. We will put up a porch on the back. Planning about 65ft long and 12ft wide. Thanks for the good wishes J.B.
  10. Well, this time it is actually a good thing. MochaLady and I found a place to hang our helmets. We are heading for Floresville, Texas. Or more precisely about 10 miles north of there 1/2 way from San Antonio. We picked up 5 acres with a 2500 SF home. It is a double wide set on a permanent foundation. We have 4 bedrooms, 3 bahrooms, 2 living rooms, and a study. Momma gets a small greenhouse and I get a garage. So, all the missed rides, meets n eats, and other things are now worth it. I have been working 6-7 days a week all year and Maggie has been working double 16 hr days on the weekends and a day or two in the week. Now the better news, after we move, Maggie will go back to working during the week and not on weekends. I will actually do the same. Might even take some vacation soon. Heck, a friend of ours even gave us an old Honda CB400. Maggie wants me to fix it so she can learn to ride her own scoot. Soon, we will have a bit of a housewarming (after Christmas) and invite our friends over to share some hospitality. We have even named the place FUGAWEE ACRES! It is far enough out of town to stand in the middle of our back field and shout "Where the Fugawee!" We close on the 10th of November - in 2009. JB
  11. That right folks, Russell is fixing to make up a run of these fine things. So come on and order your Hootie Booties for your fork tubes. JB
  12. Sometime next year Bill. (Sorry- couldn't help myself) JB
  13. I did something right! When I pulled the hardware, I bagged it all and saved it. I will get the stuff off to Russell on Monday. That 1986 carcass has helped folks all across the U.S. So, another 1st Gen lives on in spirit. JB Who believes in the value of "junk".
  14. Let me dig them out and make sure they are 100%. Should be good to go as the trunk was complete but cracked when I scarfed the hardware. I will give you a yell. JB
  15. On a normal filament headlight it probably does not matter much at starting. If the rest of the system is in good shape. I can see a delay circuit for an H.I.D. bulb. When you turn on the bike, the bulb would strike and light. Then when the bike was started, the bulb would go out and then have to restrike. This might cause premature failure of the bulb, or a restrike delay until the bulb cooled down. I can see a circuit to turn off the headlight at time when you might need to conserve available amperage. Such as idling or maybe when running heated clothing during the daytime. Personally, I believe the headlight being on during the day is a safety feature. That is why manufacturers changed the circuit. JB
  16. Hey Hooty Bird I got a full set with hardware in a bag on the bench. Top trunk hinges from the old 1986 I dismantled. What do you need? JB
  17. Herb- I am going to open the clutch on the old chassis out back and check the parts. That washer bugs me. I will do surgery tomorrow night. Thought- clutch hose possibly swelling as pressure is applied. That is a reason for mushy brakes. Might eyeball the hose for deterioration. But we did get the lawnmower fixed so all was not a loss. And tightened the cables on the Harley battery. I got it! You were working on the wrong bike! JB
  18. Kicking the door will cause you to veer off. Not a good idea. However, coming down vertically with a gloved hand on a mirror is very satisfying. Heated electric mirrors are expensive. I don't condone violence on a bike - very dangerous. JB
  19. Just to make sure, the resistor goes between the sensor wire and a switched positive source. it does not go to ground. The accessory terminal is switched off when the key is off. The keep alive circuit I believe runs off of the fuse for the radio memory. That fuse is under the radio in the left side on my 1986. Sound like a feedback from a bad ground if you are getting low voltage when off. JB
  20. More like feeble excuse to ride, go eat and drink. I seem to remember Herb helping out a young man in front of a train station one afternoon. As always, things go around. My time will come someday. Besides, I intend to eat Herb out of house and home, make fun of his Harley, and scare his neighbors!! However, can't make fun of his bike. Just almost seems like making fun of my own. JB
  21. Ok- let me see if I can depart San Antonio early Friday afternoon. I get rid of this group of students in the AM. If so, I can make it in before rush hour up there. I sure as heck ain't worried about the money. So, don't insult me - just feed me I need the very smallest of excuses to get out and ride. Trust me, 25 miles a day to and from work just don't cut it. The carbs are gummy and need Sea Foam. The tires need heated up, and the pipes need de-carboned. And I need some road time like you wouldn't believe. All I need is a place next to the dog on the porch. JB
  22. Yep- Need to jump the pins. Might as well solder in a plug for an MP3 while you are there. Don't dispose of the cassette. I gutted mine and made a switch housing and storage box. Went fancy and wired my Garmin throught the 8 pin plug. Got an 8 pin receptacle an made it reversible if I want. JB

  24. Hey Herb, I have next weekend off. The first one in months!!! I could ride up and slap the old girl together if you like. Maggie says I need to get out of the house and ride anyway. She will be working all weekend. JB
  25. I saw a late model 91 or 92 in a black and grey I think people call it a tuxedo bike. I thought it was really classy So. I vote for metallic black/pearl black and a metallic gunmetal grey. JB
